Gumby to Freo

Why wouldn't Essendon just offer a 1 year deal with a second year optioned (either side can exercise it if certain benchmarks are met)? If he does click, they'd get him dirt cheap for year 2.

You mean why doesn't Gumby sign a contract that gives the team all the power as opposed to him considering deals that guarantee's him cash?

Hmmmm...

Don't understand how Freo supporters can keep saying that there is minimal risk in this. Regardless of where he goes, if he breaks down and doesn't play, it's still money that needs to be paid out and one less position on a list. That matters for every club.

I might be wrong but I don't think Freo supporters don't recognise the risk. I think that we are in a position with our list (need a KP forward in the next year or two) where we are more willing to take that risk than the Bombers. If we weren't then either the Bombers would be offering more than a one year contract and Freo would be offering less than a 3 year contract.

I don't think any of our supporters are saying this at all (unless you're talking about his family).

In fact if you go to our board you'll see many are against getting him, particularly after one of our posters (Seppo) posted Gumbleton's (extensive) injury history.

Some have, not sure about on the Freo board but if you flick through this you'll find some. Have been comments saying if the trade goes through and he doesn't succeed it doesn't matter, it's just cap space and can find another KPF. Risk are risks, saying it doesn't matter is crazy talk.

You make a fair point Bengineer, although he has a fair case for not trusting his body. :p

He could also see Daniher burst onto the scene and be behind Hurley, Daniher, Ryder and Crameri for a spot, even if he keeps fit. He should back himself in, but I can't blame him for wanting security.

Shattering if he goes to Freo and finds his feet ...
Hope he stays, so Hurley can go to FB

It's strange I've mentioned it myself maybe there is a offer similar but who knows makes, but really it makes a lot of sense to stack his contract with kpi's

Just because someone is your leading goal kicker doesn't mean they are a key position player.

Ummm this you maybe or not be right on but i'd still like to see ryder go back and have a forward line of gumby hurley and crameri but the coaches mightn't like that as as you pointed out ryder has primarily been playing a a ruck/forward i just think he is a lot more effective as a back man than a forward. i guess we will have to wait and see.

Lewis Jetta was the Swans leading goalkicker in a Premiership year

So you'd be happy to offload a player with injury concerns to Freo. Charmed.

I don't think we'll take him unless he gets through the most stringent medical we are capable of putting him through. If he comes to Freo, it will mean his body is right to the best of our ability to inspect it.

Heard on radio on the 11th that Freo have already done so

Freo prefer Hansen and Gumbleton is likely to be loyal or go to melbourne now. Unsure why melbourne need another KPF they spent pick 1 on Watts, gave a bucket load of cash to M.Clark and have now spent pick 3 on a 17 year old beast in Hogan.

Why do Freo love trading in Essendon players? Even Laycock ended up at the dockers.

As for the first. Really couldn't tell you. Suspect the Harvey/Simon Lloyd/Brad Lloyd (all Freo development/recruitment/coaching department currently or recently) connection might've helped a little there.

Dunno about now though... we picked up Anthony last year from the Pies.

As for Laycock. We definitely didn't pick him up. Dunno who did. Unless that is a clever pun or something that went straight over my head.

Laycock went and played at the Burnie Dockers after Essendon delisted him- so yes, suspect it was a pun!

I would have thought Gumbleton is worth a one year deal no matter where he goes. Way too much risk he will throw out his back and miss a season.

Dont want Hansen to leave North but I would have thought Freo would prefer him. Only 24 and really starting to come good. He also plays out a full season without needing time off for soreness

Gumby actually showed decent signs this year Essendon should try to keep him because you would not wnat him to go over to Freo and start playing good footy

Its because Gumby has more potential and at a bargain price due to being injury prone is worth the risk.

But freo have some trade bargaining power with a few players like silvagni, clarke, roberton potentially available. Why not use is to secure someone with less risk? I can understand Gumbleton wanting more security but geez its a huge risk for freo.
