The biggest Australian harness race of the year. I don't like the concept this year but the race is bound to be memorable with the assembled field.

The draw has made it very interesting. ITMQ had a trial Tuesday that will have him sharp for Saturday. He hasnt been his best but if driven cold with the speed on he will be coming home with a strong run. $3.50 is too short for mine though.

Mah Sish is probably not favoured by drawing the pole as he doesnt get away all that quick and he could end up 3 back the pegs at worse. My prediction is he will end up 3 back the pegs which is not the best place to be at Menangle but I think his a good enough horse to motor at the right time and if he finds an opening he could well win the race and not suprise me.

My top pick is Terror to love he will slot into an ideal spot off the speed and will be driven perfectly by Ricky May and brought into the race at the right time and run over the top of them.

The Blaster is my 4th selection, although the beaten in last weeks Geelong cup by Melpark Major he looked sharp and did chase hard. This run will have him ready to rumble. The Gaths have come out and said they will go forward early and try to cross Mah Sish. If he can get to the front early I would have him rated higher but I think Lincoln Royal who generally goes forward will fly the arm and apply pressure from out wide and get to the front.

My top 4:
Terror to love
Im Themightyquinn
Mah Sish
Caribbean Blaster

How do others see the race unfolding?

thread needs @Terror_Time

in his absence;

these races are usually really tough

I like IMTQ, there are enough horses in the race who will want to lead and i cant see them going slowly at the front, this should presnt quinny with the opportunity to run them down near the end. His sprint is in another league compared to the rest. I dont think he can afford to drop too far back though.

Quinny
Pub Blitz
Carribean Blaster

Some other races look super too

race 4 - bluecolla tigerpie e/w
race 5 - majestic mach
race 6 - smolda

really interested in others thoughts though :)

I miss Terror Time, he knows his harness that's for sure.

Shouldn’t discount MAH SISH will get a good run on the pegs and could be dangerous if it can hold them out at the start

Also Christen Me will be hard to beat in race 5

Hate this new format but its hard to argue that it hasnt produced the best field.

Lincoln Royal leads if he brings his NZ gatespeed from Chariot King
C Blaster has nil hope of holding the lead IMO so Kate has a decision to make
Mah Sish has been a revelation but strangely 1 is a horror draw for him
Quinny will finally get driven as he needs to be but that means he requires speed, amazing how a dual Inter winner can be so harshly judged, hope he brings his A game
Terror To Love looks bulletproof & is more versatile than most of these

Gath might be better off holding the running line, 3 back the running line gives plenty of opportunity. If they burn early you would want to be 3 back the running line then 3 back the pegs.

Christen Me is in race 6, the race before the ID.

He was impressive from all reports in his trial with ITMQ. Will certainly be looking for the front from 4 and after his front running trial thats where you would like to see him. His currently $2.50. I like the Vic, Restrepo. He will get a nice spot possible the 1-1. He has a sharp sprint on him given the right run he will be there in the finish.

1. Mah Sish - Gate speed an issue with barrier 1, if Butt sticks to the pegs he could get buried 3 or possibly 4 back which would be a disaster as this horse is tougher rather than brilliant and he also faced the possibility of a horse like Chariot King falling back in his lap 400 from home. Got a feeling his only chance to win is to snag back at the start, try to get into the running line and get a cart home in the last lap. Not much chance for mine from the barrier.

2. Caribbean Blaster - I see Chariot King being first to the pegs and in that case l think the lead is Kate's if she pushes forward straight after gate release. Lincoln Royal is the fly in the ointment but i'm not sure he crosses MMM let alone CB from out there. That being the case l think CB can take the lead off CK. From there it's a case of if he's good enough to lead all the way. No doubt this horse is versitile enough to either lead or sit 3 to 4 back the running line and still win. For my bets l will be banking on him either taking the lead from CK or LR whichever finds the fence first. Huge chance for mine if he can lead and get away with a cheap quarter.

3. Jaccka Clive - Could lob 1x1 or 1x2 early but will have to make at least one move if not two in the race to be competitive for some minor prize money. In my opinion probably not good enough at the very top level to place. Probably worth throwing in for 4th in first 4's just from the draw.

4. Chariot King - Flying at the moment and l can see him leading and taking a sit on either CB or LR. Don't think he can win but a sneaky place chance just from where he will be in the run.

5. Excel Stride - Not as quick out as some of the others off the front line and in my opinion not going as well as he possibly could be. l think Luke snags back at the start and drives for luck. Another with a hope at some minor prize money.

6. Im TheMightyQuinn - Super horse in W.A around the saucer like track but does he bring it when up against the very best? Most would say yes but l have my doubts. l just have a nagging thought that he handles the smaller tracks and sprinting around corners better than the bigger tracks. His record speaks for itself but in my opinion (and that's all it is) l don't think it's as easy as a cart up and outsprinting horses like TTL and CB if the speed up front is not breakneck. (Without Smokin Up in the race i'm not sure the speed will be stupid up front, not like it has been in Grand Circuit for the last couple of years with Lance turning the handlebars down from 1200 out). The horse may have thrived since arriving in N.S.W and that would be great but for mine l don't think he was going as well back home this prep as he was this time last year.

I'll do the rest tomorrow or sat.

I think the key is the pace and who will lead and who will want to lead

Likely leaders

CB
LR
CK

Leaders back / 1x1
MS
MMM
TTL
CB?
JC

Nsw iform has got LR leading on pegs from MMM, CK leaders back CB 1x1

It gets harder from there

Who is going to lead IMTQ into the race? I reckon if hall is smart he should sit on TTL back and the race is his

Going to have something eachway on pub blitz, coming out behind Mah Sish could either be behind the leader or 3back the pegs, with the wide menangle straight could have plenty of time to get out and sprint home after a cosy run.

Don't think this horse can win, but I will have a small outlay on Bitobliss, was the best horse in Victoria 6 months ago, hasn't been the same of late, but just in case.

Terror to Love is my pick. ITMQ is a bit past it like Washakie imo

Where does everyone get their detailed form for the harness racing? I am unable to watch every race to get all the details on horses and was wondering where everyone gets all their info from :)

Great day on Sunday, luckily I'm on days off so can make a big day out of it. My brother's horse is in the Oaks final (rank outsider) will have a little nibble at her still. Of the whole card I think the Chariots is the one that I'm really looking forward to.

Have run out of time to give detailed thoughts on the rest of the field with flat out work the last 2 days and tomorrow unfortunately.

Selections for the ID.

1st Terror To Love
2nd Caribbean Blaster
3rd Im TheMightyQuinn
4th Mah Sish

Goodluck to everyone having a crack tomorrow.

Jaccka Clive EW is my tip for the race. Big fan of how he has been racing recently and should lob a good spot

Sensational win by the WA Champion Im TheMightyQuinn ..the best pacer in Australasia at the moment by the length of the Menangle straight!
A few East Coaster's will be eating humble pie tonight for dinner after that breathtaking last to first Interdominion win to bring up 3 Inters in a row. :D
Well trained to the minute by Gary Hall Snr who was telling all & sundry all week how good he was going & driven an absolute treat by Jnr.
Im Victorious unlucky in the Chariots of Fire as well, another topline West Aussie to follow.
