Roast Irreconcilable differences

I never thought my keyboard would utter these words, but I have completely fallen out of love with Port Adelaide. I've been a Port fan for nearly 50 years, and I've never been at a lower ebb than I am right now. When I got home from the Port Club last night, I was so annoyed that even though I know it won't have any effect on the clowns running our club, I sent the following to our membership department:

Tonight’s loss was the final straw for me. Not only will I not be returning as a member until our fraud of a senior coach is replaced, but I’m also unsubscribing from all club e-mails. Quite simply, until Ken Hinkley leaves Alberton for the last time, this club isn’t going anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The relationship between the club and many of its fans has become irreconcilable under this organisation. Happy clappers can continue their facade, "Don't worry - we're just going through a bad patch, but Kenny will see us through to the other side, and success is just around the corner." That's complete and utter crap: we are doomed to fail as a club until we actually grow some balls and make the changes that are now at least 7 years overdue. The coach is one problem, but as a club, we have far deeper issues than just Ken. We need a complete clean out, and until that happens, the merry go round of mediocrity will just keep going around and around and around.............

Well said, I to have been a supporter since the mid 70’s and last night was just the final straw because the same thing keeps happening again and again and again. We played a side that hasn’t made finals for 7 years and nobody can work out another method to beat an inferior side. There is no fight left in the players we are just going through the motions. I have a membership as I have had for 40 years but I won’t bother anymore (I was bored shitless at the last home game it was that bad)
How anyone can defend the coaching is absolutely delusional. It’s completely outdated.

Wonderful post. I have also been a member and supporter for a similar time. It is disgusting what has happened to our club driven by some self centred self important individuals such as Koch, Ken and Richardson. Absolutely disgusting. I feel the need to email Tredders. Not sure how to get in touch but I will make an attempt to find out today.

Well done.
I'm not at 50 years, but I quit the club early last year, pretty much at the same time untenable happened.

Told family that the winning streak was a fraud and a mirage, and so sad that I was right.
Couldnt watch the GWS final live, and was sadder that it was the right decision.
Sat dispassionately through the HinkleyBall special last night. I mean no emotion.

It's not about results, it's not about player effort.
It's the coach, it's the tactics, it's the excuses, it's the mediocrity, it's the repeat button.

It's sad.

You know what? I’m with you. If the recent booming crowd numbers and hundreds of morons on social media who rush to completely absolve Ken of predictable performances like last night’s are any guide, losing lifelong diehards like Phil here is no great loss.

Sure the club devolves into a meaningless, soulless franchise designed purely to generate revenue on par with the Adelaide Strikers and Gold Coast Suns, but the colour of his money is no different to that of any random noob under the age of ~25 who can’t remember or hasn’t seen a single Port Adelaide premiership.

That's the spirit.

I think GWS are great, not a relocated or rebranded Vic club, not merged, represents west Sydney and really the entirety of regional NSW plus ACT. A former port bloke is coach, and they have a good squad and play honest footy. Port can piss off until when/if they get their house in order with a respectable President and coach that live Port Adelaide values. I am a GWS member in 2024 but living in Canberra helps. I struggle to understand how so many people have held onto belief the port club under Koch and Hinkley will ever turn things around.

I've been on the GWS bandwagon for a few years now. Unfortunately, with our main club destined for ongoing mediocrity for the foreseeable future, you gotta pick an alternative. Like the old days of people having a SANFL and a Victorian club. Now we also get to support two, Port and a capable club. I might even get a Kayo GWS membership.

If you are in the ACT hit me up. We can form a “former Port member now GWS supporter” fan club. I’ll be heading to the GWS v Sydney game in June and the game against the Hawks at Manuka. The Kayo GWS membership is good value.

Pretty much where I've been at since the club took the "nothing to see" approach after the 21 PF.

After years of reluctantly signing up thinking I still need to financially support and who knows maybe they'll prove me wrong, the non-accountability and inability to address anything after the 21 PF was the final straw. I just accepted it was no longer the Port Adelaide football club I supported.

Since then, I've been back to pre 1996 when my only interest in the VFL is following individuals (players or coaches) that once played for Port.

It interesting that GWS are slowly building a national following (even as a second club) for being the type of club that we once were, and accepted into the AFL for being.

Unfortunately time is against us now to save the club we all used to know and love. There is no concerted effort by anyone from ex-players, ex-administrators or members to challenge the clubs current AFL controlled status.

AFL has done a great job of gutting our club essence so we can become Crows Lite. We sold our soul to the devil in 2012 and he has being collecting it piece by piece ever since. Our club will never recover in time should it become member controlled once again as the future membership base will never know the success the club once had and the traditions it upheld.

RIP PAFC, history & pride 2024.
