Is Brendon Goddard Overrated?

Just off the bat, I think he's a fine player with a lot of tools.

Preseason, most lists & journos had him as one of the best 5 players in the AFL. The elite of the elite.

He has the Kouta syndrome. Often his output is irrelevant b/c he has it all, great build, great versatility & a thumping kick. The 2 GF's (despite being drubbed in the replay) are like Kouta's 99' PF, they have transformed a very good player to be one of the best 5 players in the AFL in perceptions.

He's had a slow start to the season but would a Top 5 player be torn apart by Brett Deledio in a form slump?

Selling Deledio a bit short here I think.....

Far from overrated, he is a pure champ. Personally I'd pick him first if I had to choose any player for the eagles. Franklin would be 1 on potential and he does have consistency but Goddard is a step above when it comes to, game day situations, he should be captain for St Kilda and tried his heart out in the grand finals, it's a shame not everyone else could replicate his performance.

No. He's better than Swan.

Also, one game does not constitute a form slump.

Yep. Obviously very good, has a questionable temperament, would rival Bret Thornton in the cracking the sads stakes, so easy to suck in. Commentators have clearly fallen in love with him. Very good footballer, just not the superstar some say he is.

2 games at the start of the season isn't exactly a form slump. His due for a purple patch of them freak games he has, where he gets 30 touches, 10 marks and a goal or two.

He was close to Jolly, Thomas, Pendlebury & Sidebottom in the replay? Let's not forget Goddard's opponents had 17 disposals on him in the 2nd half, yet, we'll let that one slide.

Yes. Very good player but I think he hit a purple patch of form in the last half of last year and everyone jumped at it. No doubt he (clearly) has the potential to be a top 5 player, but needs to do it more consistently.

Why does he need to dominate in midfielder or forward which he already does but that like saying, Brian Lake couldn't be top 5-10, Stephen Silvagni can't be rated as one of the best, purely because he only dominated as a fullback and not a midfielder

As i said in the other thread, when a team knows they are going to lose a GF their heads drop and the opposition get their tails up. Hard to judge Goddard on his performance in that 2nd half once the game was lost, like the other St Kilda players he probably just wanted to get off the ground asap.

When the game was on the line in the first GF and the first half of the replay he was close to BOG.

those 2 defenders are players that play on and shut down gun kp forwards , they have a totaly diffrent role to goddard

unless you are kp defender and even than its very hard its near impossible to be one of the best 5 players in the comp as a defender
