My god, what a terrible display we saw from him yesterday.

It is as if he is from Ireland and hasn't seen the game before the lack of awareness and game understanding he shows.

From when he has the ball by himself at centre half back only to standing around for approx. ten seconds only to eventually try to take on a player coming towards him, getting tackled and awarded a free kick against him in one of the most embarrasing holding the ball decisions, to the time he spoils the ball in the collingwood 50 towards the collingwood goal when they had 3 crumbers to 1.

I know people will reply and say "he gives 110%" or "he is so versitile" but lets be honest to ourselves. IT DOESNT MEAN SH!T if he isn't up to AFL standard. I can't see how he could be a solid player in the VFL.

Please Ross Lyon give him the arse!!

Its because he gives 110% and loves the club that I feel bad sticking the boot in by agreeing with you.

His effort is the reason why he's got so much out of himself and maximised his versatility, but he's simply not a good enough footballer when push comes to shove.

i think there wil be considering ross lyon will probably try to bring in a few players that will fill roles he needs in his gameplan

Totally agree about Shwarze ...

Ive been bagging Blake for a while now, and it is totally justified.

He has all the physical attributes to be a great AFL player. Tall, strong, lean, runs well, a huge motor etc (sounds a like like Nick Reiwoldt doesnt it... )

BUT

he has no brains and no skill. He makes wrong decisions constantly, is too slow with the ball and is terrible when disposing of the ball.

He seems to continually get a game because of the job he did on Adam Goodes a few or so ago. He can run all day, its just a shame that he is such a waste of space out there.

i couldn't agree more big ted. usually when i see the ball go to a loose stkilda player on the wing i think excellent, but i would like the see the percentages of times blake has turned this somewhat good situation into and instant turnover. Reminds me of when trent knobel used to get the ball, you knew it was no advantage to us when he kicked it forward

Jason Blake is an indictment on the St Kilda Football Club !

If he doesn't get the arse at season's end there is no way i will be renewing my membership !

You either support the St Kilda Football Club or you don't. If the keeping of one player on the list completely influences your decision about whether to keep your membership or not, then all I can say is don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I can't believe how petty some people are.

unfortunately ... I've got to agree ... Blake is just not up to it... I was a bit surprised that he did keep his spot but Schwarze delisted....

That holding the ball at CHB ..... was just plain embarrassing ...if there is nothing to kick to ... isn't it better to gain 40m+ rather than be caught in their foward 50 ...?

Yeah Jason Blake's career is on the line for the rest of the season. I don't think he's the only one in the team at the moment that isn't up to AFL standard though. There are a number of player's in the side at the moment who i think are playing for the their careers in the last 8 games of the season.

Blake has had some really good performances this year and i have never once not seen him give 110% for StKFC. However, he doesn't have speed and he can't kick and if you don't have those two attributes in the modern game then you are going to struggle.

did any of you tools actually sit in the rain on saturday at the mcg and see for yourself just how bad j.blake, r.clarke, a.fiora really are?? i doubt it!

im so sick of so called 'fans' who sit and watch the matches at home on the tv always defending these incompetent players. its because of clowns like these 3 that we will never win a premiership. j.blake's day on saturday was spent 50% fuking up and 50% with his hands on his head through embarrassment. the bloke obviously knows he's no good so its about time the club came to the same realisation and got rid of him!

i did sit in the rain in the freezing cold freezing my balls off to watch the match and i was up the collingwood cheer squad end, the same end where jason blake got caught holding the ball. i couldnt have been more embarrased as a stkilda fan to have a player of his calibre on our team

I'll deal with all these points in turn:

did any of you tools actually sit in the rain on saturday at the mcg and see for yourself just how bad j.blake, r.clarke, a.fiora really are?? i doubt it!

Firstly, I am not a tool, and secondly, yes, I did sit in the rain, at an away game, after I had just played a game, and watch Jason Blake play poorly, Aaron Fiora play really well (and I am usually a Fiora critic), and Raph Clarke hardly see the ground after half-time.

im so sick of so called 'fans' who sit and watch the matches at home on the tv always defending these incompetent players.

Well then you ain't sick of me because I have attended every St Kilda game in Melbourne this year, and travelled to Brisbane as well.

Well, apart from the misspelling of a swear word (whether intended or unintended), the actual point of the post worth discussing. Blake played poorly, easily his worst game of the season. He suffers because he is not a natural footballer, and size wise he is a "tweener", neither tall or short, so therefore he doesn't seem to have a natural position (Raph Clarke is the same).

On the other hand, I respect his commitment to the cause, highlighted most clearly when he ran with the flight and was clobbered (fairly) by Goldsack. He is always fully committed, and without commitment you don't win a game at all. I think fairer criticism should go to those who have the ability but don't use it.

do you think he should be delisted punter?

Yeah i cant think of where R.Clarke can play. Too slow to play midfield. If you play him fwd or back his pace will also get exploited.

Yeah good point. Blake's commitment can never be questioned. He is a guy who has got the best out of himself...unfortunately i dont think he is good enough. Would another club be interested in him?

Fiora has been much better this season but im still 50/50 on whether he should be kept.

Raph Clarke's career is in the balance. Apparently he wasn't played in the 2nd half because they couldn't get the right match-up for him. At this stage i would cut him at the end of the year....hope he proves me wrong in the last 8 games.

I look at our list, and I would delist other players before Blake (all things being equal, such as contract amount and length). I think this year Andrew Thompson will retire. If he didn't play on Saturday, when do you play him? Brett Voss has probably reached his full potential as a footballer, and is 29 and undersized. Matthew Ferguson cannot get a game, and neither can Shane Birss or Barry Brooks. Matthew Clarke clearly won't be at the club playing next year. Andrew McQualter hasn't developed as we all would have liked. Philip Raymond seems like a bust. Justin Sweeney is a punt that may not have come off.

I've just named nine players. Delist six of them and we have more than enough holes for next year's additions. Do we really need that much of a cleanout, or to just commit ourselves to our post-break gameplan, and get a bit of luck with injuries? Blake stays, although IMO he is not a best 22 selection. Now you have one of the longest answers to what was probably a one-word question. ;)

I think your spot on with all those players except maybe Sweeney. From reports i've heard he plays very well at VFL level and is only 19.

I struggle to see Gehrig commiting to another year and Harvey would have to be close now.

I have no problems with us recommitting to Sweeney for another year. I left Gehrig out because his last couple of games have been pretty good and the gameplan has improved, which will keep him more interested.

And for what it's worth, Robert Harvey can keep playing until he is 97.

Punter, oh captain my captain, you're spot on - with the exception of Sweeney. As for Blake, I totally agree he shouldn't play for the rest of the year - mainly because he's ALWAYS been a filler, and with Hamill, Watts (kicked 5 on Sat for Casey!), Clinton Jones all coming back, there's no room for him. Fiora shouldn't play either, and should be dumped, WAY before Blake. As for Raph, look: the tweenie complaints remind me of when people made the exact same remarks about another Saints player who struggled for a while - Brendan Goddard. NOBODY's saying we should ditch him, are they? Now that Raph's getting fitter, he'll be great.

Once we've culled McQualter, Birss, Brooks, Fiora, and Matthew Clarke, and Gehrig and Thommo have retired, that's all we need. Voss can stay for one more year I reckon.

As for threats by some about ditching your membership, two things: one, the motto of the club is Strength by LOYALTY; and two, well, that's your funeral, because I reckon that based on the promising signs we've seen this year from a first-year coach, and on the promising signs from the review into our fitness regimes, and on the promising signs of our rookies like Jones and Attard, we're going to have a cracker 2008. YOU can be the person who ditched their membership the year their team won the flag.

People on other threads are advocating delisting Raph Clarke. I think he could have a big future at the club, with a back six of Sam Fisher, Matt Maguire, Leigh Fisher, Sam Gilbert & Jason Gram, with Brendan Goddard doing his thing on top of that. If someone else can come in as a tall defender and free up Gilbert to be used more around the ground that would be great. Is that someone James Gwilt? Most people on here would say no.

So far this year only Dal Santo, Fiora, Attard & Blake have played every game. Attard started the season on the rookie list, and very few would have thought Fiora and Blake would have managed this based on performance alone. It says something about what Ross Lyon thinks of them.
