Love Froggy. Heart and Soul player who stuck it up all the nitpickers this year.

Just for a different perspective I totally get nearly everyone here going into raptures , revelling in the afterglow , watching the replay multiple times ,whatever. It's everyone's to enjoy.

For me the GF is often an anti climax. The most enjoyable part has been the journey ,. The times we played crap , the miracle wins , the young players who emerged and the older ones who gave more than you thought they had in them.

As a supporter I don't get any feeling of euphoria or self contentment. I'm just happy for the players and coaches who worked so hard and get to experience those feelings because they had a direct part in it.

The one feeling I won't miss is my disappointment for the guys who have given their all and not quite achieved their personal and team goals. Like 2023. But because of that they would've got a special buzz out of 2024.

The gf actual game isn't why I rewatch. It's because as I watch it I remember all the emotions of myself, the glimpses we've had of player and staff emotions, the sounds of crowd (fellow nutters) over the past 15 years of our membership.

I'm reliving the euphoria of the wins in those year's when the stadium felt empty, where we read every online story in the car on the way home (back when there were multiple sources) where we rewatched the game.

I've wondered before how another gf will feel in the short term, maybe I'll be more meh like you then.

But right now I'm still cycling through 15 years of supporting this team and it's players. Feels bloody good.

Last one - this is lohman and motty helping fagan to stand up after the group photo. Made me laugh. Affectionately.

Wonder how many premiership coaches have had the young guns assist them to stand before.

I keep thinking of the sliding doors moment.

Daniels just keeps his mind and picks the ball up and kicks that goal. Or the free kick is taken and converted (rubbish free in my view).

There is almost no way we win from there

No 44 point comeback. No 25 point comeback the next week and epic GF performance.

Joe still retires and his reputation is a solid forward whose heart was never in it.

Lions have nothing to show from 6 years of contending, we are losing Daniher, and still have a top 6 draw to contend with.

Our finals record with Fagan is still an underwhelming 6-8 instead of the now 9-7.

2024 we have gone backwards after a grand final loss in 2023, with Cameron, Neale, Lester, McCarthy all nearing the end.

Fagan speculation is at fever pitch about him not having the tactical nous of Kingsley / Scott etc. especially after refusing to move Payne (which i still think was an error - it is possible to coach well overall and make a bad error in my humble view)

Rayner starts getting big offers and wonders if he needs to leave to win a flag.

Lohman has a year to run and also gets offers and his head turned.

All that joy that was to come from that missed goal from Daniels - that bloody exhilarating flag.

Obviously it's a results based industry. And we deserve everything we got and showed a lot of resilience.

But it was incredibly close to never being.

I am sure there were plenty of other moments - Port got so close to winning prelims a couple of times. Now they are just seen as perennial finals flops (which to be fair they have become).

If it helps Lachie Henderson was dying to get out of Brisbane. Source: Lachie Henderson
The astonishing thing about the trade is Fevola was gone. Done. He was being fired. He was absolutely wild on Brownlow night. Damaged goods with known off-field issues. So even if we had decided it was worth a risk getting Fevola - how on earth did we stump up for him as if he was a required player at Carlton? They must have been laughing at us.

That's so sad. We've won and you are stuck in the loop of negative thoughts.

There are people who can help you with that.

It is not a dream, we won the Premiership!
It’s all good 😊

1. We won by 5 points. Even if that behind is a goal we're still going to extra time at worst. Also, we hit the front with more than 2 minutes to go. Plenty of time for another score/goal if we were still behind.

2. We can also apply your logic to our loss to the Giants in 2019 (what if Witho actually puts his body on the line?) and the Bulldogs in 2021 (what if Bailey Sniff misses from the boundary?). With wins in either of those two games we might have reached the summit earlier, not still be waiting as in your hypothetical.

I'm a great believer that you make your own luck, and we were certainly due for some.

😎

I've always felt the GWS loss probably cost us the 2020 flag in a roundabout way.

We were so close to getting a free hit at Collingwood in a Prelim (big crowd, big occasion), and even if we'd gone on to lose that, you'd think the heartbreak would have helped ground us for the next time we landed a Prelim (and as it turned out, that was 2020). We were so flat against the Cats, and it really was a missed opportunity, particularly after finally getting over the Tigers in week 1.

In contrast, 2021 was never happening - losing Hipwood & McStay for essentially two finals, we just didn't have the firepower (Rayner was missing too).

We've been the best team across the last 6 seasons, it was almost poetic the way 2024 eventuated. In someways it feels like a bit of a heist. But our long term form suggests we absolutely deserved it.

It makes this one really special but I imagine most years you could go back and find at least something like this, even if not as many.

2003 - looked gone against the Swans, Ash McGrath's rolling goal, huge last quarter. Smashed the Pies in the GF despite being underdogs losing to them a few weeks earlier.

I think the best part still to me about it all is Fagan getting the flag and proving the talking heads wrong and making them look like idiots.

Do you think Geelong should punt Chris Scott so they can chase Fagan?

Michael Marshall has the SEN, 3AW, ABC and K-ROCK (Geelong) radio calls on his Youtube channel

Includes pre match and post match - easy to sync to the replay on the AFL website

Love the 3AW call but props to the K-Rock boys for their unabashed favouritism for their South Barwon boy in Forty!!!!!!!
Lots of fun and satisfaction listening to all these broadcasts. Kane Cornes' love affair with Lachie - and his general comments - is great. Jimmy Bartel is also pretty spot on.

But Malthouse - he really has a visceral dislike of all things Lions. Esp Joe / Cam / Zac .. the usual suspects. Move on Mick ..

Yeah Kane and Gerald Healy picked up VERY early that we were "on" and the Swans were in strife. Even when we were down 13-2.

Which call is Malthouse on?

Not gonna lie, every day I scroll through draft board and for an absentminded moment start thinking how do we need to improve ourselves to take that next.. hang on, we are the Premiers ! :D and I laugh even more knowing Levi is on his way.

"Life's good !!"

Why this flag is so special is the stories and how you can’t even confidently rank them.

Fagan being under the pump, media wanting his scalp. Never seemingly lost the players.Brought us from wooden spooners to premiers.

Berry and his 2023 scars, plays a massive role in getting us there 12 months later.

Ashcroft knee to Norm.

O’s Prelim heroics. Pre/post gf humility.

Joe knowing it’s his last year and kicking the 2 most clutch goals back to back in SF possibly in football history.

Zorko having an AA year at 47 and getting one when I reckon he thought it may have gotten away.

Cannot rank them personally.

And then the side stories are not too bad either.

Fagan’s redemption- from stood down, to oldest runner up, to oldest premiership coach in 24 months.

Club’s Redemption, runner up to premiers

Greatest back to back duo of comebacks in finals history.

Won it from 5th

MCG hoodoo door slams shut.

Zorko becomes the oldest to be first time premiership player

Two time Brownlow medallist gets his premiership.

Darcy Fort gets his chance.

Matthews presents the cup

Stuart Dew

Daniher shuts up the critics, kicks the final goal of the premiership win and sails off into the sunset as a big game great.

What made it special for me is that in my heart I never really thought we could do it right up till the last 2 minutes of the Prelim.

Once we were in against the Swans it was a reasonably stress free week especially when you saw any of our players on the track or interviewed there was just this aura of calmness that had swept over the club .

From 10 minutes in to the first quarter you could see we had their measure and the first half was like dreaming wide awake.

It was just meant to be ,all the sweat and the heartache wiped away.

Those I was happiest for were Fagan, Zorko , Neale , Ah Chee, Berry, McClug , Lester ,Andrews and Daniher. All for separate reasons. Well it may as well be all of them then.

Someone who hasn't gotten much of a mention is Hipwood. He ,like Neale , played the last part of the season under a lot of duress ,he's copped a lot of criticism over the years in the media ,and he stood up for us in trying circumstances when we needed him. So for him that GF was a big win.
