I believe it doesn't have to influence another bet. It's stand alone. Besides, he had other bets and not just him kicking the first goal. Perhaps the most damming is backing his side to win.

and Backed us to win and we lost

I'm having trouble to reconcile the fact Jaidyn knowingly risked his career over $36 worth of bets. On reward vs risk alone I just can't understand what he was thinking. I'm shattered. I have no doubt he had zero malicious intention which again makes it all the more baffling in my eyes. I'm just shattered.

You really don’t understand betting do you? The point is all the bets were on himself and the team to do well. If any of the bets were on the opposition team to win you would have a case to be jibbering on about spot fixing. So yes he lines up for goal 3 and he’s doing his best as always to kick it. NOT what you implied earlier that he would be lining up for goal 4 and miss on purpose. You’re out of your depth talking about spot fixing.

Ok.. Let's have a look at the definition again then shall we.

"...(in sport) the action or practice of dishonestly determining the outcome of a specific part of a match or game before it is played."

So in other words, limiting the number of goals a player might kick in order to "determine the outcome of a specific part of a match of game"

This is not about a team winning or losing.. It's about a specific part of the game that DOES NOT impact the result of the match.. like "first goal", "number of possessions", "number of goals".

I think it is you that doesn't understand betting.

Does anybody know how the suspended sentence works?

I'd hate to see him get 12 weeks for a reportable offence for say getting involved in a melee that would otherwise attract a fine..............

I think it be Suspened for Off-Field Issues not On-Field

Think he was just having Fun and a Laugh with Mates

Of course it does. He didn’t bet to make money, he didn’t bet to influence odds or make money for other people. He just made a silly bet because he’s a kid.

The AFL should be ashamed.

I think it relates to him offending again. If he does the suspended sanctions apply. But I'm not 100% sure.

Lucky for him we lost.

As I said, I don't believe he went out to purposefully gain money or influence the game. But, if you put that aside and look at what actually happened, then it's in the domain of fixing (a result). They (AFL) had to sanction him otherwise other players could potentially fix aspects of the game and say it was a silly bet.

I think the fact he was backing his own team was his saving grace.

If he was backing his team to lose r another player to kick the first goal hed be looking at the full 22 weeks

I'm assuming that it relates only to future gambling offences. I hope that's the case anyway.

Rules are rules and betting rules are the easiest to follow.

Dont.

The fact he used a mates account shows that he knew the rules and that he was trying to dodge them.

Its very harsh but corruption through gambling in other sports is a massive issue and the players have to be squeaky clean to ensure thsis sport is not tarnished the same way

I think you've missed the point too. We have absolutely no evidence to suggest he was spot fixing, but you could spot fix on a positive result for the team. He was supposedly betting on other players to kick goals, other players to get a certain number of possessions, the team to win by a certain margin. He could definitely go out of his way to help achieve these things, in a way that is detrimental to the team. He's been investigated, but he's been cleared of doing any of these things. He's been cleared of spot fixing. And been sanctioned for gambling on the footy.

...and can I please re-iterate that i'm not trying to insinuate that he intentionally spot fixed a game.
I am however, replying to the people who deem the bets he made to be categorically not spot fixing and then accusing me of not knowing what i'm talking about.

If he had put a bet on Jordan Degoey to kick the first goal of Queen's B'day, then I tell you what... The AFL may have came to a different conclusion.

No, I’d imagine he’d be looking at life if he was betting against his own team

He bet on himself to kick the first goal. That bet didn’t influence any other bet.

If he bets on himself to kick say... 2 goals and he's lining up for a third and kicks it out on the full.
Every single person who put a bet on him to kick 3 or more is kicking the door down asking for their money back.

It's literally the definition of Spot Fixing.

You're missing the point... We're not debating as to whether we think he deliberately spot fixed. The debate is whether betting on yourself to kick x number of goals etc is spot fixing.

We all agree that he wouldn't have done it with the intention of spot fixing.

Should he do a similar football betting during his career he’ll earn the additional 12 weeks plus whatever else is given as punishment.
I’d imagine this would be any type of bet disallowed by the AFL.
So say he placed $1 on Rance diving in his first game (odds $1.05) his 5 cent profit would likely be another huge fine plus the 12 weeks suspended.

Well there is a very easy way for you to fix that...

But I am glad someone who thinks players betting on their own games is fine doesn’t like me, I’d be worried if people who thought that way did...
Wrong again. I never said it was fine.
Keep trying to be relevant.

But thats such an easy bet

Who would be stupid enough to offer $1.05???:):):):):)

Delist? Surely you’re kidding.
Never ever consider looking for a career in Sports Management.
Never ever consider looking for a career in Sarcasm Management.
I learned my lesson after DeGoey debacle. Any discretion can and should be used as leverage against the player.
Stephenson will be no different.
But I was serious about him being a f****ng idiot
