Well, except when he leapt into Big Boy's arms like a toddler jumping up to his daddy. And when BB dropped him like a sack of spuds, of course he was the one who got the free...

I wish McEvoy had taken that opportunity to bust his ribs, a solid shoulder drive when Zeebull jumped up would have atleast knocked the wind out of him.
McEvoy needs a little campaigner addition.

The umpires nearly cost us that game. If they had paid Smith a free for the very late tackle by Forroto after the first goal, they would have set the tone of the night, instead it took them nearly two quarters to realise North were playing outside the rules.

Well done to Brad Scott for deflecting the blame for the loss away from his team. That seems to have worked out really well for them...

Also really glad the fact Macmillan tried to stage for a free kick at the end has been critically discussed... wait... NO IT HASN'T! KILL ALL UMPIRES NORF!

Highlights from game!

Some unbelievable team goals in that lot. 29 seconds to go in the 3rd, we're kicking out from a behind. 20 seconds later we're lining up for goal. Just sweet. Then by sheer contrast, but just as amazing, scrapping the ball around in the teeth of goal with 8 minutes to go in the last. Just willing the ball to goal, by any way possible.
Just about as good as anything from '13-'15.

This! FurryBurrito took three steps after the kick in order to hit Smith. That was the missed call that set the bad tone.

he is a young player with an inflated sense of self ...
...a cocky kid try to replicate something that has been out of the game for 30 years...
p!

OK, so what evidence is there for this?

It seems to be a key plank of your case that Sicily needs to change, but apart from people repeating it as a self-evident truth, what is the basis for this conclusion?

Glad he didn't we don't need suspensions to our rucks.
Sure Mummy would have done it and missed a week or two. We were lucky Cegs only missed * a game we didn't need him for.

Did anyone notice a north player run right across the mark in the opening minutes when Lewis was kicking for goal and missed from 50. He was following his opponent. I saw it at the ground and again on the recording where the image is boxed out in the bottom right corner of the screen (you see 2 players flash past). Couldn't believe the umps and commentators missed it. You could see Lewis point it out but didn't make a big deal of it. I assume that still should be a 50 isn't it? Would have been a certain goal.

You're allowed within the protected zone and across the mark if you're following your opponent. You have to be in very close proximity and make every attempt to clear the area asap.

Watched the replay last night. Geewiz North went the player for most of the game. Cost them a few critical goals and the game.
Hawks toughed it out and secured a wonderful win. Sh*t kicker sniper Firrito is going to cop it from here on when Hawks play them. Bruest on the receiving end of a lot of heat from North.

They should have won by 5 goals. A number of players had poor games or just weren't up for the physicality and pressure North applied.

Bad
- Gunston was unsighted for most of the game. He gets a pass because it's a rarity he ever plays poorly.
- Bruest was really targeted by their backs and was found wanting on a number of occasions.
- Brad Hill should be dropped. If he's not running the lines and providing the elite disposal to team mates we know he's capable of, he provides little value because he really has no defensive side to his game. Maybe an extended run down in the back half to find form. He's been struggling for a long time dating back to last year.
- Ceglar needs to play with more presence. I thought he was OK but he needs to work harder! McEvoy may not be elite but he is a workhorse and provides a contest.

Good
- Burgoyne was Burgoyne. He is our best player and turned things in our favor.
- Cyril stood tall and was able to apply the physical pressure that was sorely missing from many of our players.
- Stratton should be our next captain. He just kept going all night. ('Chris Mew like' in the way he goes about it.)
- O'Brien was outshone by Sicily but he could seriously be as good as Roughy. Liked his game. He is starting to believe in himself. (I also liked Sicily's flare and passion. 5 goals in a game as hotly contested like that is a mighty effort.) If we win the flag I think these two guys will be key and have to continue there upward trajectory. We may have found something!

In addition to Hodge, I'd like to see O'Rourke given a sustained opportunity. We need a contested mid with a mature body. We know what Langford has to offer so why not?

We're not as good as we were last year but we don't need to be. Cats, Swans & Roos are very beatable...

I agree, Sicily has been given the "if you want to play for Hawthorn, leave your ego at the door" treatment and it's showing.

Given what I've read about his temper (but never seen), I was expecting anything yesterday, but he kept calm and concentrated on the ball.

Although I would have loved to have seen him deck that nobody Furroto

And that other smartarse, Taranto.

No need, they decked themselves during and after the game. will lose this week too. culture is on show and its not pretty

While I've never been involved in any armed services, but gee whiz it felt like I was in Afghanistan on Friday night. Snipers everywhere!

Great to win with a lot of young kids in the side in such circumstances. We weren't great, but we got the job done

I don't agree. Early on the umpiring decisions were very biased against us. We would have put a lot of space between us and them otherwise.

Yes all very true. However I thought that North, whilst getting a nice ride by the way of decisions, were taking on the game and executing skills better than us. Our luck came from their complete lack of ability to kick goals. Had they taken their chances it would have been mightily hard to get back in the match

Rubbish.
I expect the same from everyone.
I called doc for being crap for a number of games & I got a bake over that.
I have called out smith on a number of occasions for poor form.
I have called for Lewis to be rested when he was ordinary early.
If you are only finding my concerns about Sicilys defensive efforts concerning them don't read them.
As far as his attributes go & my expectations there are concerned; my point was that he is a young player with an inflated sense of self should probably model his actions on Sam Mitchell rather than Dermott Brereton.
There is always characters in the AFL & I'm sure Sicily will become one of those in time but I would personally like to see the humble worker develop into a charismatic star than a cocky kid try to replicate something that has been out of the game for 30 years...
I have enjoyed watching him play as a forward & I don't have a problem with his marking & kicking, I think it's exceptional!
My view has not been set in stone & I have conceded he has improved slightly with his defensive efforts.
I have no way written this kid off, merely calling him out on his defensive skills & the so called "swagger" that is raved about; I call BS on this because he doesn't have the runs on the board to back it up!

"I don't hold exceptionally unrealistic standards for Sicily, I hold them for all our players"

You have selected your points well...
He doesn't need to change. His development should be in the attitude of Mitch & not Derm.
To select a couple of points from my post is a little bias...

Again, I like him as a forward.
I don't like him in defence.
I think he has improved slightly in defence.
He isn't Derm mk2! He is Sicily 2016.
if he is to be compared to Derm, I hope he doesn't go down the same BS tough guy act.
He was mouthing off to a guy from behind some players. I believe Jack Zebell has the runs on the board as being hard at it & I think it will be entertaining to watch when we play North again.
I don't know what more I can do in conceding that he has progressed & will be good for Hawthon in the future.
I don't piss & moan when TOB gets criticised or when Gus isn't getting a game. I do however voice my opinion freely & if some doesn't like it then they don't have to comment, same as I choose to do.
If taking part in a discussion forum means to agree with the majority then that defeats the whole purpose does it not?
I could stroke the egos & attitudes of everyone & everything & not have my own views but unfortunately I choose to have my own opinion.
To have to justify my opinion seems a bit off; especially when my pov has varied toward a more positive view of Sicily.
Am I now under watch for not agreeing with someone's opinion or am I being asked to justify my point because my collective opinion across the season so far has changed slightly toward the positive for Sicily...
