Hi All, another footy podcaster looking to learn more about Big Footy and hope to share and learn.
I do a podcast on the history of the VFL/AFL. Grand Final History, wherever you get your podcasts from or www.grandfinalhistory.au

Basically taking it one season at a time, looking at what was going on in the world at the time and then getting into how the season unfolds and then onto the finals. Up to 1935 so far and working on 1936.

The main lessons I have learnt from looking at lots of old newspaper reports from 1897 onwards is
1. Holding the ball/holding the man has been a problem since the game started
2. Whatever the decade you will see comments along the lines of "We don't see the long kicking, high marking game of the past." Can point to plenty of comments about how the game was better before the war, those people were talking about he first world war!
3. Also, whatever decade, plenty of comments about the players of today getting paid too much, they are too soft and not as good as they were in the past
4. The League administration has always been focussed on money and not the good of the game or the supporters
5. Clubs were complaining about the Grand Final always being played at the MCG as far back as 1905
6. Gambling can be a problem

looking forward to learning more from people of the forum and if you like footy history, check out the Grand Final History podcast.
