Love your work crow28! Do you know why some of the 80's GFs and 1992 had a yellow 50m arc and all other have red?

Well 1992 was at Waverley, and weren't Hawthorn at Waverley back then?

It was 1991 that was at Waverley with the yellow arc. Not really sure what the story was to be honest, but most grounds seem to have originally had yellow before changing to blue, and it looks like Waverley just took longer than the MCG to make the change.

The AFL story on Instagram has some pictures of them painting the ground so if you need a reference for your portfolio there is a good start.

I don’t use Instagram, but those photos above confirmed my suspicions. Though it looks like the Collingwood logo won’t have the text underneath, so I wonder if the West Coast one will be the same.

Come on Grandpa get with the times

I thought they wouldn't last year for us either, but did so I hope they do.
It's part of the logo so it should be.

Glad to see they haven't put anyone in a random white box for no reason this season.

Never realised until now, but both teams have new logos for this year. I wonder if that's ever happened before?

The topic came up a few days ago in the Random Chat Megathread, I ran through the teams here:
Adelaide - new logo 2010, next GF 2017
Brisbane - new logo 2010, next GF TBC
Carlton - new logo 2015, next GF TBC
Collingwood - new logo 2018, next GF 2018
Essendon - new logo 1995, next GF 2000
Fremantle - new logo 2011, next GF 2013
Geelong - new logo 2008, next GF 2008
Gold Coast - new logo 2011, next GF TBC
GWS - new logo 2012, next GF TBC
Hawthorn - new logo 2008, next GF 2008
Melbourne - new logo 2016, next GF TBC
North Melbourne - new logo 2017, next GF TBC
Port Adelaide - new logo 2001, next GF 2004
Richmond - new logo 2012, next GF 2017
St Kilda - new logo 1995, next GF 2009
Sydney - new logo 1997, next GF 2005
West Coast - new logo 2018, next GF 2018
Western Bulldogs - new logo 2015, next GF 2016

Basing this on only the last logo change and only the teams that have played in a GF since their logo change, the average wait time is 3.82 years. St Kilda and Sydney are the obvious outliers, so using the median would give a better indication. That gives an answer of 1.5 years. So mathematically, yes, a logo change equals a Grand Final appearance relative quickly.

I've probably killed a lot of the conversation here, but it seems I've got a lot of time on my hands. Manufacturer changes may fall into line with logo changes, or they may be different. That's maths for another day

The most recent time both teams had new logos was Geelong and Hawthorn in 2008, I'm not sure if had occurred previously however

Something that may be an interesting picture that you could create in the off season is a picture of the new field markings to be introduced with the new rules for next season. Would be interesting to see if the longer goal square will look as bad as people say it will?

Instagram is just full of people taking photos of their dinners and putting 103857 hashtags on it. Pass.
My dinners look amazing under 50 filters and effects

Club logos on the field are great, but they are too far on the other side for me to care... f Telstra
Since the AFL sold a little bit more of itself to the corporate world, they should paint the logos on the wing under the GF logo.

Yeah true, but Richmond have neither colour and blue is still the “main” Adelaide colour and the majority of the logo is blue, so it still made sense to me for Adelaide to get blue. Anyway...

I’m guessing Richmond got Blue as it is the Pubt Rd end. Same as why we’ve got the Ponsford end this year maybe? Can’t remember what end we were in 2010-11.

Watching the 2015 grand final the other day made realise how awful and out of place the Telstra and Toyota logos look by comparison. Disgusting the AFL ever agreed to it.

Last year was the same. Telstra must have payed them some big $$

Of all the things the AFL have done, the Telstra and goal square Toyota sell out was the one that has annoyed me the most

2008 Geelong v Hawthorn

We need to make a new logo for 2028

Can’t remember what end we were in 2010-11.

In both (or all three) Grand Finals, Collingwood fell victim to having both teams they were competing against wearing a colour that is in the 50. In 2010, St Kilda had the red arc, and in 2011 Geelong had the blue arc, leaving Collingwood with the opposite by default
