Houston himself said he wanted to stay.I don't think they want to, Houston is the instigator here.
Please bump this post if a deal is done within the first hour of trade week.
Because if what's being said is true. Paper work submitted?
Yeah?
After he said that, he met with 4 Melbourne clubs in 2 days.Houston himself said he wanted to stay.
This is club initiated.
Port could keep him if they wanted to as under contract.
Well, they probably do need one after trading their 22/23/24 1sts, in order to keep their options open for their 1st in 2025 (they might chase NWM, for instance)So they want to pay more money for a lesser player to get a mid to late 1st round pick...
Port initiated it!After he said that, he met with 4 Melbourne clubs in 2 days.
Not sure Port would've initiated that.
Bit of bothI don't think they want to, Houston is the instigator here.
Houston wants to leave, he could quite easily stand his ground.Port initiated it!
He's being pushed out so they can get back into the draft.
Would you stay in your job if your employer wanted you out?Houston wants to leave, he could quite easily stand his ground.
He's not.
Like the player this thread is about ??Would you stay in your job if your employer wanted you out?
Wasn't there reports Houston himself was distancing himself from his teammates as the season went on?Would you stay in your job if your employer wanted you out?
Not that I'm aware.Wasn't there reports Houston himself was distancing himself from his teammates as the season went on?
Yep, they are mad imo.Like the player this thread is about ??
Players refuse to be traded all the time. Port are absolutely mad to even contemplate trading a guy who's probably their best player.
I definitely recall hearing it, might look to see where it’s referenced in print in a bitNot that I'm aware.
Butters is a bigger issue!I definitely recall hearing it, might look to see where it’s referenced in print in a bit
I think they need to keep Boak around the club in a big way, he's the glue that holds that playing group together.Butters is a bigger issue!
The trade won’t be announced in the first hour of trade week.
It certainly doesn’t mean that things are well advanced. At the moment, the decision rests with Luko given he is contracted and GC can’t do anything about that but if you seriously don’t think clubs aren’t talking to each other, I’ve got a bridge to sell to you.
We should have access to two future firsts next year if we need them FWIW.But if giving up the future 1st nets us Luko and a top 25 pick to get Dodson that’s a win
We can then go all in end of next year with future 1st for NWM
Mate you have mentioned this confidently a few times saying they could fit in Luko (1m next 2 years) and Perryman (850k ish). They have the space
Sounds about right for Houston. Pick 10 and 28. I would think the Saints with one of their top 10 picks (assuming Battle still gets tier one compo which still does my head in) would likely be willing to give that up for Houston and be the core component of any trade. Plus perhaps a F2.IF Port really are in for him and they ship Houston, here is how I see it playing out
Port trade Houston for a mid 1st and a 2nd (either this draft or future).
Port offer F1 for Luko and change
Port take the mid 1st they get from Houston to this draft to get a quality mid
Port will get Perryman who can pick up slack from losing Houston. Burgoyne also will do that next year.
They can easily set up a strategy to get things done and improve their list
Agreed and he is more of the same. Like Mitch and even Marshall he ain’t that pack splitting beast like TT (plus mongrel The Fog) or Charlie purported to be. Perhaps Lord comes good but apparently been dud like in their dud SANFL team so signs aren’t good. Even Finlayson, who is very skilful for a big guy, but extremely soft footballer and never going to be the pack smasher,Aren’t all these scenarios based on getting good picks for Houston kind of forgetting that they will lose a really good player - pretty much in his prime - from a position on the field that Paer struggle in?
If the plan is to put Luko as key forward and send Rutogalea back to cover Dan the Man?
Houston was one of the players I saw as crucial to their success, so losing him feels like big loss. Not sure how adding Lukosius to an underperforming forward line will remedy that?
I actually think it’s both, clearly Port could poo poo it straight away as you say (like Dons did with Merrett, Dees with Pets) and I agree they want in to this years draft which is quite even in the top 10-12 picks which they will likely land. It was stupidity paying so much for Rat last year giving up this years first.Port initiated it!
He's being pushed out so they can get back into the draft.

Purely a first person recount but from what I recall the initial Houston trade rumours were that Port were shopping Houston looking to get back into the draft. These rumours were laughed at, and a few weeks later Houston wanting to leave Port started popping up in the media.
