"The Pentagon built this year’s budget under restrictions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which limits the Biden administration’s spending on national defense to $895 billion. In adhering to the FRA, Raven said the Navy prioritized people and platforms currently in the fleet over modernization, meaning it delayed the development of some future programs."

"Raven said the FY25 budget also maintains its planned advance procurement for future submarines, which is “incredibly important in terms of supporting the supplier base to set themselves up for the needed production rate for Virginia class.”

And in the longer term, he explained, the Navy in last year’s long-range shipbuilding plan showed an intention to buy one boat a year in each of FY30 and FY31.

Now, the Navy believes it can buy two boats in each of those years, which will be reflected when the long-range shipbuilding plan comes out later this spring, he added.

“So taken as a whole, this budget presents a significant investment in the undersea capability area, and we feel like these are absolutely the needed moves to make sure that we’re set up for the long term, for success in both Virginia and the Columbia program,” he said, the latter being the ballistic missile submarine that the Navy still calls its top spending priority."

Rear Adm. Ben Reynolds, the deputy assistant secretary of the Navy for the budget, said Friday the total submarine-industrial base funding would be $3.9 billion in FY25 alone. That doesn’t include the cost of buying actual submarines, but rather the funds being poured into the supply chain to help vendors hire and train workers, retool existing facilities and build new ones, invest in additive manufacturing, and more.

That one-year sum is $1.5 billion more than the Navy planned to spend across the entire five-year FYDP last year, showing how thorny a challenge this has been and how important it remains to future American and AUKUS alliance needs."

AUKUS and the nuclear industry is still very much a happening thing. The United States is taking the money from that one submarine and using it to expand the production capabilities of their industry precisely for AUKUS. They need to increase production from the current level of 1.2 boats delivered per year up to 2.3 to 2.5. That can't happen unless you have the production capacity built into supply chains, which costs money.

Trying to confirm but there seems to be reports that France is sending in troops into Ukraine. This is huge news if true and will radically change this war.

Ukraine has done a great job in softening the sea & air spaces to establish likely air & sea superiority. France will take advantage of this and help Ukrainian ground forces during the next counter offensive.

The Baltic states are "open to the idea" as they could be next if Ukraine lose.
Poland may also be "shifting position".

Is not true.

Macron merely refuses to rule the option out in an interview and states France would NOT act unilaterally in any case.

'Macron, who is the commander-in-chief of the country’s armed forces, declined to describe in which situation France would be ready to send troops. He said the responsibility for prompting such a move would lie with Moscow — “It wouldn’t be us” — and said France would not lead an offensive into Ukraine against Russia.'

NATO can send troops to Ukraine or wait until they are fighting russia ("in the future") in a NATO country.

JANUARY 10, 2022
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov emerged from the nearly eight hours of talks and declared, "There are no plans or intentions to attack Ukraine." He went on to say, "There is no reason to fear some kind of escalatory scenario."

17 Dec 2023
The Russian president has dismissed the United States’s claims that Moscow could attack a NATO country in the future as “complete nonsense”, saying such a conflict would run counter to his country’s interests.

It is a tragedy what happened in Russia to those civilians but I just about vomited watching Putin do this on the news tonight
What a hypocrite.

Putin is looking for a story line to support escalation of the war against Ukraine and possibly Europe. Must be pretty close to calling for another round of mobilization to take advantage of Ukraine's weakened state thanks to Mike Johnson, Donald Trump & the MAGA Republicans.

I must say, I had a chuckle when I saw that the Ukrainian people chose a comedian as their President but he has proven to be more than capable in the role and an incredible leader during the Russian invasion. Certainly braver than Putin who has strong words but hides away in his bunkers and behind long tables.
Zelenskyy visits the front lines to support his troops and travels the world at great risk to his personal safety.
Also refusing Trump’s bribes and threats shows he has more integrity and guts than nearly every Republican.

Lev Parnas says that no one in Trump's world gave Volodomyr Zelensky "any credit when he came into office," as they thought "He's just a comedian; He will just roll over and play ball," however Zelensky refused the requests of Donald Trump, one of the most powerful men in the world, to drum-up a fake investigation into the Bidens' link to Burisma Energy.

It was not the Ukrainian government seeking to meddle in US elections or to support Democrats nor Republicans - it was Russia and its agents, says Parnas, through the use of the Burisma scandal.

Why, despite giving eight hours of testimony before Congress, did Republicans refuse to ask Parnas a single question?

Parnas says that it is because Republicans already had all of the evidence showing that what he was saying under oath is truthful and accurate: There is no basis to the story that the Bidens were engaged in corruption, in Ukraine.
