Autopsy Hawks vs Black Hole Suns

Ran at about 75% with 4 clangers
Mitch on the other hand.... 63.1% with 8 clangers
Don't look at the stats, watch the game again. Duryea had a shocker.

I'd be inclined to give Stratton a rest next week if Birch returns. Has been sadly out of form all season.

The more the season goes on the more I think Clarko and the coaches need to review the way we enter the forward 50. Thankfully, we have the bye after next round to make a few adjustments.

The tactic of bombing long and relying on Rough, Hale etc to bring the ball to ground for Sizzle, Breust, Poppy etc no longer works when our opposition flood our forward line.

We get the ball into out forward 50 enough times to win all our games by 10 goals plus but our efficiency is rubbish and with how close the competition is, if we don't convert, we lose. $wines game case in point.

Oh, and well done to young However. He looks like he'll make a fine AFL player.

Got a bad feeling about Pops' foot. The way it folded just didn't look right.
Unfortunately agree. I was hoping ankle but it looks to be the foot and we know how serious those foot injuries can be.

Hoping I am totally wrong and am just jumping at shadows. He is such an important cog in our team.

Isaac Smith right now is probably leading our Best & Fairest award. Jordan Lewis has missed three games and could be trailing at this point.

It's hard to see Smith not being in this years All-Australian team. He's the best wingman in the game right now and the stats back that up.

Some people are just carrying on like spoiled brats. I feel lucky that I still thoroughly enjoy watching the club I support win by 50 points. It seems a lot on here don't.
Give that man a coconut, grandma...

I was surprised to find Duryea listed as one of the best players but no mention of Lake, Frawley or Gibson.
Duryea's stats for the game look good but watching the game at the time he seemed below par. None of the small forwards got off the leash so I guess he did his job.

Thought Hartung was very good. Whilst he isn't yet at Smith and Hill's level as a wingman, he is more than just an outside running machine. He can get his own ball when required and he sticks his tackles, latches on like a vice and almost always brings the opponent to ground. Pretty reasonable disposal too.

His defending is fine but some of his decision making and skill execution can be poor at times.

He's still a kid, and it's far too early to judge, but I like the fact that he makes good decisions.
He seems to be able to think his way through pressure situations,

It's all very well to run like the wind, but if you add a good footy brain, you've got a damn promising player.

This is the problem when those who decide who is BOG etc base their decision purely on stats.
You are always going to get a skewed result, because as we all know, stats alone never tell the full story - see Gablett, Judd, Dangerfield, Fyfe etc.

I thought our skills were average, that our forward line still isn't functioning properly and that we aren't as cohesive as last season and yes I'm aware that the conditions were shite but im talking 9 rounds. Davo23 says I'm just talking nonsense. I enjoyed watching hill, smith and hartung together in the side but they are going to have to work on their choreography as they got in the way of each other at one stage yesterday, ball wasn't moving as fast as they were :)
Thought Duryea had a shocker and I didn't see anything that tells me that suckling did enough to have deserved a recall after being dropped for all of 24 hours. Ruff knows he is out of form and the frustration is starting to show which may make things worse before it gets better.
Gunners, rioli and Shiels are having great years - all work incredibly hard and I was relieved to see cyril wearing the red vest yesterday - had my heart in my throat several times

The good news is we got the 4 points.
The bad news is Pop and I've got everything crossed that it's nothing serious.

Not a lot of positives. Our intensity at the game was non existent and our game plan was basically just win through talent.

Roughead is just horribly out of form.

Howe looked promising.

Good to have Hodge back that's for sure.

Wouldn't have beaten a full strength Gold Coast.

I wasn't criticising you particularly, I was making comments on the reactionary postings in the Game thread.

I can't believe posters writing off individual players (and the team) 10 minutes into the First Quarter! At that stage every player sucked and we were going to lose, apparently. I usually avoid that thread for that reason.

The game was played in terrible conditions and we controlled it from start to finish.

The season is a marathon, individual games are fun to watch and analyse, but each game only matters just to get the 4 premiership points, nothing more. It's a matter of accumulating enough points to have a go at the finals.

We didn't control the game early. The entire first quarter was just effort from Gold Coast clashing against raw talent from Hawthorn. The claim from coach and players alike for weeks now is "we want to focus on getting off to a good start and not letting the opposition get the jump on us". Despite that there was no sense of urgency in the first quarter while GC were totally up for it. If they'd been a decent side and perhaps if conditions weren't poor then we'd have been 6 goals down again at quarter time.

As a team there were still plenty of worrying signs in our game. At least goal kicking was pretty good in tough conditions.

Might have been more inspired by a full strength Gold Coast. You can only play who they put on the park.

I am surprised by the amount of discontent among us all. Last year I saw us play a few bloody near perfect games. St's, Freo, GF. We cannot expect the boys to reach that level every week, they would be mentally exhausted come September.
Everyone is correct in identifying we are not playing to last years levels yet, but we may be building slowly to avoid burn out.
I think the flooding back by teams is creating two problems, firstly space is limited but it give backmen cover to scrag all our forwards. Yesterday I recon I saw one of Rough's arms held in or just before a marking contest most of the day. This is also happening to Pop, Breust and Cyril, they are being held, not for long but long enough to stop them getting into position. We need to have a word with the umpires early on and then start being aggressive with these pricks.

We can still turn it to Boss mode so I think with concentration we will eventually be ok.

I hope we continue to win by 10goals against lower teams will also keeping them to a low score. In 2012 when we demolished lower teams we used to much juice and had nothing left for September. Let us keep it real.

It's not discontentment it's just acknowledging we want to win the flag this year.

Also we have the team that can go BOSS mode but it hasn't been apparent this year and to be honest a lot of other teams can now beat us if they bring their best.

All in all we're at an awkward stage, still, where we should be flag threats but still aren't showing it.

Guys we have to put this all into perspective.

I watched the Bombers vs Richmond game at the G. It was terrible, both sides couldn't do anything right.

Poor skill and terrible passing.

So on a positive side IMO we are better than those two!!!

I was unfortunate enough to watch that game
The only highlight was *Essendon losing.

Should not have been the Dreamtime Game, should have been called the "Turnover Game".

Lake was supreme. The use of his body in a contest is something else.
A real pleasure to watch.

Indeed, as always....Reckon the club will need to talk him into one more season for 2016....We're lost without him.

For mine it seemed that Suckling played a lot more forward of the ball than he usually did. Having said that I did manage to fall asleep during a fair chunk of the second half.

Personally I think Suckling should be played as a HFF, however he seems completely bereft of confidence/spirit.
