Oh...a suns supporter melting...feeling a little burned in that Gold Coast schoolies sun. I’d be melting about my clubs incompetent draft/trade handling more so than another clubs ‘history’...now that’s a deflection.A lot of arrogant Blues fans here. Before you start to ridicule Suns look at your club first.
Great history, big support base, a lot resources. Yet, look at your past 19 years. How's that even possible? How many spoons did you win? 5. What about brown paper bags full of cash? How many PPs did you get? PP2 (2003, Walker), PP1 (2005, Murphy), PP1 (2007, Kreuzer). That looks to me like a better deal than what Suns got (2, 20, 11, 20). Just a year ago you won 2 games and had a worse percentage than Suns this year. Yet, you talk like you are a top 4 club with no issues.
Suns is not an established club with a long history. Suns is owned and controlled by AFL. AFL totally screw up Suns set up in NRL environment. It would be fun to see Carlton working from metal demountable sheds including gym for 8 years. Suns were underfunded at all levels, started with admin, senior coach first time in those positions, academy zone producing no players early, no F/S, non-existing off field commercial opportunities for players, ridiculous stadium deal.
Regarding Martin, two clubs had different view on his value. Carton expected that Suns were bluffing and were focused on Papley deal. Yes, AFL assistance to Suns had an impact on Suns position. If you think the whole process had no impact just listen SOS interview 'Martin went through a lot'. No club wants a player coming to them through a PSD. Could Suns agree to a deal proposed by Carlton? Not doubt. As Carlton could accept sliding down.
Regarding pick trades for Flanders and Sharp Suns got players they wanted and used assistance picks for them. Cats would never accept Carlton future 2nd, 3rd while Suns had pick 11.
Personally, I would love to see Martin at his best. It could be a great sight to see Martin do his magic in front of 80K. I have some doubts about him. In the second half of the season Martin was borderline embarrassing in some games. Even if you want to leave you don't play like that. Hopefully, fresh start will motivate Martin and he lifts his standards on and off the field. He is a super talent.
Finally, not sure why so many Carlton fans need to fight and win battles. It's a footy, AFL is a national game. It's in AFL interest for Suns to succeed. If anything, Suns brief history shows how hopeless AFL headquarters are and how AFL is still run and controlled by VFL clubs.
