In his post match interview Sam was as blunt as I've ever heard him when asked about Sic and All Aus. Referred to Stewart last year when queried about games missed.

If he misses this year I will personally crotch punt every AA selector, along with their parents and various relatives

Also pumped up how the team thought his leadership was at its strongest when he was performing so well as an individual.

James Sicily 2023 AA Captain

Has missed four games and still leads the comps for marks taking 10 a game. Intercept marks, marks spreading the create offence. No matter where he takes them he’s hurting you and the boys look for him all the time.
Is third on the overall list still, and is way ahead on a per game average.

Sic absolutely dominates Darcy Moore in just about every key metric this year and yet just about every conversation for AA in the media has Moore as captain and Sic as fringe. Hope yesterday on the big stage changes that.

I'm loving all these pro Sicily articles!

It's going to really put the heat on those All Australian Muppets (sorry selectors) to actually do the right thing for once and pick the great man as CHB in the 22.

Shows that even anti Hawks bias in the media/AFL can't resist the kind of epic performances The Blonde Prince has been displaying this year.

Darcy Moore is one of the most overhyped players in the competition.

There, I said it.

What I find remarkable about Sic is that from the every first game he was played in the backline (2017?) he took to it like a duck to water.

He didn't need time to adjust from being a Forward to a Backman, he just seemed so at home playing across half back straight away.

And because he was good at it immediately every year he has just got better and better and what we are seeing right now is a player at the very peak of his powers for his position (a generational talent as a Backman just like GAJ was for an onballer).

I'm looking forward to Sis' interview after being announced as the AA CHB, I really hope it starts like this:

"Congratulations James, some great performances captaining the up-and-coming Hawks, what did you make of your own performance this year?"

"Um, yeah, good, but not as good as last year"

The less energy he puts into playing, the easier and easier he makes playing AFL look, and the better his output gets.

Across all sports, only the truly, truly great athletes have this attribute.

Some players have to bust a gut to get a stat and dispose of the ball haphazardly.

Sicily just thinks things through on a different plain.

If Newcombe is a low anxiety player, Sic is the no anxiety version.
