Absolutely spoiled for talent in the KP stocks.

Given Emac's re-emergence - part of me would love to run the risk of trialling Gov as the second ruck

However - I don't think we can have a side with both Yeo and Emac in the back half - too much of a liability to have 1/3 of your side unable to dispose of the ball efficiently.

Just watched the first quarter again. Jack Darling seemed to have slimmed down and looks fitter. Thats actually pretty good considering our 2nd ruck this season will spend time up forward. But from what i have seen and my recollection from the game, jack played a tad too deep. With a bit less weight and extra mobility, jack needs to push down the ground a bit more this season and have more impact up the ground.

Wellingham looks the good so far. People want us to go with 2 talls this season but IMO we need one of emac or schoefield playing as the second tall IMO. Gov seems like he will play a tad more loser this season and rebound out of defence, so we need another player taking the second tall. It also means that wellingham and shep will be a bit lose. Good sides tend to have a few flankers that not only rebound but also find a bit of the footy and we really lacked a bit of that. We need one of wellers or shep (or both) getting +20 possessions a game and breaking the lines a bit. Schoey seems a bit more mobile than emac but if emac can find form, he can free up barrass to be third man up and intercept the ball or kill the footy. The fact that Gov is mobile means that we can afford emac/barrass or barrass/schoefield.

Max Gawn being a beast /immovable force must be the most overrated thing i have heard. A guys that size should be a force to be rekon with but i have seen him being absolutely pantsed by much smaller players. Last season cripps nudged him and he hit the ground like a sack of potatoes and last week yeo slung him like nothing. Yet the media go on like he is the ****ing hulk and was saying that shuey shouldn't start on him. IMO Shuey could make gawn his bitch.

We can't afford to take Gov out of the backline, we would lose so much drive and cut through zones. He just gives no ****s with his kicks, it's like he has no fear that he'll mess up a kick. Just boots them 40m off the side of his foot, balanced off his back leg, no step

Vish, I love your stream of consciousnsess, and agree with your train of thought. However, I'll have to pull you up on Gov being a tad more of a loser and Wellers and Shep being a lose. Sorry mate, being pedantic, it was a fun read.
Sure it's only vodka with the cranberry? Pretty fast paced, any ice perhaps?:)

Im trying to analyze this game but im a few beers Vodka cranberries too deep.
They seem more comfortable to handball around and through congestion because there was always someone there to receive the pass...well more so than last year. It's another way of saying they seem to be better at the "keepings-off" part of the game than last year with the end result being a more controlled kick to the wing or half forward, if not a persistent chain of attacking handballs.

It'll be interesting to see how it goes against the best midfields. It fell apart here and there (Mitchell, Hutchings and Petrie caught HTB after poor handball decision or execution from a teammate) so there's room for improvement.

Hill fired off a beauty to Wellers at 8:10 left in the third (who then kicked it to Hunt).

I liked Nelson's attack and disposal out of D50. If he keeps that up, and you add Barrass down there, the backline starts to look elite by foot.

On the replay, Redden was still shit. Seriously though it'll be interesting to see if the MC favour Hutchings, who I like but he had a bit of shaky one, or Redden.

Interesting point Eagleshore. I thought we did the handball/handball et al very well latter 2016, especially v Adelaide.
Bulldogs played different, handball, drop in tackle, handball etc but with numbers very close to the ball to maintain position.
Your point about other midfields brought this to mind.

True, but there's been a tweak where more players are willing to attack with the handball - over the past two games (ignoring the game against GWS), the kick to handball ratio averages to 1.12, as compared to our 2016 average of 1.3. It's also the speed of the handballs that, again, across the board seems to have improved.

Maybe it's Mitchell's influence in how they look around contests but I just think we're going to be less predictable this year with a more flexible ball movement from defence and away from stoppages. Hopefully this holds true because we're going to lose a few ruck contests for a while. Still it's only preseason so let's wait 14 days and see.

Massive redden fan but he is at a stage where he needs to displace Hutchings by actually dominating at wafl. I don't meen a couple of 30 disposal games. They guys should get that in his sleep. He needs a few mid 30 possession games while kicking a few. A bit like college's hot form in 2015.

Bloke is very strong for his size. he took a ruck tap after that and won. He also did ok last season against the hawks ruckmen and against jenkins. What pisses me off is that he doesn't tend to use his strength too much in contests or use his body as a ram.

I didnt think Reddan got a run against the Dees.Did he??Barass is a MUCH better decision maker and disposer than Mckenzie. The one area he lacks is physicality in the marking contest. When trying to impact a contest against monsters like Patton you cant go clean at the ball;you must take body and Barass doesnt. He'll learn.Mckenzie with ball in hand worries me.

Redden didn't play against Melbourne. Was on the bench with the kit on but like Barrass was held out.

I don't know if I've ever seen a player like McGovern.

Maybe Dustin Fletcher, but they have such different physiques it's hard to compare them.
