James Hird's legal team will call for Andrew Demetriou to be removed from future AFL Commission deliberations on any charges against the Essendon coach, believing the league boss has a conflict of interest in the case.

Well if you are going to go down, you may as well go down swinging.

But don't for one moment think that Vlad & his cronies at AFL House will do the Bombers any favours going forward.

Bad move by Hird & his team, this individual battle with Demetriou is only going to end in tears and lots of them.

Oh well, pass me the popcorn please ............

Hird has to think its all or nothing to be playing this card. Can't see the conflict myself (Vlad alleged to help Essendon by tipping them off? WTF?) so this looks a bit desperate IMO.

Did Hird call for Kelty or the female judge to also be removed?

Perhaps Ziggy can take ADs spot in the AFL? Just for the Hird sentencing bit

LOL

Demetriou is an Essendon supporter. His kids are Essendon supporters.

He owes his career to Ron Evans.

All his personal KPI's are based around TV and crowds.

Demetriou will be well and truly 'in Essendon's corner'.

Hird must be the most selfish bloke around to be pulling this!!

I hope Hird gets his wish!

Bad, bad move. Going the CEO lacks of desperation. What exactly would that achieve? Not a lot in the overall decision making on penalties.

The club will be paying for this for many years to come. Especially if people have to spill their guts in Court. Wow, just how big is Hird's ego.

Surely the conflict is clear as day. This is Andrew Demetriou we're talking about.

I guess what the lawyers were saying is that Vlad might hold a grudge against Essendon because Hird suggested that Andy have been a naughty boy. I'd say that Andy D is conflicted anyway due to his close relationship to David Evans (family friend and sits on board of Evan's advisory panel alongside Kelty). Maybe the Bombers are more concerned about this rather than the former, which would be water off a ducks back for Andy. Is that an indication that Evans is less than pleased with his former colleagues at Bomberland?

The public perception is the AFL tells the footy world how it feels about clubs via the fixture.

Who can honestly say that Essendon won't get ANZAC day and at least four Friday night games next season? For all the talk of the AFL exacting vengeance for Essendon's audacity to take on city hall, I just can't see it happening when budgets get made and 7 has its two bob about who it wants in the FNF games.

"Andrew is on the public record saying he has received briefings throughout this case. But the body that rules on this case must be independent,'' Jess said.

That stance is backed by US Anti-Doping Agency chief executive Travis Tygart, who has called for the NRL and AFL to hand over their power to sanction players to ASADA, believing there's a conflict of interest if a sporting body is responsible for deciding the punishment of its own players. ''You can't police your own sport, even in the first instance,'' said Tygart, one of the key men responsible for exposing cyclist Lance Armstrong as a cheat.

''Sport organisers and administrators are going to take every inference or piece of evidence in favour to itself, to not embarrass themselves. It calls into question the legitimacy of the decision coming out of sport.''

Tygart described the investigations as the ''tipping moment for Australian sport''. ''Hopefully people realise that Australia is not immune from these same pressures of drug use and organised crime,'' he said.
USADA's CEO telling us in no uncertain terms the cover up is in progress and leaves absolutely no doubt about NRL and AFL players breaking the code.

Won't ASADA be issuing infractions to the players?

And haven't we been told for months how WADA will screw the players if sanctions aren't adequate?

So what's he on about?

Surely a pro essendon bias? So does that mean Hird has concluded he'll be hung out to dry to save the club/players and is going to go down swinging? It's the only conclusion I can reach.

My understanding is ASADA makes recommendations but its up to the AFL/NRL to impose sanctions,
WADA can take it to CAS if they aren't satisfied with the outcome.

Exactly. WADA gives itself this option for a reason, specifically to ensure athletes receive appropriate sanctions.

So again, what exactly is he on about? He's talking about a non-issue.

Do you seriously expect procedural fairness from the AFL? The same mob who fined Melbourne despite finding them not guilty of tanking, and threw in the suspension of an Adelaide assistant coach for good measure? The same mob who allowed the entire 2002 trade period to expire before stripping Carlton of picks 1 and 2 in the National Draft, thoroughly shafting Richmond in the process?

It really doesn't matter if Demetriou is conflicted or not: Hird's legal team is wasting its breath.
