Redden is by no means a mug,but as I've said before I think he gets a lot of wraps based more on his stats than his impact on a game. His positives are that he does get decent amounts of the ball and gets high tackle numbers. On the flip side of that, he tends to get a lot of tackles because he can be hesitant to go for the ball I think. His ball use for the most part I would say is about average, sometimes iffy, a lot of his short to medium kicks tend to land short of the man leading I find. Can be far too hesitant to make a decision with the ball in hand aswell which can be frustrating when you're trying to move the ball quickly. Not a guy that you go "Remember when Redden had that great game against _?" Not bad, a C+\B- player.
Now that the trade is done, we need to back Simmo into morphing him into a better player. After the year we've had, we all have faith in him to do so.

Redden is the first step in the plan to get rich as a free agent next year !
As simmo keeps saying we need guys to go harder for longer and keep putting their head over the ball . Redden has those attributes in spades and just like the rest of our squad his kicking will improve
Much rather have Zorko....next year, not Rich, slower than Hutchings.

Honest question: has their even been an occasion where Terry Wallace has made a big call ahead of time that actually turned out right?

I can honestly say there are few 'serious' football people who's opinion I rate lower then Terry Wallace.
There was that 5 year plan that went well.

Oh wait....

Regarding his apparently impressive stats, as an inside midfielder(?), I'm a bit concerned by his reasonably low goal, inside 50 and goal assist averages. For example, in 2015, Shuey and Priddis averaged more than him (in varying amounts). Hope that this isn't a problem in his game and/or he can improve in these areas.

Look at the teams they played for.

In 2015 Priddis and Shuey both played in a top 4 team, while Redden played in a bottom 4 team. I'd say that being at the Eagles will bring the best out in him.

Mate if you can't trust Terry Wallace talking about non Victorian players on the radio who can you trust really?

There is so much enlightenment coming out of my speakers I can practically smell it. Oh wait that's just my membership card.

Sad to see Jack go, one of my favourites at the lions. Redden had played 112 successive games since making his debut in round 15, 2009. You're getting a durable tackling machine. All the best for 2016 and I hope you're the team to knock Hawthron off their pedestal:thumbsu:

I've been away camping since the grand final with no internet and no newspapers

I get back no we've landed redden

Is he better than our fifth or sixth best midfielder ...probably, so that means as a unit we have improved

We need pace ...I'm really suprised at the Bennell snub ...he's class ...yup he's got issues but who hasn'?

I've seen enough of redden to know he's more than handy and he's durable. We need a Jetta or Yarren

However I don't want to give up Sinclair as I'm not sold on lycett at all.....we need 3 rucks on the list

Glad Selwood is gone and Geelong are in for a suprise when they realaises he's not that good....he's handy but redden is better than Selwood so we've improved

Does anyone know (maybe a lurking Brisbane fan) what Redden's character is like?

Is he ultra professional like Priddis or is he just your average AFL player?

I'm assuming he's not in the McGovern or Wellingham mould.
Very popular amongst the playing group at the lions. Very friendly guy, goes about his business quietly but professionally at the same time.
The one knock on him is he's pretty quiet on the field & lacks onfield leadership. Leppa was tough on him & tried to push him to become more of a leader than what he would've liked. IMO this is one of the reasons he wanted out.

You guys have got yourself a very reliable inside mid who will get the job done every game. He will not become a leader though

Yeah that's fair but we have good leaders like Priddis, Josh Kennedy, Mackenzie when he gets back and probably Luke Shuey. he will be a great strong bull of an inside mid

whats the back story behind redden wanting to come here. i thought he was drafted from adelaide?
No one knows for sure, but I reckon it's a combination of the following
- differences with leppa
- being pushed down the midfield pecking order at the lions (recruitment of beams, robinson, chtistensen)
- money
