Find it a bit odd questions re ‘what have we gotten out of tassie’. Someone more motivated than me can dig up the figures, but including memberships it’s been worth tens of millions over the journey.

I should have stated originally I don't really mean financially in that aspect.

Crowds were pretty average down there for a fair amount of time and I just would have expected a more loyal and larger fan base after our successful era was more my point.

Was watching the India A vs Aust A the other day on Fox cricket that complex they have at Mackay is brilliant every bit as good as Mars in Ballarat , be interesting to play a preseason up there see how much interest there is .

There’s probably been a drop off in Victorians and others travelling there. Club reckons even current half filled stadium is more sold out than it looks

Was finished last year. Not sure if is as good as Mars. Only 2000 seats.

Playing in North or far North Queensland is not a good idea. The humidity makes for slippery and energy sapping games. Plus it is a long way to travel. One trip to Cairns is as much time in the air as our four Tassie games combined. Pass.

Not exactly Hawthorn related but wonder if ee start cutting our Tassie games aswell

Is wish Hawthirn was included amongst the clubs to play more MCG games. Geez I hope we are lobbying for this.

And with North exiting Hobart after next season, I would like us to split our Tassie games between Launceston and Hobart in 2026/27, especially given the reduced capacity of York Park during redevelopment. And when Tassie come in, if we are to host them over there, surely it would be better to do so at the fancy new stadiums, rather than York Park. Perhaps we could do a North/WA like deal where we host the Devils in Hobart then another club in Launceston. That would certainly be better than multiple games in Cairns.

There is absolutely no justification for Cairns, and if a club like North Melbourne can get 9 games in Melbourne, there really isn’t any grounds for us to only have 7 after the current deal

The deal North have negotiated makes our Tassie sponsorship look pretty rubbish from 2026 onwards......
Making comparisons with North on anything is the last thing you want to do.

I would prefer all games returned to Melbourne.

But what posters need to also understand is that the WA & Qld teams have /are pushing hard for a rotation of Vic teams to play a ‘home’ game in their state to reduce their travel each year.

By North taking up this deal, it eliminates that issue.

Although the deal was for a clean stadium for the Vic clubs when playing in WA & Qld.
Meaning our members would have 1st access to tix & opposing club members/supporters would have to pay.

Good $$ for the club when playing any side except suns

Saw this post on the specific stadium thread. Doesn't look too bad, but doesn't change the humidity factor.

AFL Cairns announces major redevelopment of Cazalys Stadium:

AFL Cairns has unveiled a masterplan for Cazalys Stadium, to future-proof the venue for the next 30 years.

The masterplan features a 20,000 capacity for the far north Queensland stadium, to accommodating major events while retaining a community-friendly feel, plus LED lighting and drainage and accessibility improvements.

A new multi-use indoor centre also forms part of the plan and would complete the venue’s status as a first-rate sporting precinct.

Managed by Project Management and advisory COHA Group in collaboration with Cox Architecture and local firm CA Architects, the self-funded $250,000 masterplan is designed to meet the needs of elite International events and grassroots participation, while setting the stage for Cairns to play a prominent role as a co-host city for the 2032 Olympics.

Craig Lees, General Manager of AFL Cairns, said, “This redevelopment has been a body of work spanning the best part of several years, driven by the expertise of COHA Group, Cox Architecture, CA Architects and Gleeds.”

“Our ambition is to ensure Cazalys Stadium is front of mind for hosting Olympic and Paralympic content in 2032, as part of Cairns’ role as a co-host city.

“This project delivers for the community today while ensuring we’re ready for the opportunities of tomorrow, from elite International events to local sporting pathways.”

It would feature a gym, a swimming pool, and the capability to host professional hockey as well as other sports.

Major events are crucial to a stadium’s earning power and Mr Lees said the current ageing facility was missing out on millions of dollars worth of sporting and entertainment events, which were being won by Townsville and Mackay’s newer facilities – Queensland Country Bank Stadium and Great Barrier Reef Arena.

Once funded, the project would be built incrementally over four stages, providing a 30-year benefit to the city and estimated to be worth about $500m, becoming a destination venue capable of hosting the biggest names in music, entertainment, and sport, bringing significant tourism and economic benefits to the region.

Cazalys Stadium has previously hosted AFL matches and international cricket as well as major concerts including Elton John concert in 2017 in front of a record 20,000 spectators.

So long as it's incredibly fruitful monetarily, we get zero Marvel home games against Victorian sides as a bonus and we play a maximum of 2 games there a year with the AFL ensuring we get scheduled additional away games in Victoria to make it up to members - I would be okay with the Cairns option. The only other caveat would be that games would need to be played June-August when the humidity would be much lower and night time temperatures would be around 18-20 degrees so far less of a disadvantage. If the club is seriously considering it I would hope that we pitch it as a game against Victorian or South Australian sides only so we aren't giving a leg up to the Lions or Suns based on conditions.

0 Marvel home games should be mandatory. It's not our home ground. Every team should choose where their home games are played. And North, Bulldogs, Saints, Bombers and Carlton are Marvel sides. That should be enough they have 5 teams. MCG has 4 and we already sold off 4 games.

I am pragmatic. All the other MCG tenants get home games at Marvel. So long as its against an interstate team I will reluctantly cop it. Any more than that I will be pretty annoyed.

At least the finances for the home team are better now.

But I’m beggered if I know how all the millions spent on the venue recently have improved it much

Best improvement they could make is detonating the place and building a stadium in a location that isn’t a soulless skintag on the CBD designed for the finance sector to occupy.

Yeah that would……work out….really well wouldn’t it?

Geelong play every home game at GMHBA.

Carlton, Essendon, St Kilda, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Collingwood, Richmond, Western Bulldogs, North and Essendon play every home game at the MCG.

Marvel becomes an indoor golfing venue.

They narrowed the walkway to the train station so there is a massive pile up at the end of every event now.

No because Carlton, Essendon, Stkilda, North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs have already chosen Marvel. We left Waverley and chose MCG that is our home ground and we get to chose to play elsewhere if the venue will have us.

Geelong should play every home game at GMHBA, no reason for them not to. Sydney get to play all theirs at SCG so it's only fair. Melbourne, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Richmond are the MCG teams, they should get ALL home games at the MCG unless THEY choose otherwise and the venue will have them. It is unfair that Melbourne teams have to forfiet pretty much ALL home games.

In 2025 we play 1 Home game at the MCG against a side that doesn't play Home games there. 1 genuine home game. If we didn't let Carlton, Essendon play there so often we'd at least get Home game advantage there.

This redevelopment has no funding whatsoever and is close to zero chance of happening.
