Houlihan hit by injury
The 160-gamer will see specialists to determine whether he has surgery on the injured hip or undergoes a rehabilitation program. This will then determine the length of time he will be sidelined.

If Houla's injury requires surgery and he's out for eight weeks, do you think the club will elevate a rookie?

I've changed my mind and would prefer Joseph ahead of Ellard just to add another player with legspeed and the ability to win his own ball to the side. I liked the sound of Joseph kicking a 50 metre goal in last week's VFL game as called by the commentators and would love to see him get a go. Armfield could possibly fill a similar role in the side as a quick tagger or mid, but I'd rather see Joseph given a go as rover or in the forward pocket. Joseph could be a little terrier along the lines of Richmond's Foley and would add another dimension to our team.

Ellard is a bit light on for size and not as quick or as agile as AJ.

Your thoughts?

If Houlihan opts for surgery, then I think we will assess the issue then. Even so, I think at the moment we already have enough depth in our senior list to fill Houlihan's role, and if we were to promote a rookie, then we may be demoting them by the time Houlihan comes into the side.

The club will sit down and go over this thuroughly if the speciallst gives some negative feedback.

why the rush into elevating a rookie? there is no need for any of the rookies on our list, so why elevate them.
jackson, bentick, browne, armfield, and sadly russell, are ahead of ellard and joseph anyway... so no need to elevate anyone.

Doubt they'd play even if they were elevated so no reason to do so yet. Wait and see what the specialist says and assess it from there.

That was then, this is now.

If Joseph runs into some form, I'd rather see a quick in and under midfielder get a game than a mid who isn't fast or highly skilled. I don't rate Jackson who would now be behind the quicker Grigg and is a different sort of player to Joseph.

Armfield is more a winger/HBF and Browne isn't fast.

We need more legspeed in the middle and in our forwardline.

I heard Joseph can't kick to save himself?

we havent elevated a rookie for walker so why would we for houlihan

Exactly right.

Pretty sure we could have a total of 4 rookies elevated to the senior list right now if we chose to (assuming Houlihan has a LTI).

Elevated rookie #1 - Jamison
Elevated rookie #2 -
Replacement for Walker -
Replacement for Houlihan -

None of the rookies would be close to a senior match so there's not much point elevating them.

Joseph can kick, it's just that he badly butchers it from time to time. From what I have seen of him, he doesn't steady himself properly when he is about to kick, and this can therefore lead to some problems.

To me, it's line ball between Ellard and Joseph.

Thanks HBF :)

How good did we look without Houlihan? Grigg replaced him damn well.

Can't Run. Can't Tackle.

I think he's played his last game if not for a mountain of injuries at season's end or a good bye match...

OK i have never and will never type lol (oops), but that made me genuinely laugh out loud to myself.

That's gotta hurt. Yeah, I'm not big on all that "lol" stuff either, unless someones chortling at one of my cheesy jokes of course.

I can't wait to see BlueWorlds response to this.

Entitled to your opinion but would think Houlihan is miles ahead of Grigg at this stage. Amongst other things Grigg needs to find a right foot and much more composure.

For anyone interested:

He has two spurs on his hip which cause bone to rub on bone. He’s had this problem now for two years and has required regular injections to enable him to play in all but one of every possible game over that time. He will be having arthroscopic surgery next week and they will shave off the spurs and clean his hip out. He’s been told that he will be out for 8-10 weeks but will work as hard as he can to get back earlier.

Those who question his commitment, determination, dedication or courage to play through pain and injury despite needing injections might want to note that.
