Leigh Montagna has quickly become one of my favourite football media commentators this year. Always worth listening to him.

I feel that if it was a younger player who hadn't dealt with a hamstring injury or someone without a history of them, then that's when the medical staff make the call

I remember Scott's press conference for the match where O'Connor hurt his hamstring and he said that when O'Connor was talking to the doctor/physio that he knew something wasn't right but didn't know what, with a reason being it was his first hamstring injury & thus something he hadn't experienced before. I think it's been suggested O'Connor missed the Essendon match due to hamstring tightness, but we don't know if he was him that withdrew himself or the medical staff making the call for a player who may not be so certain

But as for Cameron, he's played 180 games and it's not his first hamstring injury - would surely expect that he'd understand his body better than the medical staff or the coach, so if asked the question of whether he's right to play or not, then he needs to take responsibility for it

Moreover, he passed the medical! There’s literally nothing the medical staff or coaches can go by other than what the player says. They’d be guessing if they did.

Jeremy IS OUT FOR AT LEAST A MONTH.
If he flagged tightness before the game, considering his history, why play him?
Lloyd adds salt to the wound be saying that he will miss 2 weeks.
In this case the club tries to cover their incompetence.

If he had recurrent tightness he would have been just as likely to strain it at training, or next week. Just let it be, he’ll be back before finals and that’s all that matters.

So let's say it's a small strain (which is what it sounds like, tightened early, tightened again with a cork), that'll probably be 4 weeks to be overly cautious (because there is NO WAY in hell they'll allow him back early just to ping it on the eve of finals), so he'll likely be back to face GWS at home with a couple of games to go before finals, enough to get some match fitness going. It's not the worst result possible.
is there a week off before finals?
---that will help.
He will likely not play before finals.

Because he passed a pre-match fitness test and declared himself fit to play

He's 28yrs old with 180 games under his belt - do you not think he's old enough & experienced enough to know whether or not he's right to play

What we do hope from now on, and it's not too late, is that any time in the future He feels a twinge, He errs on the side of caution. This is a serious hamstring history now.

By all accounts we were extra cautious with his pre-round one injury, and he ended up missing five games. Both Scott and JC said he was ready to play in round 4, and definitely round 5, but we held him back until round 6.

I was there on Friday night and the injury seemed very innocuous. He was kicking the ball 50+ in the warm up, was obviously playing well, and even after feeling for his hamstring in the second quarter he stayed out there for a few minutes before the trainers got him off the ground.

I’d expect it’s a 2-3 week injury but we will keep him out for 4-5, and I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t play until finals. There’s seven games to go….

True that.. somehow, thought only 4 games left. As long as he does not travel interstate anytime before finals, I'll be happy. Travel is a risk factor with recurrent hammies ( and calves). We have 3 consecutive home games actually at home, and would be nice to see him against GWS, but that may be pushing it.

Our last three games are at KP, I’d expect him to return at some point during that block. Definitely wouldn’t be taking him to freezing cold Tassie in round 20, even if he’s right to go by then.

I just added that to my post... great minds...

the problem is thought he has strained the same hamstring now 3 times in a season. The rehabilitation can get a bit more complicated if it is the exact same location the tear keeps occurring over the scar tissue which is naturally weaker than regular muscle tissue.

one would also have to ask the question as to why is he continuously straining his hamstring?? Does he have bodily deficiencies which are placing unnecessary tension and loads through the hamstrings?? The question of deficiencies and problematic areas contributing to the hamstring injury needs to be raised.

On the couch tonight, Gerard said he had changed his training regimen for the previous ten days.

Nup 2 weeks, had the calves head sewn on a couple rooster comb injection and out of there.
Last game was round 13 and didn’t play again until the QF. Had a quiet finals series too. His 2008-09 were much better.

I thought this level of caution would've already been in play before the last game.

The moment he felt tightness the chances of injury were significantly elevated, regardless of any fitness test. This risk, weighed against any benefit to be obtained against Essendon, wasn't worth it.

But what's done is done, and now we have to do it just a little bit harder. Hopefully, as you say, caution plays a more significant role with him going forward.

The evidence suggests not.......
it is also possible to have had the experience and feeling before with a different outcome.

For example ,many patient feel chest pains before an infarction. Some died from it, some have a heart attack and recover, and some had bad gas. All have felt them before usually.

All feel the same kind of things.

There is no magic boxes to tick that equate to the same outcome all the time. Anyone whom thinks that way -and im not suggesting you are - is folly.

GO Catters

I was being a little tongue in cheek. It doesn't always translate.

But you're right, and I agree.
