Thanks for this update. Ridiculous that in this day and age I will have to crouch over my phone screen to watch the GF.
Its so good that the AFL and Channel 7 don't let this technology fall away.
Just imagine your team won a flag for the first time in 57 years but you missed it because you're in lockdown and your TV aerial can't pick up Channel 7 LMAO. Time to tune into the old 774 3LO

Or is it going to be the usual shitshow of trying to find an illegal stream somehow, for those of who ditched FTA years ago and moved into the 21st century. EDIT: Have answered my own question, but the following info may be useful to someone else. Basically channel seven is actual garbage so...

****ing morons. The sooner we put a stop to this "protection" of the game ONLY to be shown by 7 the better. Fox should be allowed to show it simultaneously. It might actually force 7 to up their game. This is shit.

Anti -siphon rules made sense when every household had an antenna TV and pay TV wasn't exactly an affordable thing for a large part of the country

On top of that - they have just NFI what they are doing. They said it wouldn't be available on Chromecast, but would be on Google TV.
WTF? The latest Chromecast includes Google TV, so which is it?
The answer is .... both. I was getting Border security on my google-tv until about 10 minutes before the game when they realized they had made a mistake and switched it on.
Absolute amateurs.

I think many, like myself, woke up thinking they'd need to find a way around the issue.
The problem was that loading up the 7plus app showed a "Grand Final" channel with daily schedule including the GF at 2PM and was working during the pre-game, warmup etc which gave quite a few of us a false sense of security that there was no problem to solve.
Then just before 2pm they cut the cord on a bunch of eligible devices and went to Border security, leaving people very little time to find an alternative.
They fixed the issue just before the actual GF started on some devices (thankfully including mine), but not all.

Exactly this. Except I had given up on all sensible forms of watching the game by the bounce and ended up watching on the very compromised AFL app.

I totally understand the desire to ensure these big events are available on FTA but why that means pay TV cannot show it simulteaneously is beyond me.
