How was Skippers rucking?

Wanting to check on him since I was a fan of him at the Bulldogs and the reserves teams. How was his ruck work on Saturday?

Annoying. I don't think anyone expects Skipper to win a tap, his role is to annoy the opposition and hope for a break even result so our mids are not too disadvantaged. On that basis he was OK.

I am much more upbeat about Skipper. He did very well on Saturday, competing and timing his jump and tap outs. His timing is much better that Taylor's - he's not left flat footed under the ball. I like what I saw - I hope he plays all the games this year, and let Taylor and Renouf compete for the other spot.

Stats show he won 10 on saturday night (16 to taylor).

i thought he looked much better then taylor. taylor jumps early..

So if skipper looked better than tails and you have nominated skipper for no.2 rucking job who are you nominating for no. 1

Taylor jumps early to negate the jump of the opposition ruckman since he doesn't have a great leap in the first place.

I can tell you that Taylor destroys Skipper at training.

I thought our rucks we A+ on the weekend.

Now, if they could just get a kick around the ground ;)

Did you miss this off your post

With all due respect to Susie he has got a long way to go before he is the no. 1 ruck at the club. Personally I thought both Tails and Skipper did okay and the improvement from tails based on last season is already evident.

OK I will bite.

Do the stats record how many contests in which Skipper participated?
What was the break down of centre bounces, other stoppages, boundary throw ins?

More importantly how many contests was Skipper in that did not produce a clear winner?

I wonder what stats we keep.

I was impressed with Skipper. Showed a lot more than I thought he would. Normally takes a while to settle in to a new team and, correct me if I'm wrong, he doesn't have much experience at AFL level. It's not easy to adjust to the pace so quickly. Good work, keep it coming Skipper.

What stats do we keep (relevant to rucks): my titles, but pretty close

Time On Ground
Total Contests
Contests Missed

Direct Taps
Taps to Advantage
Hitouts to Disadvantage
Hitout Clangers

Opposition Direct Taps
Opposition Taps to Advantage
Opposition Taps

Ruck Infringements For
Ruck Infringements Against

(raw stats, and %, etc)

...then all of the midfield stats (1st possession, clearance, 1st uncontested disposal, score involvement, play creations, etc).

On game day there would only be a focus on 4 or so of those, but all are discussed over time, and differing opponents/matchups, along with video footage to show techniques.

Dont be surprised if big Max comes back in the second half of the season, he showed after only one game last year that he is superior to any other hawks ruckman, apparantely he is well ahead of schedule in his rehab, the hawks may yet have a dominant ruckmen this year.

I think we need to have a look at the opposition and for what the game was. I was at the game and Richmond were ordinary at best and I wouldnt say they have the best ruck combo. I thought our boys did a really good job but I am not going to jump up and down over a NAP cup match.

Having said that Skipper showed more than I thought he would and I think Taylor showed a lot more then last year.

Good luck to them both!

skipper played a good game. he wasnt supposed to come out and set the world on fire in the ruck in the first game. still think tails and renouf are first choice combo until Max comes back.

but yes, as some have mentioned, when big Max comes back, he will become number 1 again and i just hope Max's knees can hold up so he can get his career going.
