Watching his highlights, Martin can hit those 45 degree inboard kicks and has an off foot, I'm thinking that he could be a HBF

Don't mind it at all.
Only issue is we have too many solid defenders as is. Maybe Mullin can become a permanent midfielder?
Humphries could certainly be trialed through the middle with another preseason under his belt.
Can't see Guthrie being shifted up the field.

We'll have around 33-35 players on our list get a game next year, between blooding new players and players getting injured or needing a rest. Something that can kill a team's year, is that that when they get to height and winter and the 27th to 30th players on their list and getting regular games, they find that they're playing 4 or 5 guys in the 22 who aren't even standing out in the 2nd tier, but have no better option.

Can't see him getting a game on anything other than past reputation,I think playing him will take us backwards to the old slow moving the ball forward Geelong.

You are blaming guthrie for chris scotts previous coaching strategy?

Guthries strength was his line breaking. It works much better with our new game plan.

Guthries strength was his line breaking. It works much better woth pit mew game plan.

I read it as Guthrie being two years older, slower, and more injury prone, hence his ability to 'break lines' is more a thing of past reputation than an ability to continue doing it going forward.

If we can get something out of him in 2025 I'd see it as a bonus, but I wouldn't be relying on it.

Line breaking has never been Guthrie's strength he's an accumulator who's always looking to distribute to the line breakers hence his low mts gained per disposal he has been worked out and more and more those disposals are under extreme opposition pressure and result in a hacked kick in hope eventually by a player with less time and fewer options than Guthrie had in the first instance.

Might HBF be a chance to be less injury prone?

A bit like Miers who is reliable at set shots …. Martin is a very good kick…. and could be a weapon at those mid field kicks
Free hit Turbo and needed to be at one stage in his career he smoked of having huge upside and x factor but that's looking to have been extinguished he's at his best when free wheeling in the forward half hope he can re find his mojo at the Cattery

I see him a bit like Rohan ..who came to Geelong for little , was highly rated yet perceived as an under achiever and a bit injury prone. He will find a role ..if he stays fit as on talent he would easily be top 10 in our group

Jack Martin.
Elite junior. Skills a plenty.
Up forward.
Plays tall with sticky hands. Match-Up headaches 4 the Oppo.
Plays small. Match-Up headaches 4 the Oppo.
Can play in the mid and down back.
A swiss army knife.
If we can keep him on the park & fit. Will be a GEM.
Great get IMO.

What are you talking about?

Guthrie had one of the best shimmys in the game. Not just at geelong but in the game. Was also a run and carry player (when allowed to play that way).

I agree with you, especially the "had" part.
Bro looks absolutely cooked.

I agree but he's in his 30s and had leg injuries for 2 years so there's no guarantee his body can do it anymore. We've all seen how Duncan has lost pace after the calf injuries Guthrie could be the same.

Yes and I want it to be “touched” like the Riccardi one to piss them off even more.
What a glorious day that was.

Myself and a few mates went nuts after the siren and some Carlscum 🤡 wanted to box on and singled me out.

He was ranting with a clenched fist, "my fist will show you how much it was touched by you effing dog see-you-next-tuesday"

Thankfully his mate had more sense than he did and ushered him away before it escalated.

Are you in the footage at all?

I was in the medallion club that night. I rarely drink beer at the footy. But I said to my mate at 1/2 time "Time to go inside and drink some beer" Sidled up with some Carlton fans, told them we were cooked and we had a really good chat and we never left the table.

As it went on you could she they had started crapping themselves. I wasn't cheering to see that. But it's amazing how you can see people start to despair over a simple game such as footy.

No. I've watched that last two minutes many times over the past 20 years. We were sitting at the Carlton scoring end. So, really, it's not like anyone at that end had a clue at the time if it was touched. Thank all the deities in existence that there was no score review, as I think it may have been touched! 😂

For some people, football is their life. Certainly as an 18-year-old, I loved going to the footy and riling up opposition supporters.

As a very average side in the early 2000s, you just had no idea what Geelong would produce week to week. Forest Gump would have described us as a box of chocolates.

Some of the losses were shocking, but some of the wins were far more memorable than most wins in the glory years since 2007.

So you were 'treated' to the Lappin debacle instead? Lucky you! I bet old mate Carlton supporter was getting his jollies in that moment before turning on you 20 seconds later!!!

Carlton fought back hard, but Lappin should have had the kick out there on the flank. No guarantees.

That's the irony of it perhaps being touched because it was an absolute joke of a 50 metre penalty that put Carlton in front.
