Could Cameron theoretically re-sign with GWS....which is what both parties don't want....in order to force his trade hand? As GWS are stuffed cap wise as soon as he re-signs which increases their incentive to move him on.

It would be a high risk move but would exert maximum pressure on them as I'm sure there money is already spent. It basically stuffs up their off season.

As GWS have now matched does that mean that JC's contract sits against their theoretical cap until this is resolved?

What I'm getting at is can they trade/sign on new contracts without having to factor in money they've matched? If not then its in our favour to sit on our hands and wait until the end of the trade period.

GWS can't sign him if he doesn't agree

You said the below: 'Ive got pretty good mail that this will get sorted' - that's not an opinion, that's a statement

"Media ran with GWS “intending to match” but there’s been no official statement from GWS.

Said it before, and will say it again. Posturing from GWS but I’ve got pretty good mail that this will get sorted - and sorted quickly. GWS know Cameron is gone - now it’s just about establishing “fair value”.

Cats have been cooking this deal for 2 years. And trust me, the Tim Kelly dealings were about getting the draft hand for Cameron deal. Kelly was always gone. Cameron was always coming.

And make no mistake - the AFL are involved - and were from early on
."

Just admit you were making it up lol, and we'll move on. If you don't have an 'inside line to the footy club', then you can't say 'I've got pretty good mail', lol. The two are directly contradictory

I'm really not sure any of that helps with your argument does it? I think you'll find I posted something about 12 months ago alluding to the Cameron and GFC connection.

I was told 2 years ago that Geelong were focused on getting Cameron as a Hawkins replacement. The person that told me is usually a pretty good source and that's exactly what I said in my post ........... "good mail / or good source". So if someone comes on here and posts that they've got good mail or a good source - well it's exactly that. It doesn't mean you automatically add 2 and 2 and assume that's from some secret spy inside the football club.

Stuff get's leaked all the time by clubs, managers and even the AFL ................ sometimes people hear it and post it on an online forum like this. I really can't see why you wouldn't be able to get your head around that?

If you're of the view that people should only post a thought / or opinion / or "good mail" on here when it can categorically be proven beyond all reasonable doubt as fact, then I think you're missing the point. If the rules on this forum have changed and you can't express opinions then someone better update us.

I think caps don't matter till after Trade Week.

However, if he re-signed they'd be knackered as I'm sure the money is spent.

I think we should offer our first pick to GWS and say take it or leave it. If they don't accept he nominates for the national draft and we likely get him with our first pick anyway. No team is wasting a top 10 pick on a guy being paid big money who doesn't want to be there. With live trading someone might try to hold him to ransom against us on the night but even if they do we'll be able to pick him up for 2x first rounders at absolute worst. No point paying big amounts to GWS when we can get him cheaper via the draft anyway.

No what I'm suggesting is that he accepts to stay with GWS which they clearly don't want not only because of money as it throws all their other plans out the window. He and them both immediately want a trade.

Then immediately the pressure is on GWS to trade their recently signed player to Geelong. It removes the PSD option but it exerts maximum pressure on GWS.

Not sure whether its legal to do that.

If he did, it would have to match the deal we offered, ie 3 or 4 years, not one year. That way we will never get him anyway.

Ah I see what you're getting at - yeah that's interesting. Gut feel is it would be legal, just not common. Would be hilarious!

100% guarantee he wouldn't even know, he will be out fishing somewhere leaving it all for his manager to sort out unless Geelong say "we are out".

I reckon he'd know..... GWS have chosen to throw up a never before used roadblock to deny him an easy passage to his request

From the sound of things, the Higgins trade is basically a foregone conclusion at this point, otherwise a pretty quiet trade period coming up apart from the obvious drama to ensue. On the flipside, GWS have Caldwell, Hately, Hogan and Pruess to get done, on top of the now uncontracted Cameron. Not saying the club should deliberately stall negotiations, and Wells seems to be the type to prefer trades get done ASAP, but I can't see drawn out talks being as concerning to us as it would be to them.

FWIW if the money is the same i wouldn't be surprised if JC stays.
For me i am neither here nor there with it to be honest.
Always thought it was about the cash and i'll stay with my gut feel on that until i'm proved wrong.
Cheers Boys

Yeah agree, i originally thought it was reported he wanted to stay but it was because of money that he decided to look elsewhere, although in saying that I dont know how he could after the deception of lowballing him in the first place, also he would be there for the rest of his career. If its really about lifestyle and not money then he will stick to his word and tell them to gagf!!!
