im so sick of everybody saying how bad essendon are and how there going to struggle next year...last year if it wasnt for a few key injurys we would of played finals football...hird was out for a while and we were ok....i think we have the potential to really be a great team over the next 5/6 years ...i dont know what team there looking at but i think its potentially very very potent....

Just ignore it, they love to hate. It's the offseason after all, let them think what they want.

i agree with what your saying ...but if you carefully examine our list...its full of awesome footballers who with the right guidence could be a power house....but i will take on board what your saying

You might be sick of it,but thats what most observers feel about the Bombers, potential is one thing but translating that into performance is another, who cares about what other people think, there are always one or two bolters from the previous years cellar dwellers, who knows it might be the Dons, i highly doubt it but that is my opinion.

Agree dont worry about it, footy goes in cycles and our turn will be coming, Its was interesting in reading the herald sun with McPhee saying that pre-season has a fresh look this year and they would spend more time talking to each other than getting straight to the training. This to me could be the problem why we don't finish games off and why we were not fit enough in my opinion. Been a footy player myself you need fresh ideas and a fresh voice helps also. I think the older players feel they have alot more energy and the younger players are to take on more responsability and no they will be given more opportunity. Laycock was saying that he would get in the best one week and Hillie would come back in and go straight to the ruck and Laycock would sit on bench. So my conclusion is the change will be good for the players and restore some confidence in the team.

In fairness to Big Bucks, he wasnt stirring the pot at all, he was just giving his honest opinion. If we cant deal with that, then thats too bad. It was Walshy_19 that started the ranting and raving. If were gonna have a thread whinging about opposition supporters, then atleast show them the same sort of courtesy we would expect from them

Well said and opposition supporters are entitled to have their say, within reason of course.

Walshy has been warned that language is not on here.

Pretty whiney thread to be honest and it will probably attract more trolling and derisive comments than anything else for opposition supporters.

Suck it up soldier.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Most of them are school children on holidays, trying to make themselves look tough from behind a computer screen. They are jealous that we are the greatest club, one of the most stable clubs, the most successful with the biggest supporter base in the land. They wish their club was like ours.

They seem to forget that we were 8-5 before injuries hit us in that Geelong game. We managed 10 wins for the season which is a lot more than the previous season.

They claim we are too old. We have lost Hird, true, but they say the rest of our key performers are too old to perform. Therefore we will finish on the bottom. I'm not sure how this works, as we are talking about next season, but still, let them be. Lucas and Fletch are still in fantastic form, and will be critical players next year. They don't see this, they think that you win premierships on age. Not on skill. So despite Fletch and Lucas being at pretty much the top of their game and still possible match winners, as they are old they won't do this. Lloyd is too old as well, therefore useless. 62 goals in 19 games first year back from a potential career ending injury isn't bad. This year he will be fitter (as he will be fully over the injury), but of course will probably only get 1 goal a game, due to the fact he is a year older.

For the first time in a long time Essendon also has a new coach. And while he is yet to coach a game, he hasn't put a foot wrong in the countless media interviews. Still without a game under his belt, these guys are set to write him off. This is fair enough as these kids who probably have heard him speak twice in their lives would have more idea about his credentials to coach Essendon than those who interviewed him for numerous hours, and after months of scrutiny decided he was the best out of all that were available. So their criticism is well deserved due to their knowledge. Most who watched Essendon last year would have noticed quite a loose gameplan. Surely something more structured, anything more structured would be better than this, and improve on our ten wins. Not really. The fact we go from no game plan to a game plan means we should win 7 less games and finish lass. Common knowledge...

Finally, the non Essendon supporters would have seen little of our younger players. While we have seen glimpses of what they can do, through Essendon or Bendigo or club training, they wouldn't have seen much. To be honest, we would most likely over rate our young players a little (as each club does), as we want to see them become stars. We know that some of these kids have already showed promising signs but as far as these guys are concerned, if they wear red and black, they will argue that they will fail.

Basically, don't worry about what they are saying (I say after writing this much on it!). We have more idea than them. They are only little kids bored on school holidays trying to get stuck into Essendon because they are envious of what we have achieved in our history. They are jealous of who we are, and wish their club could be as big as ours. Let them say it all they want. As long as they please themselves, all will be well. School will go back, the posts will die down, the season will start, we won't win the wooden spoon, and they can go jump. Let them enjoy it while they can. Hird was a great player. But losing him, with a list as young as ours won't mean we will lose seven more games. They wish that we would though. :p

Every person thinks some team will do bad. Some people think Geelong wont make the 8 and some really really really stupid people think Melbourne can make the 8. Essendon to make the 8 next year hopefully.

well we do probably have one of the best spines in the AFL.

I know its old, but we are talking about 2008 arn't we? With that team, i am almost certain we will dominate. We also have a ball magnet in Watson. A gun utility in Mcveigh. Explosive speed such as davey, lovett, jetta, licka, houli, dempsey and lovett-murry and dyson. Young guns in gumby, ryder, houli, hislop, davey, jetta, neagle...ect. We have a great team.

The only worry is our disposal. I am actually confident about this problem because Knights has been doing many disposal drills. Pevrill, Watson and Stanton will be guns if they can get their disposal right which i believe they can.

Fitness won't be a worry. We won't be crap in the final quater becasue Knights has focused alot on endurance. Most of our players are getting unbelieveable results. Players such as hocking, houli, monfries, slattery, stanton and even our ruckman are dominating in fitness.

I honesly believe we have the potential to make the top 8. We got a really good spine and some gun youngsters coming through. Bring on 2008:thumbsu:

I actually think we over performed last year. We had a pretty good year with injuries, and Sir James performed admirably. A totally new coaching staff, the possibility of some injuries, no super James to the rescue, and many unknown quantities as far as talented youngsters, could see us finish anywhere from 6th to 16th!

It is grating on my nerves too but in the end it will just make it all the sweeter when we do better than they expect.
We've got a very exciting year coming up IMO :)

Don't worry about it at all. There are no seers on Bay 13, most are just dropkicks whose earliest memories are '84 & '85.

The Hird factor is a tricky one. No doubting his sublime skill and influence but sometimes the absence of such players lets the younger brigade show their creativity. We have drafted a lot of creative players and they should be ready to show their flair and make an influence. This is what I am looking forward to.

The eight is certainly our aim but I think that bottom 4 under values the stars we have, the strength of our spinal set up and the talent coming through. We had managed 10 wins or so last year with injuries and off field dramas. Lloyd and Lucas might not be spring chicken but they are not 30 either. Our forwards kick goals, always have, and there is also running talent there. Clearances have let us down a little but we have had two drafts to rectify this. Our critics hammer us a little here but they are really under appraised of some of these guys. Knights and GOD have made a point on focusing upon the leakage we have had down back. Our draw is not too bad, we have 11 Dome games and only 4 interstate. Whilst all that does guarantee any wins it is more than enough to have confidence in.

IF I was any good I'd be playing AFL:p

Dont worry it is the day we dont get trolled that i worry about becasue it will be the day we are not considered a powerhouse club and just a average club that no one really worries about.

Ha ha

Freo Bulldogs grand final anyone??

Ha ha ha
That still makes me laugh. Will always make me laugh. People were soooo damn sure as well.

Hopefully this year we get some better injury recuperation & are able to get more players on the park more consistently. I think we might just tread water for 2008

I would agree with this 100%. A couple of 1 point wins, a couple of points the other way and the end result wouldn't have been much different to the '06 season.

Much will depend on injuries next year. More important though is the development of our youngsters - Dempsey, Myers, Jetta, Houli, Gumby Hislop, Neagle Ryder, Stanton, Reimers, Williams etc. If we can get a really good year of development from them then we are a chance to really press on.

Having said that, with a few injuries, we definately have a shallow list in terms of experience which could easily finish toward the bottom. Time will tell. Fingers crossed.

realistic fellas,
bombers need it we are a powerhouse of the afl lets get it right next year is gonna be a new eara and so what if we finish near the bottom. but if we win a few games essendon fan have some thing
