Never, we have all these empty seats after all and the cricket has a psychosis and sucks at his job.

That’s the nicest invitation I have ever received..... !!!

After the bar was set at five goals the week before and only kicking two, okey was replaced for a match by haydo, who went and bagged nine big ones! Talk about Murphy's Law! We played the Royals and set the tone early kicking six goals in the first and continued on all day kicking five, four and four in the remaining three quarters, while holding the Royals to eight goals for the day, including no goals in the third quarter. Aside from haydo's bag, jmoo wan picked up 26 disposals, nine hitouts, three tackles and two goals, snozulu collected 25 disposals and six tackles, and Jivlain bagged three goals from the pocket.

Back-to-back weeks at home saw us host the reigning premier Sin City Swamprats who couldn't get enough of telling us that they had not lost a game since June. Despite a three-goal lead at half time, six goals in the third quarter was the difference as both teams scored five goals in the final team and the Swampies ran away six-point winners. For the second week in a row haydo was a dominant force up front, kicking seven goals to back up his haul of nine last week against the Royals. Rodney Dangerfield racked up the disposals with 28 on the day to go with a Mobbs Medal friendly 10 tackles and seven free kicks. DERO collected 31 disposals and ten marks while WaLkEr_ThE_StAr notched up 100 Gumbies FFC games in style with 22 disposals in the middle.

We only brought one player into the team over the offseason but what a player to bring in. I first came across Ned Ryerson on the Hawthorn board during the Big Footy Tour of Qooty. His wit and intellect stood out straight away and I was very thankful that he accepted our offer to join the Gumbies this season. On the field, Ned averaged 19 disposals, four marks, one tackle and 66 DT points per game. He ranked first among Gumbies players for kicks, second for disposals and marks, and third for handballs and DT points. Off the field, Ned was our second most prolific poster, averaging 31 posts per week, but it was the quality of his posting that garnered the attention of our opponents.

Congratulations Ned on a fantastic debut season!

A six goal first quarter wasn't enough to get the job done against the Roys at as we went down by 25 points at home. Jivlain kicked all of his three goals in the first quarter to set up an 18-point lead at quarter time. The Roys reduced the margin to 12 at half time, kicking five goals to our four in the second term before we kicked away again in the third term with five goals to four, led by skipper haydo's two goals for the quarter. The Roys booted five of their eight goals in the first ten minutes of the final term to take the lead before their spearhead, Mooch, drove the nail in the coffin, kicking two of his three fourth-quarter goals late to seal the victory.

We travelled to the Snow Dome to meet the undefeated Demons on their home turf and bolted out of the gates with a five goal first quarter, including three to okeydoke7, to lead by 11 points at quarter time. We held steady in the second quarter with both sides kicking two goals and extended our lead after half time, kicking five goals to two to lead by 30 points heading into the final change. The Demons outscored us in the fourth quarter however the damage had been done and we walked away with our second win of the season to the tune of 23 points.

okeydoke7 kicked five goals, Jivlain was strong in the middle with 26 disposals and seven marks, Vdubs collected ten hitouts, 12 disposals and two goals pinch-hitting in the ruck, while 2121 picked up 20 disposals.

Heritage Round saw us travel to Punt Road oval to take on the Furies (like we seem to do every other season) for an opportunity to build on last week's win and cement a spot in the eight. After a slow start to the game, the Furies put on four late first-quarter goals to lead by 34 points at quarter time. We turned things around in the second quarter with okeydoke7 and Vdubs kicking two goals each as we piled on seven goals for the term and took a two-point lead into half time. The Furies kicked four goals to two in the third quarter to take an 11-point lead into the final change, which we weren't able to overcome as the Furies eventually took an eight-point win and their third win in a row.

DERO (24 disposals, seven marks) and Jivlain (21 disposals, six marks, two goals) were standouts for us and Ned Ryerson (16 disposals, six marks, six tackles) was solid as well. haydo befriended the umpires and was awarded five free kicks to go along with 17 disposals and five tackles and okeydoke7 bagged four goals.

After two losses on the trot our fortune was due to change as we travelled to The Eyrie to meet the East Side Hawks, who were sitting in fifth and coming off three wins in a row. Four goals in the first six minutes made for a promising start and we finished the quarter kicking six goals to three to take a 17-point lead into the first break. The Hawks pegged one back in the second term kicking four goals to our three and we lead by 11 points at half time. Four third-quarter goals by Hawks' spearhead, Harvey Manfrenjensenden, brought us undone as the Hawks kicked six goals to one in the third quarter and added four more in the final term to run out 27-point winners.

Despite the loss, we put up a solid team effort with six players eclipsing 60 Dream Team points but noone able to reach 80. Jivlain lead the way with 21 disposals and three goals, 2121 collected 14 disposals, five marks and three goals, Rodney Dangerfield chipped in with 21 disposals and jmoo wan had 19 disposals, nine hitouts and two goals.

After three weeks on the road we were back at home to host the Baghdad Bombers in what promised to be an interesting week. The first quarter was fairly even as we kicked four goals to the Bombers' three before the Bombers kicked 10.5, including four from LicoriceAllsorts, to lead by 46 points at half time. We fought back in the third with eight goals of our own to close the gap to 18 points heading into the final quarter and continued to chip away at the Bombers' lead in the final term, briefly taking the lead late in the fourth quarter before eventually going down by a goal.

A two-point penalty from a teamsheet error in Round 11 set up the second Uncle Leo Bowl first spoonbowl of the season between us and the Las Vegas Bears at the House of Gumby. The Bears jumped out to a two-goal lead as they kicked five goals to our three in the first quarter. We kicked four goals in seven minutes to halt the Bears' momentum in the second quarter and took a three-point lead into half time. A seven-goal third quarter, including three to roo2macca, broke the game open in the third quarter as we took a 34-point lead into the final change before eventually winning by 26 points.

roo2macca racked up the stats with 29 disposals, 12 hitouts and five goals for the day while DERO collected 32 disposals and eight tackles and BRAB chipped in with 29 disposals and two goals. Gratees backed up an impressive debut with 19 disposals while peterss picked up seven touches in game 350.

The third quarter was an even affair with both teams kicking two goals each and the Furies took an 11-point lead into the final break. We travelled to the Golden Throne to tackle the Royals who were sitting 7th with a 6-7 record with three weeks of the home and away season to play. After a quiet match thread, the game got underway and we started strongly kicking five goals to three in the first term. The Royals outscored us five goals to four in the second quarter to lead by two points at half time before we opened the floodgates in the second half kicking 15 goals to six to run away as 52-point winners.

haydo racked up a massive 37 disposals, nine tackles and two goals, roo2macca added 29 disposals, 18 hitouts, five tackles and four goals, Rodney Dangerfield collected 19 disposals and nine tackles while Jivlain and Morning_Fog booted five goals each.

At the beginning of this season I set a challenge to generate some interest and activity within the club. Nothing onerous - I asked for five posts per week in match threads and ideas to spread a little mischief throughout the league. A number of people stepped up to the plate this season and I initially ran a few names by some people to gather feedback but when I went back over some of what we got up to as a team this season one name jumped out.

Four players posted in every match thread this season which, for a club on the quieter end of the activity scale, is a massive achievement. Of those four, three achieved the five posts per week goal set at the beginning of the season. Of those three, two embraced the element of mischief more than most. Of those two, one of them is me. That leaves one person - Jivlain.

Aside from turning up every week and putting up at least five posts per week, Jivlain quietly went about the task of finding translators that we could use to translate our teamsheets, was one of two posters to continue the translation theme by consistently posting in foreign languages in match threads and even suggested we request a base-i penalty for our binary teamsheet charge, which would have given us bonus points instead of subtracting them. Perhaps most impressive is that Jivlain has posted in every Gumbies match thread since his debut in S26.

Congratulations Jivlain. Your contributions have highlighted that it's not about how many times you post but what you do with your posts, showing up consistently and embracing what team is trying to do. Thank you for your contribution to the Gumbies this season.

International Round saw us travel to Willungton to meet the league-leading Mount Buller Demons, who entered the game with solid form having won three games and drawn one from their previous five matches. The Demons got the jump on us, kicking five goals to two in the first term. We outscored them three goals to two to enter the main break two goals down. Four goals to three in the third quarter saw us close the gap to single digits at the final change. The final term was a tight tussle with the Demons leading up to the 18-minute mark when Gratees kicked his second goal for the day to put us in front by a point. We hung on for the remaining seven minutes to close out the game and win by that solitary point.

haydo picked up 28 disposals, four tackles and a goal and roo2macca had 25 disposals and 12 hitouts in the ruck.

Despite spending a number of weeks on the bottom of the ladder, we entered Round 16 with a mathematical chance of playing finals. The first part was simple - we had to beat the Roys or our season was done. We kicked five goals in each of the first two quarters, led by okeydoke7's five first-half goals, to take a 45-point lead into the main break. Inaccuracy in the third term meant we only stretched the lead by seven points before we kicked another five in the final quarter to run out 69-point winners. okey finished with seven goals for the game while Jivlain picked up 21 disposals and five marks and Ned Ryerson added 20 disposals and four marks.

The harder part of the finals equation required the Warriors and Bears to both lose their matches. The Warriors were beaten by the Swamprats by 19 points to give us a glimmer of hope while the Demons took the Bears to the wire before ultimately going down by two points and ending our season in ninth.

Ladies and gentlemen, I ask you to stand and charge your glasses to toast the Season 28 Catman Medalist

DERO

Tonight's win makes it back-to-back Catman Medals for DERO, the first back-to-back winner since Claypigeon in S14 & S15. DERO played all 16 games on a wing, averaged 20 disposals, five marks, one tackle and 68 DT points while averaging 20 posts per week in match threads. Congratulations DERO on another fantastic season.

That concludes the presentation this evening. Congratulations again to our award winners in S28:

Ninty2Winty Golden Boot - okeydoke7

krisholio Rising Star - Ned Ryerson

StFly Medal
- Jivlain

Catman Medal - DERO

I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions this season in match threads and the team PM, particularly haydo, snozulu, okeydoke7 and Rodney Dangerfield for their input behind the scenes at times throughout the season. To Rodders, okey, Ned Ryerson and Gratees, thank you for choosing the Gumbies this season. I hope you you all enjoyed posting with us as we all enjoyed posting with you.

I don't have any new signings to announce yet but, as always, if you come across someone you think would enjoy the Sweet FA and the Gumbies in particular, let me know and I'll shoot them a message.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year with friends and family. If you're around the boards over summer come and join in State of Origin which kicks off in January before Season 29 bounces down in February. Thank you for following along this evening.
