Geez its a such a waste letting that pick 11 go. Whats to say there was really a player we wanted at 11 on draft night and we live traded 13 and 15 for 11 from GWS because we were really desperate to get that player. And then again later in the night we really want a player at 30 so trade GWS our first round 2021 for pick 30.
In Cameron, 11, 30
Out 13,15,first round 2021

Just an example of how that pick 11 could have helped both clubs get a better trade

Doubt it, they have space for Preuss free'd up, im assuming the Preuss deal wont go ahead until the Cameron debacle is over.

And the funny bit is they need a ruck more than a key forward.

This has us walking away written all over it if that is the case. Its very likely we have said FA or not at all.

Yes will be interesting to see what happens next. Wonder if the next move is Geelong tells the Giants they're out and Cameron tells them his intention is to stay.... would set a cat amongst the pigeons...

Cats can come back later but make them sweat.

Best way to go about it IMO would’ve been for GWS not to match, take the compo (pick 11), and then work out a trade with Geelong on the side, we would’ve been happy to do that. It’s clear to me they want a player from us, or they’re just doing what 17 oppo fans are screaming

“Make Geelong pay”

Sounds like the communication between the clubs has been pretty poor/non-existent. Compared to the Dangerfield scenario, we had a trade already set before it got to this stage. Just when I thought after the Tim Kelly saga the past 2 years, we were in store for a quiet trade period for once... :straining:

Hope so...trade up and try and get him in the draft.

If they have gone it at 900k and expected to get him for nothing then the likelyhood of them wanting to part with $5 million over 5 years plus 2-3 first rounders this year seems extremely low. Cant see it happening to be honest.

We won't walk away from a guy this good. But I wouldn't be surprised if the contract was offered on the proviso we got him for free. The contract offer from Geelong is now irrelevant so I wouldn't be surprised if we drop it back to our initial offer since we'll have to trade for him. Maybe that means he elects to stay at GWS. I doubt it but it's possible.

They have Flynn and Briggs (two B graders) plus Mumford who signed on for one more year. Definitely need a solid ruckman though.
Preuss will be a good pickup for them. Doubt they would need Ratugolea on top of it.

Difference with Sav though is he can also play forward whereas Mumford is almost a cripple and cant do anything.

Bit late now that the compo is off the table, GWS have handled this all very poorly by playing this so publically and spitefully

I won’t be shocked if we walk away and let GWS handle their salary cap issues by sticking with the deal

My concern is the reports that we have been chasing him for years so now that we have a chance to get him wont want to **** it up, I fear we will overpay badly.

The honest truth I don't think value matters, they are trying to manufacture their line in the sand moment. Apparently, they haven't even communicated to Geelong what they would want in a trade which is incredibly dumb if you really want value. Its all to prove a point not to get value IMHO.

I can almost guarantee that if it wasnt us going after him and it was the Suns or something it would be a different story. We are perceived in the footy world as being greedy (by taking players) and having an endless salary cap, everyone wants to see us pay through the nose and suffer
