I like what Jai says in this video. Pretty much says that the swagger + celebrations is earned from playing the right way which I think at the end of the day is Hok Ball.

Add that extra speed into his game and watch out.
End of the year during finals attended a training session and noticed Newk moved off to the side on his own space out a few cones and just worked on footwork. When he’s talking about speed and explosiveness in his game …….. I reckon he is referring to speed in and out of congestion/pack of players to move the ball on quickly using the best option/exit. Can’t rely on just being a bull …… he’s definitely working hard on footwork/agility and adding other elements to his game.
Like that goal against the Doggies that was inspirational! Like to see more of that

PLAYERS THAT HAVE CAUGHT THE EYE
HAWTHORN
Connor Macdonald - was one of the breakout players at Hawthorn last season and looks to have taken his game to another level. He has dominated as a high half forward but is enjoying stints in the midfield in match simulations, offering a different look to a dynamic midfield that took the AFL by storm in 2024. He doesn’t need a heap of the footy to impact the game.
Lloyd Meek - didn’t start 2024 as the No. 1 ruck option but will enter 2025 as the outstanding choice after a strong campaign. He’s the clear-cut ruck at Hawthorn now, and his running efforts have been impressive for a big man.
Cam McKenzie - missed the finals campaign with a hamstring issue, but has returned to the Hawks’ midfield mix and has impressed. McKenzie’s ball use has been a highlight, connecting with his forwards during match simulation.
Will Day - won’t return to full contact drills until January, but he has been impressive on his modified program. Day missed the end of the Hawks’ season with a shoulder injury, but after post-season surgery looks ready to have a full summer load.
Calsher Dear - burst onto the scene in 2024 and looks to have filled out his frame heading into 2025. He was a consistent performer in his maiden AFL campaign despite key forwards historically struggling in their early years. Dear will be the No. 1 key forward for Hawthorn to start the season.
I reckon he is about to shock the competition, tireless work ethic and his belief is just growing now.
He is everything you would want from a top 3 draft pick and with a few more pre seasons it’s frightening to think where he might end up. 30 disposal and 2 goal average a season wouldn’t be to bad…
Absolutely keeps trying to improve and get better each season, has grown as a leader …… will become one of the best mids in the comp
and built for finals. How early did Sam notice his talent. His eye on the game is a big reason why our list has come together relatively quickly without all the high draft picks some other clubs have had over the years. It reminded me of Newk in this footage a few years back at 1:46 and Nash was in the room …… probably still as a forward under Clarko!

I’ve heard he’s training as a swingman FWD/DEF?
Would definitely be a better way for him into the team. Can’t see him breaking in any other way unless a lot of injuries happen

Yeah I can't see him getting games unless there has been a string of injuries. Mackenzie would have made more sense as a break-out candidate.

I did like your post but to be fair to Serong, he had an outstanding year in the VFL this year and was reasonable in his handful of AFL appearances. (I don't remember them in detail but I thought he was solid and level-headed). Apart from the compelling fact that we are full to the brim and struggling to fit in players, there is some method to tipping him for a breakout year.
