Welcome Hawthorn appoints Tracey Gaudry as its new CEO

Whether joking or not most of these comments wouldn't have been made in a thread about a male CEO being appointed. Give it a rest

Let's get one thing straight. It's not Hawthorn's way to appoint ANYONE unless they were the best candidate for the job. We don't need any idiotic division over this appointment, we need solidarity, so let's all get behind the new CEO and let her get on with a difficult job.

I know the fact that she's female is irrelevant, but it is a boost for females with the right skills out there. The first female AFL CEO is a huge encouragement for women.

I like the appointment as she has all the right qualifications and credentials. But the fact that she's also from an elite sporting background, and she's originally from Yallourn in country Victoria gives it even more credibility.

Well done, Hawks.

Congratulations to Tracy Gaudry and also to Tim Silvers for his promotion to Chief Operating Officer. I hope they make a great working tandem.

seems like a political appointment eg woman

Well let's take the PC out of this debate and I'll say you're a f*cking idiot for thinking the club made such a crucial executive appointment based on tokenism - and for also implying that any such appointment of a woman couldn't possibly be on merit but because of some PC angle.

You can bet your ****ing life that somehow, she will get blamed for our on-field performance this year and next. It will happen.

The inevitable drop in profits this year will be her doing as well.

Pro cyclist the drug era late 90's/early 2000's ;)

Working for the inept Athletics Australia is more of a minus than a plus
Sorry to intrude - but - To the uninformed, your statement may sound ok - but Gaudry was a female pro. There is very little drug suspicions in that field (outside of a few standouts) simply because there wasn't/isn't enough dough in women's cycling to support systemised doping. And to be a long term female cycling pro means you are tough - a dangerous hard sport in which you make very little money in very tough conditions.

Gaudry is a very impressive figure who has driven change at the UCI (International Cycling body). Athletics Australia has actually gone through a major transformation as well - are you aware of how much we improved in athletics at the last Olympics? She is a good operator. You are lucky to have her.

Because god forbid she just have the right qualifications for the job and that she interviewed better than others. No, let's just presume that the biggest sporting club in Australia who is about to undertake one of the biggest sporting developments in Australia is all about making a political statement so that they look good

**** me stupidity reigns supreme

Mate, far too much logic in that and way too many facts stated to break through the dense fog-like minds of those campaigners who think a woman can only be good at being naked in the middle of a magazine. Appreciate the insight though.

No way! Her first job is to get Clarko to submit a new game plan where every player has to beat Usain Bolt over 200meters, or they don't get a game.:)

I think someone posted earlier in this thread she has 7 years experience as operations manager for an engineering firm going to come in handy as part of the move to Dingley. An excellent Choice ticks all the boxes

can't believe the fact that she's a woman has caused such a stir on this board by an ignorant few.

Not at all unbelievable unfortunately - resoundingly disappointing none the less.

She's up a creek now. The feminist side of her could never allow her to criticise anyone from the sisterhood :)

Spare me the women don't criticise other women nonsense, joke or not. True feminism is about rights, equal rights, equal pay and the opportunity to be treated as equals with respect. Criticism is part of life. For the record I'm not a big fan of Caro, her methods are grating, but some of the attacks on her over the years have been horrible, the more valid ones don't attack her gender but her work, after all she makes that easy at times.

Tracey seems to have has a great range of experience across business & sports that will be a great asset to the club and the club clearly sees her potential. I hope she has a long career with us.

Her resume looks good, sounds like a good appointment from where I sit. Best thing about it is that it wasn't one of the people the media were so sure was going to be appointed ;) I don't give two hoots if she is a man or a woman and I assume the club doesn't either, best person for the job end of story would be the criteria I am sure. We don't bow to irrelevant outside influences.
