Gumby to Freo

You most definitely wouldn't be getting Sheridan. Would be akin to giving you a first rounder essentially, look for him to make an impact at some point next year with another pre-season under his belt.

Broughton was third in our B & F last year, he's a bit of a forgotten man because of an injury riddled season. Doubt he would be on the table either, although he currently remains out of contract and stranger things have happened.

Suban and Pitt may be involved, they're both Victorians who sit on the fringe of the current best 22.

Bear in mind that I am happy to add extras - switching draft selections.

Yeah player exchange probly works best but on my side of the fence would want something with Gumby of we were to give away any of those players except Pitt.

Tho we do need a KPF to help out Pav I don't feel our club has a great history of turning around injury riddled players and for this reason I'm not that keen on Gumby despite the possible upside for our club.

Would you be better to trade in Pears - Play McPharlin forward for 2 years - Until you can develop a key tall forward.

That could change the scenario, however I doubt Bond would be to keen on the idea of trading away a first round draft pick at any rate. Ever since he's taken over it's clear that our first rounder is sacrosanct as far as trading goes, can't really see him compromising that for Gumbleton.

God no, McPharlin isn't a forward.

He's a swingman at best, the bloke just got an AA for his defensive abilities. The time for that experiment has long passed, we're in premiership mode as of now and McPharlin is our premier defender.

Would still be keen on getting Pears. Can't see Luke playing past 2014 at this stage and player like Pears would be his logical replacement. Moreover, his time would come earlier at Freo. He's already behind both with Hurley and Carlile at the Bombers and he's older than both.

Heck, who knows, Pears could get McPharlin's gig and we could see Luke playing more of a Scarlett/Glass role. That said, I like our set-up as it is and wouldn't want to sacrifice our rebound for the sake of appeasing a fringe player.

Remember Ross Lyon gave us pick 16 for Lovett...

Yes because Lyon managed the entire football department at the Saints...

Has already publicly endorsed Bond's management model at the Dockers which holds the first round pick as sacred. No doubt, he'll have some input, but at the end of the day he isn't head of recruiting. You're dreaming if you think you'll luck out again.

I get the feeling Essendon will just cave and give him a 2 year deal unless Freo are willing to pay overs.
I think we will offer one year with a second year on performance base, really that's what has to be done given his injury history although in that performance base contract I'd have some juicy extra for more games and goals kicked to try make him stay

Not sure gumby would sign that though as I believe the reason he is leaving is because he is worried about being picked each week.

Agree, won't even be in the country for a lot of the trading period. Will be kept in the loop no doubt, but Bond is the man in charge.

I reckon Gumbleton will end up at Freo. If he can get on the park enough he'll cause some headaches for opposition defenders

As far as what Essendon get in return goes. I'd put Roberton and or Suban in there somewhere with a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Bombers are kidding themselves if thy think they'll get a first rounder.

On a side note how about a trade seeing Pears at Fremantle and Silvagni at Essendon? Would probably take more than just a straight swap but whats the thoughts?

He was pick 2 in the draft so he clearly has some talent. Probabaly the only thing that has kept him on the list. 28 games in 6 seasons is not good. Only been avaliable for about 20% of games. I think he needs a fresh start somewhere else. With all the young talent comming to Essendon ie Daniher essendon should trade a tall.
Pick 37 is about right. Maybe they could shop him around at get a slightly better pick.

I don't know why he needs a fresh start for? No matter where he goes his past is his past its not like essendon have done anything wrong by him or wont give him a chance to play.

With Hurley and Daniher up forward I don't see a place for him at Essendon, at least nothing more than depth.

You are correct.

This is why Gumby was offered a one year contract.
