Review Ideas that can help our club

Mods, hope that there isn't a thread on this already - merge if necessary.

Several people have been tossing a few ideas around recently on ways that we can help the club financially and by getting more media exposure. As the club has an official membership to our board, I am hoping that they will keep a tab on this thread (as good marketing depts should).

I know that some people have said that they don't want to outline their idea too much in case other clubs pinch the idea, but you could provide an estimation of what you believe the outcome will be and the club could contact you via email if they are interested.

1st off - I have a son who is an Essendon supporter, for his birthday tomorrow I bought him a Essendon jumper. On the bombers website you have an option to get a number put on it - for $15 dollars - I don't think we have that on our shop - so that would be my suggestion.

2nd - I would love the club to put a player on to blog with us for half an hour and promote it really well ie Lakey will be on at 5.30 on Sunday, to blog with us - similar to what the Heraldsun did with the teams live on a Friday afternoon - it was quick and interesting. It wouldn't be hard to promote, put a mention of it on Big Footy, WOOF and the website and the fans would get news of it (no cost to advertise). You can censor the swearing, but honestly I would let the fans say what they wanted, 90% are respectful speaking directly to a player unlike facebook which is abusive anyway.

The club site does have this. I've used it many times :)

Be proud of yourself and offer supporter packages that don't alienate fans who actually remember the Western Oval days. The days when we stood for something and supporters didn't have to be embarrassed to be be proud of our club.

The first thing you should do is encourage your children to go for your club.
I have three sons - two do go for the bulldogs, the other one, just always loved the bombers, not much I could about it. (A large part of my in-laws go for the bombers as well).
Fair point. If my son followed Essendon, I would hang him by his scarf.
And no am not going to hang him by his scarf. Is that the only contribution you two have? negativity and criticism.

Fully agree with this, however we need to go further and see if we can have a ground developed near Footscray holding no more than 30k, possibly the show grounds?????

A Great way to help the club is buy a gold membership and be on auto renew every year.

The auto-renew option is probably the very best thing any dogs supporter can do, if you feel you can afford of course. There is such a massisve churn in memberships year on year, the minute we dip on the ladder, we don't replace the ones who have dropped off and we're in financial trouble - auto renew reduces the churn factor.

On top of that, I pay for a new polo top each season, it's not much, forms part of the monthly fee - and it's a few extra dollars for the club, if every member did something similar, it's a few hundred thou per annum for the club.

I participated in a couple of membership forums/committees about 3 years ago, we put forward ideas that led to the Bulldog for Life program and a couple of groups thrashing around ideas on adding value to membership, Campbell Rose even stuck his head in once to thank us for our time.

I think all these things get traction depending on who is the membership or comms manager at the time and whether it is part of their strategy to actually listen to supporters.

Has anyone else participated in anything like this recently ?

Don't know if I could put my son through years of pain by following the dogs. Not a great idea, may get him to support someone stronger!

A mate decided that he was never going to let anyone in his family support Geelong after the 95 grand final. They ended up supporting Carlton because Carlton were going to be dominant..I told him many times over the years how fickle he was.. Look how that decision turned out for him...

No Dogzrule, how did you get invited - was it a random selection, or some other method?

If you are still thinking this way, pay attention to the crowd next time we play a strong club and ask yourself is a premiership worth a lifetime of having a son who is a prick of a human being, that I would gladly flay and feed to the pigs?

The club a few years ago asked for volunteers on membership renewal

There are quite a few people willing to help with ideas or participate but they probably dont know how

No offence, but I don't like that statement.

As much as the Dogs have frustrated me over the past 30 years,
I couldn't stand endorsing my son to follow another team. Esoecially
One of the "stronger" teams. My only hope is that one day I can share
Watching a Premiership with him now.

Sorry giving up my team and going for another, would be like giving up one of my boys (yes even the Essendon supporting one) and adopting one instead - it ain't ever going to happen.

I just came back shopping from Coles. While walking back I thought of a couple of ideas.

1) Do you guys think we should lure Red Bull to sponsor us? I'm not sure if the AFL has an exclusive agreement with one of their sponsors that would forbid us in doing so (Coca Cola?). Red Bull is a pretty big company. They are huge in sponsoring sports teams. Red Bull Racing (F1), Red Bull Air Race, New York Red Bulls etc. Colours are similar. Red, Blue, White(Silver) and Yellow. Only problem I can see is they like to have their title in their sports/sponsorships officially. See previously mentioned sponsorships.

2) I hear we are considering putting in our reserves team at the cost of around $500,000 or there abouts? Do you think members would accept an average of $20 increase in their membership to have this happen? 30,000 members times $20 is $600,000. This would get you into Whitten Oval games too etc.

Just throwing it out there.

Someone email/send it through to the Club!

Red Bull usually sponsor more extreme sports to build up their brand that way.
I don't think they would be interested in the AFL, and if they were I think they would be looking a bit higher up than us unfortunately.
I think most people here would pay the extra for the membership, but I don't think we are representative of the wider members. You may get 10,000 sign up, but not way would all of the members. Better off saying for $2 a month you could contribute to the Bulldogs having their own VFL team and then listing the benefits comparing to Collingwood/Geelong etc etc.

Western Redbulldogs? :p

*Taps on nose* ;)

Yeah they usually they go for more extreme sports. Motorsports etc. but they also sponsor a few soccer teams too.

We'll just sell it as "Shout the Bulldogs a coffee".
