Grand Final on Kayo?

How to watch if overseas?

Depends where, US should be live on Fox.

ABC Asia Pacific shows the GF.

Agreed. I’m that ******* desperate to watch it for obvious reasons that I bought a PS4 today. I have no antenna.

The free to air 7HD digital broadcast is the exact same as what you'll be streaming on the PS4 except about $400 cheaper.

Edit:just realised you probably don't even have the roof antenna so the cable won't help. That is still a bit weird though.

Still remember sitting down to watch the GF on Foxtel, in about 2010 I think, and being staggered that it wasn't on - just the cameras rolling on an empty desk and seats, with a half time countdown. One of the motivations to get fox was to watch AFL without ads, and in HD.
That the GF has only recently switched to HD, on FTA, is ridiculous.

I have every cable known to man. None of them ****ing work. I encounter this situation every time I move house because I either have extraordinary bad luck or landlords in Victoria seem to give zero ****s about tenants having working antennas. Possibly both.

Then there’s the AFL having next to no streaming options in 20 ****ing 21. I’ve heard of professional sports organisations putting their content behind a paywall, but a virtual black hole?

Normally, this wouldn’t cause me as much anxiety because a) my team wouldn’t be in the GF and b) I could just go to a mate’s place to watch it. What a time to be alive.

Is the Grand Final going to be broadcast live into Melbourne on Kayo? I can't seem to find an answer and I don't have terrestrial TV or Foxtel at home. I would rather find out now instead of 10 minutes before the game so I can organise something else.
no it wont even be broadcast live on foxtel. they dont have the rights.

I used to work with Kayo and they will never get the live rights for the Grand Final with the current laws in place. They have the replay as soon as the event is over. We got swamped with customer support requests the last two years and I imagine the new offshore support will again this week, yet they won't know or understand the impact of it.

The current laws deem the Grand Final to be an event that everyone should be able to see which is why it is not on a subscription service like Foxtel/Kayo.

which is ironic because there would be lots of people who no longer have readily available access to standard free tv anymore - I wouldn't even remember the last time I lived in a house that did -

and yeah fair enough make sure that it's not a Fox/Kayo/Subscription exclusive, but I don't understand why they can't simulcast it

I do remember last year when I was trying to find a stream to watch on 7plus that initially I couldn't find one, and it was only through a link that a mate sent that I was able to start watching it - not sure how he found it though

The anti-siphoning laws for the grand final are the same for every AFL match. The difference in the case of the GF is Seven are willing to pay for exclusive rights. Nothing (except good business sense) is stopping them from going halvesies with, or giving/selling exclusive rights to, Foxtel like they do for the rest of the year.

What is also infuriating is that the AFL isn’t very forthcoming in communicating this information. I read afl.com.au daily, yet you have to rely on the abc or random tv website or Twitter or BigFooty for this type of information.

But why does that prevent it being simulcast on kayo/fox just like any other channel 7 game during the year? Makes zero sense.

If kayo/fox simulcast the game including ads what's the problem? I assume it's because they want the ads seen. Surely it's not about ratings otherwise they could easily add the kayo/fox numbers to the 7 broadcast for marketing purposes.

I don't think simulcasting commercials is feasible for a number of reasons. It's not enough that Seven have to make sure the right ads are being played into the right markets at the right time on their own platforms, but on another mob's platforms too? Seems unlikely.

And second, yes it is absolutely about ratings and marketing and the prestige of having exclusive rights to the grand final.

Channel 7 games on Kayo are already a nightmare using their feed, but Channel 7 have exclusive rights to the Grand Final. Same goes for Channel 9 and the NRL Grand Final.

I don't agree with the rights, but it is what it is.

They have it but only through certain platforms I.e. Apple TV, PS4, certain smart TVs etc. It’s mentioned earlier in the thread.

This literally makes no sense. I'm frustrated that I can't watch the GF on Kayo, but I can understand that 7 paid for exclusive rights and that's their business. But the fact that they'll stream the game but only from selected platforms seems utterly bizarre. If I'm watching a Channel 7 feed, complete with ads, what difference does it make whether it's through my TV antenna, my PS4 or via web browser?

I’m still not convinced it will actually be on those platforms. Lasts years wasn’t and neither was this years Brownlow. My experience is that no 7 plus stream has it regardless of platform. I hope I’m wrong.

In the past, 7 plus did not have it but it was streamed on AFL Livepass which is now defunct.

This could be why 7 plus is supposedly showing it this year?

They've already announced it'll be available via those platforms.

The Brownlow wasn’t. I have Apple TV and PlayStation 4 and it didn’t appear via 7+ on either of them.

Had to run out to buy an aerial from McEwans Hardware, grabbed a late edition of The Herald and The Sun separately, then treated myself to **** and Red Skins from the local milk bar. Brashs was closed though.

Wasn’t on fetch or Apple TV either. Pretty sure they said they would be on those devices last year and it never happened.
