It's generally comparing movie stars from now with TV stars from an earlier era. With it those who generally considered good looking (duh) stars of now, with a bunch of people playing 'every day man/woman' roles. It's not like they were putting up Carey Grant or Humphrey Bogart at 50 as 'then and now'. I'm in agreement that 'from the shoulders up' 50 today generally looks better than 50 from 40/50/60 years ago, but that was hardly an apples to apples comparison.
Both physically and from the shoulders up, there is no comparison of men and women of today compared to previous era's.

Todays 50's year olds are clearly ahead. There is always going to be outliers, but the general trend holds sway.

With women especially, the 50 year old women today in 2023 clearly ahead and very startling when you make the comparison.

I've got two peers who look like 50 year olds from yesteryear, but the rest don't. It's bizarre, whenever a photo of one of them bobs up, it's like looking at a knitting book from the 1950's.

Everyone else just looks like middle aged dudes same as elsewhere. Lots of shaved heads but still in OK nick. Even the dude who near killed himself with booze still looks pretty good (now).

For the top 10% today >>> years ago. If you're walking down the street though the average 50 year is overweight if not obese in most western countries. Top tier I'd take today's 50 year old woman over yesteryears, but yesteryears 'average' 50 year old woman over 20-50kg overweight 'average' 50 year old woman of today.

A lot of people used to smoke years ago especially movie stars. Smoking ages your skin big time.
Combination of alcohol and smoking is a one two killer blow on your looks as you age.

Way less smoking but the average person is lazier and fatter than ever before. But the small percentage of people that do look after themselves are likely better than ever before.

Yep exactly.

Not a massive fan tbh.

Either zig-zag walkers or slow walkers. Casual racism; often so subtle it's undetectable. Their stories are generally pretty boring. I'm sure some people how interesting grandparents, but just isn't the case for mine.

Always writing letters to the editor, 'this country has gone to the dogs' etc, bought their four-bedroom house for $12 and went to university for free, but happy to criticise young people for taking longer to work their way up.

Complain about violence in movies but their generation went over to Vietnam and severed heads.

'I like caramel, but would never eat salted caramel'

If they hadn't earned the right to a relaxing last 20 years of life I'd be moving them on early.

No one gives old people the time of day anymore 🙁 They're just meant to shut up, go away, not look at you, shuffle off and die. No interest in their thoughts, stories, or general chat. 🙁

....
The old man or woman who approaches the counter of a shop, the attendant says "yeah what do you want", just rude, dismissive, often may not even look the old person in the eyes because they're old (hence unattractive, so not worth their effort).....that kind of thing, where the old person has not even been given the chance to show their personality, or isn't a weirdo trying to engage in time-wasting chat.

... You see them in the corner of your eye and they don't merit your eyes, you want nothing from them, you don't want their eyes or their conversation, you're not interested in getting to know them. People only wanting the company of people because they're attractive or appealing in some way, there's something they can provide you, otherwise they're worthless.

...

Basically, growing old sucks. You are no longer appealing to the opposite sex per se, if you're unmarried or divorced and still looking. You are no longer appealing as a potential new friend or acquaintance either. You have meant to have lived your life already, and now you are outside the radar of people currently living their lives.

... A 50 yo man asks a 25 yo co-worker if he wants to go have a beer with him, nah, that's creepy, or what for? There's nothing in it for the young guy. But another 25 yo asks him, sure let's go.
...
To be fair, this works both ways. As an older person myself I wouldn't socialise with a young person even if you paid me.

Undetectable racism is a new one 😂. If its undetectable, did it even happen?!

Using your table, why not just show 21-35 as "Young", whats this 6 year "still young" rubbish.
Then this relatively young sunset of younger years twaddle. Thats Middle Age period.
Love how middle age runs to 55, then 24 hours after your 55th birthday BANG! Officially Old.

What rubbish

Off to yell at some kids on my lawn now
