The fact that there is three different perspectives and stories here is almost overwhelming, I can't possibly see how Clarkson, Fagan or this Burt guy walk out of this with their reputation or jobs intact. This is possibly the biggest story in the AFL since Essendons doping saga. I don't really understand why after all these years it is being released during 2022 grand final week by a respected journo. It almost looks like its some sort of an attack on the AFL as a whole as much as its an attack on the Hawthorn staff accused.
If any of this is true, those premierships should now leave a pretty foul taste in the mouth knowing what went on behind the scenes. It really was a win-at-all-costs mentality, and while it brought them 'success' in the form of silverware, a little part of the 'sport' died. When exactly did these few games of football every year become so important?

The AFL will make an example of this Burt nobody but Clarkson and Fagan will walk away with a slap on the wrist. There's nothing surer.

Pretty shocking stuff, about as bad as it gets in terms of racism at a sports club. Disgusting.
I don't see Clarkson or Fagan losing their jobs over it though. Not in this industry where the media will close ranks around their mates so swiftly and comprehensively.

That article was a hard read and I know there’s always two sides to stuff like this but even so, the consistent stories from multiple sources do not paint a pleasant picture at all.
The fact the AFLPA have been involved after the fact is also telling. Feels like their role is damage control. Where were they when it was happening? How does a young indigenous player not have representation when something like this occurs?
No club is immune from the win at all costs mentality of professional sport but this will stain Hawthorn for a long time.

I know it doesn't really matter in the context of these allegations, but its pretty sickening to think about the AFL's manipulation using #freekickhawthorn to help these campaigners - denied us or Sydney a flag in 2014.
Forced removal from family. Forced abortions. Jesus. I'm not sure there's a lot of daylight between this behaviour and the ****ing stolen generation. Absolute shame on anyone and everyone involved. AFL just has to ban all the Hawthorn staff involved or it's a hideous indictment on them too.
You would expect there is a bit of activity at AFL HQ after this dropped. Jackson is not some kind of hack reporter. He will have receipts.

It is also a story of how clubs institutionalise and manage incredibly young people who have no choice as to their immediate employer and managers. The whole draft system needs to be examined to determine what harm it poses to recruits, particularly those who are taken away from their family and social supports. They are put at the mercy of people who do not necessarily have their interests at heart and have no easy way of getting away from it.
