Isaac Smith: We're the hunters against the Cats

8 debutantes this year, so it will prove to be a rebuilding season for us, as opposed to the bought Cat side.
LOL....
Gibson: Bought
Burgoyne: Bought
Fitzpatrick: Bought
Gunston : Bought
Hill: Bought
Smith: Bought
Frawley: Bought
McEvoy: Bought

And that's just off the top of my head...

Hill was drafted. So was Smith. :$

But every club has a few traded in players, the difference with Geelong is an inordinant amount of them the last few years including this one. So they are a bought side in 2016, whereas Hawthorn have drafted their way to the top and now seem to be beginning a rebuild.

Hawthorn played 5 traded in players last weekend. Geelong, 4.

I'm talking about the year and you're picking out individual games :$ 4 traded in players in a year has to be some sort of record for a non-expansion team.

Lol. Making it up as you go along as usual I see.

Cred for trying to troll a team on trading in players though. It's almost as if the Hawks have been able to develop talent post the 2004 draft.

My point has remained the same throughout, this year is defined by Hawthorn as the beginning of a rebuild, whereas for Geelong it's about buying players.

They have, which is why they kicked on with a 3peat.

If it'll stop your melts.

I can only find 7, Pittonet, Burton, Stewart, Lovell, Brand, Heatherley, Hardwick.

Ok, so 8 = 7, which is the same as your 2014 debuts? That was a rebuild year too, was it?

I presume, given its a rebuild year, that these debutants must have played lots of games between them? Surely more than 50?

20??

Don't get all literal on me now, 8 was close enough. 2014 I don't think WAS a rebuild year, I would probably refer you to 2011 when players like Suckling, Breust, Shiels and co really found their feet.

There isn't a necessary amount of games for debutantes to play for a rebuild year. I should also mention the likes of Sicily, Howe from last year who we also got games into along with the 7 debutantes. The rebuild is on.

Hawk's look like will replicate the cats 'buying' this year by getting in Vickery, Vardy, Mitchell and JOM.

Is it wrong or illegal to recruit established players to strengthen your team? Cats, Swans and Hawks do it and do it well. Hence the dominance.

Someone please explain how that is a bad thing, seriously.

It's a bad thing for Lethality if Hawthorn lose to said teams.

Player movement is only going to increase only a fool of a team would not embrace it.

I see a club which can attract multiple talented players at any one time as possessing a rather virtuous trait. Hawthorn would NOT have won its last three flags without the assistance of the many talented players it recruited to fill holes on its list. The fact that Hawthorn could not only attract these players, but make them better speaks wonders for their development and coaching programs.

Geelong has elected to do the same and to fill vital holes on its list. We were struggling big time in the ruck and contested ball. We were also planning for the future without Lonergan, as well as replacing a vital player whom which we also "bought" in Jared Rivers. With the inclusions of Stanley, Smith, Dangerfield, Henderson and S.Selwood we have propelled ourselves back into Premiership contention.

Geelong, like Hawthorn has a brilliant track record of both recruiting and developing, as well as developing our recruits. How was Henderson's form at Carlton last year? What about Zac Smith at Gold Coast? Stanley? He'd only played one decent game at St.Kilda. Point is; Geelong and Hawthorn are very similar and I can see the Hawks bolstering their line-up once again in 2017.

Hell, if any club could turn Ty Vickery from a potato into a serviceable player it'd be the Hawks. If Jaeger O'Meara elects the Hawks as his preferred destination (I know it'd probably be Essendon though) I'm going to bet that he'll jump out of the blocks with a magically cured knee and would be tearing games apart. I hate Hawthorn but I admire and respect them at the same time.

As for the OP and the Hawks being hunted; Smith is actually right. Hawks form is pretty shit and Geelong is in very decent form. Hawks have concerns with their undersized KP players, their inexperienced ruckmen and their midfield getting smashed in the contest. With Danger in such rich vein of form, Selwood not far behind and Menegola bobbing up and playing a vital role, Isaac has reason to be worried. The Cats are coming to hunt him and the rest of his Hawk mates.;)

I get the banter that's cool. I just think it's idiotic when people say your club got so and so player from other clubs. Yeh and? If that helps us win then so be it.

Reigning three-peaters and claiming underdog status? I know we routinely make them our bitch but that's just a loser mentality from the Hawfie inner sanctum.

No doubt, based on form Cats are the favourite. That's not some reverse jinx thing either. Your window is open before your veterans retire and I hope you guys don't win a flag in that time :)

Agreed. Player movement is only going to increase. Embrace it.

Our recruiting has already improved us 8 places on the ladder and +7 wins. With a lot of luck we could snatch the flag. Even if we don't I can't see how it wasn't a worthwhile move seeing as the players we got in are all in the 25-28 bracket.

Yep. We're favourites and I say that not due to being a cocky flog but because we're actually a better team right now. Of course, you guys could turn your form around at any point and this week could be when that happens. If so, more power to you and you'll probably go on to win the flag. But right here and now, on current form you guys can't be favourites and the betting odds reflect this.
