I like Hugh but I'm not sure we need him unless Cunners and Jed aren't over their injuries.

Just embarrassing from GC. I assume he will come on minimum wages and GC will pick up the difference?

Greenwood is more well-rounded and classy than Anderson.

Solid acquisition at worst for a couple of years, and really fast tracks the overall performance of the midfield.

Absolutely enviable midfield mix now.

Why would you assume that? He was delisted so you have a brand new agreement with him likely more than he was on at GC hence him accepting.
That is what happens if you poach someone going back to the rookie list. I guessed it would be the same here. Not fussed though, I'd be happy for us to do GC a favour and pay his full contract.

While it’s poor management from Gold Coast it’s only Hugh Greenwood. I know teams need big bodies ect but he is a list clogger albeit a more decent list clogger.

I'll spew if Gold Coast get a decent priority pick out of this.

As a Hawthorn fan in regards to our history with free agency compensation i'm fully expecting the Suns to be handed a second top 5 selection before we've had our first.

I think they were planning to take him in the draft which means he was going back on the senior liat
Definitely. But despite being delisted he still had an ongoing contract that GC would have to honour whether or not he was redrafted by them. North have probably signed him a new longer contract which supersedes the old one.

He was going back on the senior list at GC not rookie.

I'm not sure that makes any difference to GC's contract obligations does it? I believe the important thing is that he has signed a longer contract with us so the old one is superseded. If we were just signing him for a year and on a lower wage then I think GC would have to pick up the difference in salary.

What it does is totally screw over GC's list position.
They had planned on taking Greenwood in the national draft as one of there mandatory 3 picks.
Now they have to trade for a second pick or use there 90s pick.
Its back fired hard on GC.

Dollars in each remaining year is the important thing.

If the new contract is more than the pay-out would’ve been then he doesn’t get the pay-out.

If the new contract is less, then they pay the difference.

The relevant rule is something about ‘no unjust enrichment’ iirc.

I did wonder when I read what the plan was why they wouldn't choose a lesser profiled player to do this with so it wouldn't be such a risk.

I then just presumed it was because Greenwood was just a really good club man.

It's stupidity from GC but it's also a but of a dog act from Greenwood.
I think his tweet of a few days ago reads very differently in the current context. I think he was pissed off and sarcastically repeating the nonsense arguments the club was making to him. GC delisted him, not the other way around.

I read it very differently.

It read like a guy that said he's happy to do what it takes to help the club.

GC obviously delisted him but only to re draft him and pay him the same salary.

I thought someone might do this with Rory Thompson... Not HG

Oh GC you do make us laugh 🤣

how many did they have going into the draft?
I know they delisted 3, greenwood, thompson and mclennon.
Surely they had an additional spot in place too?
I guess they could trade pick 3 for 5+25 from hawks and add in one of their late ones too.
Still end up with the same list spots = picks.
If GC are requiring an extra pick we or i doubt any club aren't going to help them that easily. They can offer a future 2nd back

I think you need to take your Kanga's goggles off mate.
Cannot agree with that given he signed a 3 year contract with the Perth Wildcats and then walked out on them to play footy for Adelaide, he has form.
