That dogs leg is never going to be the same after that injury and will never be able to fetch a ball as well ever again. We must cut it from our list.

What on earth did Gollant do his finger. Went from an 8 week injury to a 4-5 week one in 9 weeks.

I don't think it's too surprising Matt has been iced with surgery. Tried to get him right for 2021, didn't happen.

We don't have any in and under guys who avg 30 touches....
If its so easy to get 30 touches why doesn't every mid do it?
Matt is elite in and under winner, not sure why so many don't think he is...

Every team needs one

He's advertised as such, but since 2017 Matt has gone backwards at this element.

Clearance numbers dropped from 5.8 to 5 from 17-19 and whilst Matt did bounce back a tad in 2020 (going at a rate of 5.2 a game when converted to 2019 game time). Contested ball numbers dropped from 13.5 to 11.3 as well from 17-19, and contested ball rate between 35-40%. Ground ball gets dropped from 10.1 per game to 8.31 in 2019. Defensively, you're talking about a drop from 4.8 tackles to 3.4 and ~18 PA to ~17 PA in that time. Moving the ball forwards? 0.7 kick to handball ratio, 57-58 KE, 5.9 SI and 310 meters gained.

I'm mainly using 2019 numbers because it is Matt last full season (and his struggles in early 2020 makes me unwilling to use it).

To compare to Ben, at the moment, they're pretty even. Ben has 5.6 clearances, 11.2 contested ball numbers, 43.2 CBR, 8.3 gbg. Defensively its 5.4 tackles/22.7 PA. Offensively, it's 1.3 k to handball ratio, 51.1 KE%, 5.3 SI and 425 meters gained. Neither are elite in and under winners at the moment. They're both in that second tier of inside midfielders. It's also worth noting Ben averages ~5 disposals less than Matt. Matt is a bit more well rounded, instead of the blunt object Keays is, but not to the point that he elevates himself to that first tier.

I'm firmly in the let Matt take FA camp. You've got Laird (who is an elite in and under winner) to run the midfield, and Keays is contracted for 2 years. We also need to be able to get kids into our midfield, and retaining someone like Matt who has no positional flexibility whatsoever, goes against that goal. Effectively, we made our choice here when we signed Laird for the rest of his career. Our midfield desperately needs Schoenberg to take to it now.

Crows midfielder Matt Crouch will undergo surgery on his right groin to alleviate persistent pain which has prevented him from playing.

The 26-year-old All-Australian, who also had an off-season operation on his right hip, has not played since Adelaide’s pre-season game against Port Adelaide at Noarlunga in March.

The decision to operate comes after a period of conservative rehabilitation, as well as the latest in a series of consultations with a specialist and the Club’s medical team.

I've read a thousand posts about people whinging about the Crows getting rid of Lyons, and lots back in the day that complained that we kept making him the sub.

People liked Lyons, knew he was a bit slow, but no one anticipated how his football brain would allow him to improve to the level he has. Not even his fans

Talia's setback you would think would cost him the season. He was already 3-4 weeks away, we are in round 11 so best case that is round 14-15 and he would need some match conditioning after not playing for so long.. If the setback puts him back more than 2-3 weeks then may as well call the season for him

Alright a set back for Talia after the set back for Crouch. I’m not buying it.

Same setback he had in March, to the same foot.

He then had surgery to remove a bone spur in that foot that was creating the inflammation.

And he still has inflammation, which makes me think he's got tendinitis or some other issue in his foot.

He's done for the season, and if it's a chronic issue with his foot then that could be career over.

This is after reports he played with a torn meniscus for half a season last year, so who knows what structural issues that caused.

Fox reports that O'Brien has been battling a back spasm injury for the last month, but "does not need or want to be rested". This might explain a few things and is consistent with another poster's report of him limping in a supermarket.

I'd only offer him a contract if we've come to the conclusion that Sloane, Keays and Laird will play half their TOG outside of the stoppage rotation and Matt can also play elsewhere for 20% of his TOG. Otherwise, how the **** will we get minutes into our next generation and give our forwards a crack at decent delivery and also apply enough pressure between the arcs to give our defenders a fair chance.

I like Matt, he's good at what he does, actually he's elite at it. But we can't hav3 him and the other 3 rolling into 2022 destined to cover 100% of that key rotation.

edit - $600k is where I see his value. A bit more at a club that needs an accumulator to release others and a bit less at a club like us that already has 3 of him taking up 80% of available minutes.

Played a lot better this week against good opposition so hopefully getting over that niggling injury where players do play through.

Not sure his oppo was good. Nankervis did an ankle early and the other 2 aren't exactly hardened ruck soldiers. I'm not dismissing it as a return to form against quality opposition, I'm just saying it's early days yet and the primary opponent did roll an ankle. Not all players recover from that so easily in game.
