But just because you're not pre-approved doesn't mean you can't be approved.

The hiring of these services was a big problem, but not sure anywhere else did it any better or there was a clear-cut option which was overlooked.

My personal contacts in the security industry tell me it was the usual suspects trying to round up accredited staff who wanted the work.

I guess it was just under a different head contract, but would have led to the same people being employed doing the job. So not sure that if they hired an approved contractor that the result would have been any different.

this matches my info

they contacted all the usual suspects (think the names who operate offshore detention centres and our outsourced prison security), and most rejected it out of hand. what i heard from multiple providers is that they just didnt have the manpower. the lockdowns in the prison system chewed up most of their experienced worker base

Have heard quite a few stories of companies fronting up with famous indigenous people to meetings only to have them sit silently while the white guy does all the talking. Only heard it 2nd/3rd hand though. So not sure if it's one or two stories doing the rounds or permeating through the industry.

we lost out to one mob in a tender 2-3 times now. they get a consultancy in as a subby, and that allows them to hit the obligation.

from what ive heard this mob were filling in a similar role previously, but agreed to step up for this one

Andrews is a political figure and historically it is ok to poke fun at political figures in Australia. Sure there are limits but I don’t think the previous comment crossed the line

No sense of humour, but maybe I was wrong about that poster being one if Dans social media team, maybe it’s actually Cath, might explain her getting so upset at a little humour about Dans stupid mask rules.

Just when I think you couldn't possibly post anything denser you surpass yourself. Comparing people on slapstick shows with someone in intensive care possibly facing major surgery is mind-numbingly asinine. A primary school kid would understand the stupidity of that. Not only are you a pinhead but one who is unhinged. Get help.

Lol, well then you’d really hate my joke in the NBL thread about John Cain Arena 😂😂

knife - thanks for the info.

In the end does that make up for the shitty track and trace or the sluggish lockdown? 100k dead says no.
Definitely not, the UK made massive mistakes early on and had a hesitant and tentative response, which has lead to a far worse outcome.
But to their credit, their vaccine strategy for the UK and for the COVAX initiative, considering the position they were in, shows what can happen when they act decisively.

One the other side of the coin, the undermining of the AstraZeneca vaccine by Macron and Merkel is appalling and there is no excuse for such poor leadership at this stage of the pandemic.

I would not be surprised. It's all part of the indigenous industry money go round.

I was at a corporate function where they had a "welcome to country" on the agenda. No one questioned that it's a fairly recently invented thing. The Aboriginal elder failed to show and sent his 25 yo niece. She cracked a few lame jokes aimed at the industry at the event then mumbled some blah blah about traditional custodians etc. $840 for 15 minutes. Nice little earner.

How much did the other people earn?

What's wrong with Indigenous people getting on the capitalist gravy train?

Wokeness.
OK. That's not a real thing.

You start talking about specifics then drop into "blah I dunno summink".

It makes it sound like you just want to broadcast your grievance, but not engage on it.

Why did the organisers pay?

Wokeness.

More specifically, they think that engaging a "traditional elder" to say a few words allows them to feel good about themselves before their free bar and hors d'oeuvres. The traditional elder didn't turn up but let's not let that get in the way of the gravy train.

Meanwhile, there are parts of Australia that have third world conditions and that these woke tossers continue to ignore.

Sadly its the Corporate & Government tossers with the money who matter when it come to ignoring/addressing any 'third world conditions' in Australia.

They're the ones who can actually do something about it.

Apparently in your unsophisticated inhumane world poking fun at someone in intensive care, in pain, and facing the prospect of major surgery is fair game cos he's a public figure. Find a moral compass.

Mate find a sense of humour. Or block me. Whatever

twaddle. even o'brien can see something as serious as this is above politics.
Sure, appropriate for politicians to not poke fun but we are the great unwashed public. We are not to be held to the (low) standards of politicians

Concern is largely bolted on most organizations. its well known the 'diversity' departments are anything but themselves

And let's not pretend that it would be anything other than open season should the same thing have happened to certain other political figures in this country.

But regardless, back issues are no joke, no pun intended.

We already have seen quips about Lisa Reynolds and her medical leave where she is trying to find her heart.
Or porter playing the mental health “card”
These quips I find amusing and appropriate
And I think jokes about the mask impairing vision leading to a fall to be in the same vein.
