They need to pick quality candidates to stand a chance, the good thing for the ALP in Werribee is they finally moved away from staffers and picked a school teacher with real runs on the board in the community, while the Libs picked a real estate agent who bought his way in.

Vic Labor are lucky the election isn't for another two years, they'll be tightening the belt this year, have people using the Metro and West Gate Tunnels by the end of the year, and have the time to get their house in order.
But if their current performance costs Federal Labor government Allan will be gone by June.
You forgot to mention the billions of dollars debt the state is in.

'nuff said.

Nothing to do with the seat of Monbulk (Emerald and Belgrave) being held by Labor being next door to the Battin's seat of Berwick (covering Gembrook)

Puffing Billy will be chockers on the Australia Day holiday, but Australia Day itself is just another Sunday.

All the God fearing conservatives will be in church and shouldn't expect volunteers to give up their Day of Celibration of the Nation to hang an Australian flag on the front of the engine.

Nothing to stop the duly elected representative of a town and busnesses within his electorate contacting the Puffing Billy Railways Board to discuss his proposal in full and frank discussions

That's the laugh I get from everyone getting outraged and threatening a boycott.
It's an internationally renowned tourist attraction.

I can guarantee from personal experience there will be multiple tourist buses filling up the train like every other day of the year.

There are some paid employees for what it's worth.

I'm guessing Battin thinks Jacinta should intervene given the PBR board is government legislation.

Except the day to day stuff is run by the PBPS

I was being facetious and I know there are paid employees, but still, as the member for Berwick, a small discussion with management to celebrate Australia Day could have accomplished the same outcome and been a feather in his cap if reported correctly as supporting his electorate.

Monbulk is an odd electorate, the North is Liberal Party, but the Hills and South are Greens/Labor. There's no new estates like Berwick/Pakenham so the demographics have remained constant, The voting for the Voice in the southern booths was about 60% Yes. Doesn't mean that it can't be swung, but at least in the South and Hills it will be hard, (a whole lot of unreconstructured refugees from 1975)

Historically, Puffing Billy is not particularly liked by the Dandenongs, but it is part of our lifestyle and "bugger off".

He was playing for the owners of the residents of the ticky tacky houses of his electorate

HS dialling up the flag waving nationalism even more. I've seen a tonne of articles from them this week about Australia Day being 'cancelled' by someone.

Jacinta now has the legitimate reason she needs to abandon SRL - the Federal government, which was expected to provide one third funding, is now not providing any funding, redirecting the $2+Billion earmarked for SRL to the Airport Rail Link.

On another issue besieging this government we have proof the Bail laws introduced by this government are completely ****ed. A 16 year old repeat offender posted on Facebook while driving the stolen car, boasting that if he gets caught he’ll be out on the street in 90 minutes. The 16 year old finishes his post saying that in Victoria teenagers will keep committing crime “because they will never have to serve time”

Contracts are signed for SRL. Not so airport link

If the govt is guaranteed to lose on late 2026, might dig in and continue valuable but unpopular projects

Yes. Contracts signed but there is NO funding for SRL. This will have implications on the state’s credit rating.

Do you know why the Feds are redirecting their funding. Because there is no business case for the complete SR Loop.

I remember the kirner govt was certain to lose, and turned swanston st into a car free zone before departing

Current govt is managing a huge infrastructure pipeline which is yet to play out.

Of course if voters remove them, they still get the benefit of the infrastructure

And it’s wrong to say there’s NO funding. You used capital letters There is funding for initial stages, it’s future funding which is clearly in doubt

I may be wrong but apart from what the state government has committed, what else is there?

Actually the state government have secured only a third of the funding for the initial stage and that’s being generous expecting it to cost anywhere near the $34.5 billion they’re claiming it will cost.
