Hindsight heroes in full effect.

Sutton and co can only go off the data they have at the time of decision.

Jumping to conclusions 'at the time' by extending lockdowns using made up stories about aggressive variants and community transmission passing strangers in the street.. Is one thing.

Refusing to 'just as quickly' own up to mistakes and accept responsibility REPEATEDLY and make appropriate changes to restrictions is another.

They've lost all confidence from Victorians.. Apart from the brainless #istandwithdan paritsan crew.

Are there any of those standwithdan still there?

I'm not saying they shouldn't adjust settings. Economy is red herring, the feds have unlimited supply of money for their mates with no strings attached.

The economy should be a red-herring but it isn't. Trying to get that pig Frydenberg to support the unemployed through lockdown is like pulling teeth. As you say, they have plenty for their mates but none for those who need it most.

That is why the economy is not a red-herring.

Look, given the opposition I will likely vote for Andrews (or Labor) at the next state election.

But that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be held to account. It's a democratic responsibility to make those we elect accountable. I'm a Labor person. It is in my blood with my grandfather being a player within the unions. The only time I haven't voted Labor was at the 2004 Federal Election when Mark Latham was leader. I voted informal on that occasion as I could not stomach either option. I am pretty partisan based on my ideology but that doesn't mean I am 100% supportive of all decisions that they make. Nor do I believe that every Labor politician is working in the public interest.

Right now, in Victoria I am not comfortable with the messaging and I am not comfortable with what I see as a lack of objectivity in the decision making. I think changes need to be made in key spots, starting with Professor Sutton, who is not a bad person but is no longer capable of performing his role in my opinion.

If people truly believe that immigrants are lying to contact tracers, then isn't it better that there is a lockdown?

Whats the alternative? They want to open up while immigrants are lying to contact tracers? Then they can blame them if/when it runs rampant.

Doesn't really make much sense to be honest. White Australians certainly don't own the truth.

You say some odd things dont you?
Can guarantee if a muslim or indigenous epidemiologist said this lockdown was unneeded you would be at the front of the protest to spring st.

What exactly were they supposed to learn?

That everyone is lying and every positive is probably a false negative. That would be so easy if they weren't contact tracing 10,000 people.

So you were expecting no lockdowns ever again? Every state in the country (I think) has had a lockdown this year (Tassie doesn't count).

Learn not to rush off and assume each new case is a brand new strain which can infect people who jist look at eachother across a room.

Maybe check world statistics first and base the response on the actual science.

You know... scientists doing sciency things. Not Chicken Little things and ****ing up millions of lives again.

NSW hasnt had a lockdown this year. We had to wear face masks on trains for 2 months and couldnt have more than 20 people at our houses.

And couldnt dance standing up. Seated was okay though.

Unfortunately in this god-awful 2 party system, this is the best an alternative state Govt might look like:

God people grab onto red-herrings and every little bit of the press conference they don't like. The terminology for 'fleeting contacts' is just the latest.

I don't see an ulterior motive, so I still have trust in the DHHS and COVID response teams. I never trust politicians. But in this case, there's nothing in it for them to be extending lockdowns (except avoiding longer lockdowns).

The alternative would be populist politicians ignoring health advice for short-term political purposes (a-la Brazil, USA, UK). In those cases you certainly can't trust those pollies, they're acting out of pure self-interest.

I'll take ours over theirs for the whole 2-week lockdown.

And you expect people to take you seriously?

The alternative is to give people the option of working or not. Not shut down again because less than 1% of the population dies.
If your high risk, or you live with someone high risk, stay at home, get job keeper until your vaccinated. Again, have restrictions, have a competent QR system, wear masks indoors, indoor caps.
But if your under 50 with no underlying medical issues, then you should be able to work and earn a living, getting covid at your own risk

I'm really not sure what's so hard to understand about this transmission concern which is keeping things from being opened right now.

All of you who are complaining about not opening up soon enough have to promise right now, that if they stop this lockdown earlier that you won't be crying out about "repeated lockdowns" if it flares up again.

Ahh, yes, the US/Brazil approach. Didn't that work well. Let's just circulate it amongst the under 50's and hope nobody over 50 wants to leave their house for the next 6 months.

Yep. At least it keeps the economy going and people's heads above water. No one's putting a hold on mortgages or rents. Not for households and not for businesses. And what 6 months? You can get vaccinated now if your over 40

I do get your point.

You do understand though that Professor Sutton's rhetoric which is designed to instill fear is absolutely baseless. The position he has taken that this Kappa strain is more potent and is a "beast" is scientifically baseless. This is not my personal opinion. This is the position of the World Health Organisation and pretty much every single epidemiologist that has spoken about this particular strain.

When you decide to lock 6 million people in their homes you had better do it based on facts.

Anything that Professor Sutton now says must be met with skepticism.

If it wasn't already after the email saga at the enquiry.

So if the other variant is out there doesn’t that mean we are back to square one and have an unknown patient zero for that leak?

Here we go again.

There are people much smarter than I that are asking relevant and probing questions about the assumptions made over the last week.
