That is what my post is about. Why would we play there? What is the benefit to our club?

keeping a presence for all the work we've done over the years as well as retaining as many of the current members as possible. with a new team this hopefully translates to increased football interest & growth statewide which we could benefit from. playing record at utas is pretty decent too. we have an apathetic supporter base in relation to attendance in Melbourne. this moreso changes with performance than more games at the G.

Granted, I think the home ground advantage we have had there has been significant. However, I really don't see how growth in the game in Tassie is going benefit us.

As for our supposedly apathetic supporter base, we haven't won in Melbourne since July last year and our 3 games in Melb so far have drawn 68,691; 65,335 and 40,119.

The crowd is the main factor regarding home ground advantage. Witness the Pies not getting multiple frees in the last quarter yesterday. Crowd in Launceston will be ten to one in their favour. It will be like playing a hole game in Geelong v Geelong. Madness.

I know it's a typo, but in that context, it works.

The home ground advantage at Launy is overstated. We usually play the lesser teams there, yet out winning record there (2001 - 2019 anyway) is similar to the MCG, where we play the stronger clubs including other MCG tenants.

Ask the players what they think they believe it is a genuine home ground advantage

We don’t play weaker clubs so much as interstate clubs. Also no guarantee you play stronger teams at the MCG when for many years in the timespan you mention Richmond, Melbourne and Carlton have all mostly been basket cases.

Happy for Tassie to be getting a team. At least we know Sic won’t be tempted.

Would love to see us play a game in rural Vic and perhaps continue a game a year in Tassie (always play Tassie there, not Vic?) as part of our heritage.

If we were at peace with Cyril I’d also suggest we take a run at Darwin once a year. I know that’s problematic right now.

The replacement game concept has worked well - continue it to some extent is warranted.

It's a nice statement, but at the same time, why the **** would we help them? A partnership with the the state, and in particular the Tourism department, has been quite beneficial, but we don't owe a new team anything. Once they join, they're just another team we need to crush.

We’ll attempt to play home games against them in Launceston.

Would be good for us to be able to lock in 2 guaranteed games against them during a period where hopefully we're top 4 and they're bottom 4. Even if it means playing in their state.

Though maybe when it comes down to it we'll be the last club they'll want to play against down there - home or "away".

I would not mind us locking in a rivalry game with them annually.

We already play the ANZAC round in Tasmania- perhaps we can make that the game against the Devils.

As I alluded to earlier, if we're a strong premiership contending team by then are they going to even consider us? There's a good argument that of all the teams in the league we're the ones they'd most want not to come down.

If they wanted to "take back" the Tasmanian members we've got on board then it would make sense to limit our games in their state, and not be seen to get belted by us on their home turf. (Assuming we're good enough to be handing out beltings by then)

Let's be honest - Tasmania is going to have its work cut out funding the Devil's.
There will be SFA left over for us.
Those lucrative $$$ of today will not be there for us.

Play the Devil's twice - once in Launy and once in Hobart and do the other two at The G.

Commercially, I also can't see any reason why the Tas govt and the officeholders of the new club will want us in Tassie.

Our presence in Tas will dilute their brand at a time when they want every mention to be about them. They will also want to convert our members. 10,000 of them.

The devils will want to be the only show in town.

Hard to see the Tassie government sponsoring a team that isn’t the Tassie [insert non-infringement of copyright name] from 2026 onwards. Even if we play a game or two there still - I don’t think the major sponsorship will remain.

Just thinking out loud, if the Tas government stops the Hawks deal in 2028 would the Launceston council/local business stump up $$$ to keep Hawks playing 2 games a year in Launceston?

Those who have not attended games in Launceston the town does come alive with foot traffic, pubs are full before & after games and accommodation is hard to get, These games pump a lot of money into local businesses and will be missed if they cease in 2028.

Gil said he sees no ready why we (and North) could not play home games in Tas.

Reeves said we would look to play one home game @ Launceston v Tas.
I can imagine how many would be attending North games by then especially when competing with the Tassie team.

The Tassie team will do the same thing
