Gumby has almost no trade value left. Sorry Dons fans.

Possibly... I reckon the signs he showed late in the season, especially against PA showed hat a fit Gumby can produce and that's still pretty good footy. He won't take the best defender every week but would provide sme great support to Pav and Mayne in the Freo forward line...

So I reckon Freo's 2nd rounder will be about right, especially because Freo will have 16 and 21 (approximately, not entirely sure but they have a end of first round comp pick) so they will be happy with 2 good kids from that, and look to use late picks after that imo.

Traded the compo last year.

Before free agency picks look like this
Freo: 16, 37, 56
Essendon: 10, 32, 51

3rd round pick or PSD draft for nothing for mine. If Gumby is smart he'll take any extnsion on one year offered, Essendon won't match so will need to take what they can or he can simply walk anyway, put a price on his head and Essendon won't match it.

He is out of contract - he can get to Freo for nothing. If anything Freo may be generous and give them a 3rd rounder.

but pears to freo could be a goer on the grapevine.... they need that solid back man too... can also play forward.... but like gumby, injury proned, great players if injury free

I can see Freo trying to screw us and trying to get him for nothing. They have form.

Second rounder would be fair. Annoyed he's going to go.

i hope gumby and pears both stay... we need quality midfielders... one brownlow medalist can't do it on his own. stanton i still believe is pretty average... need pace pace pace pace

Well give Essedon pick 37 and Suban/Ibbotson for Gumby and Pears

Yep I'd take that... Suban or Ibbotson in our back half could allow Dempsey and Heppell more midfield time :) I'd be a bit worried about our Key defender stocks if Pears goes though. Once Fletch retires we would have Hooker and Carlisle only if we leave Hurls forward...

Well see, Caddy is 19 years old and has played 24 games, kicking 15 goals as a midfielder.

And Gumbleton is 24 years old and has played 28 games, kicking 33 goals as a key forward.

That clear enough for you?

Lol lets not turn this into Gumby v Caddy s***fight two ver different players. My question was "why is caddy worth so much? From what I can gather from your answer he worth a top 10 pick cause he's kicked 15 goals in his career to date as a midfielder and the fact he is 19? More than half the players in the AFl meet this criteria champ. By no means am I saying Caddy does not have potential but right now that's all he has IMO.

If Essendon trade him to Freo for a second rounder and he stats injury free it would be an immense trade for Frmantle.

If they were to trade him it woukd be some sort of deal to grt Caddy you would think...

Agreed, what GC want for Caddy is a bit ridiculous... He has only played one full year of AFL and wasn't all that impressive. Potential doesn't mean he will be an afl star..

Yeah fair point. In the future you'll probably have Daniher, Crameri and Ryder up forward though so Hurley could afford to stay back. I reckon if Gumby and Pears got over their injuries this trade would favour the Dockers considerably so it is a hard one. I would like it to happen but we'll just have to wait and see.

Since when are Gumby and Pears midfielders? You want them to stay cos you need quality midfielders - nice one.

If the Bombers wanted him they would have signed him already. If a team then offer him a lifeline good on them. What was Courtney Johns worth at the end of his last contract?

Anyone who thinks Gumby would be any part of deal with a first round pick in it has rocks in thier head. North wouldn't want him with a rookie pick. If teams wanted talented guys who can't stay on the park Jesse Smith would still be playing somewhere.

Lol, the no Freo or Essendon supporters didnt last long
With all respect, I doubt whether enough other people care that much. The thread would fizzle out pretty quickly if we had not chimed in.

I think Gumby would be crazy to walk on the basis of receiving a longer contract. The reason being his current value is low. If he locks himself into 2 or more seasons at his present value he would be ripping himself off. If he has any confidence in his body and ability and can be as good as we're told he can be, then he must sign a 1 year deal and use 2013 to increase his value. This will provide Gumby with a hell of an incentive to perform next year, and if all goes to plan, be in a position to negotiate a 2-3 year deal at the end of next year for significantly more money. If he was to sign anything longer now he runs the risk of being severely underpaid for the subsequent seasons of the contract and given his age, this is about the time he should be earning his maximum dollars.

Any player who believes in themself should have this attitude in this situation. I would be very nervous as a Freo (or whoever) supporter if he were to come to my club on the basis of a longer contract. If it were to happen, I couldn't help but think he doesn't have this belief, and is really just looking for security just in case things go pear shaped.

Based on this, I don't think there is a fair trade in this instance. It would purely be a gamble for all involved.

You make a fair point Bengineer, although he has a fair case for not trusting his body. :p

He could also see Daniher burst onto the scene and be behind Hurley, Daniher, Ryder and Crameri for a spot, even if he keeps fit. He should back himself in, but I can't blame him for wanting security.

Shattering if he goes to Freo and finds his feet ...

Courtney Johns was a rookie pick project player, stupid comparison.
