I actually miss Mark Fine. Thats how bad Cornes is.

Rarely get to listen to all of the footy shows on radio but would occasionally catch Fine on the trip home to Bendigo after a night game. I never understood the angst, he seemed okay to me.... for a St Kilda supporter... doing after-match talkback....

Same, I don't mind Finey. Better than most of the muckrakers getting around now.

I miss him.
Always knew his subject.
Did research.
Much better than the vanilla they have now

I may have called him one night after a match (and quite a few beers I would add) to talk about how good we were at recruiting players via the rookie list. It was a time when we had players like Wellingham, O'Brien, Maxy etc. He was friendly & put up with my call, haha

Cornes is a complete and utter clown. How he keeps a job in AFL's media industry has me stumped
The shallow gravers love him.
He's one of them....
His Dad's like their God over there.
They rarely mix with normal people so have no other point of reference.
They will listen intently to anyone who does not try to knock them off in some weird way.

Our boys made the AA squad!

Off only 17 games, shows how dominate he was at his best.

Good to see the youngsters still recognise a champion. (nice t shirt)
Recognise a champion, or wearing a shirt with the name of the academy on it? I’m sure Nick recognizes his dad though!

I reckon we need to throw him in the midfield more against the good teams becuase he doesn't get involved enough up forward.

JDG needs to work on his consistency.
He is either tearing games apart or almost invisible.
He needs to turn those almost invisible games into "solid contributor"
Have a look at his votes on the Didaka medal as an example.
He is either B.O.G or no votes. (one 4 and on 3 I think the rest all 5 votes)

Depends where he's playing, and if forward, delivery dependant.

Its amazing how players are perceived to be inconsistent when they are, as Jack Dyer used to say, where the ball aint.
Playing forward is so much harder to play these days than it used to be with the zone defences. I get really frustrated when he is stuck forward and the ball is not getting to him. If there is one thing that we should do more is rotate our forwards through the mids more, especially De Goey. When our mids tired in the last quarter he could have made a big impact there. Its where i get frustrated with out coaching panel rather than our players.

Agree. Should have moved Treloar forward and De Goey into the guts in the last.

I think we're probably a season too early to be looking at that too often. JT the only 1 with a tank to do it more regularly. JDG will get more time next year and I think we'll see Stephenson getting more time on a wing in 2019.

On the flip side, Treloar and Sidey are the only 2 mids who've shown they can impact consistently playing forward this year and they probably impact the game more when on high midfield rotations.

Fair enough i agree with most of that, but JDG was doing nothing up forward and Treloar was way underdone. He might have had a lot more impact up forward on Sat just for this game. Given we fell away it was worth trying

Spot on. In retrospect the moment was when Adams went off. De Goey should have been switched into the middle then. With Adams intensity gone and Pendles and Treloar not quite right we got towelled and it cost us the game. I can' help but think Sidebottom, De Goey and one of Sier/Treloar/Pendles may have held the tide. May have even got De Goey to sit on Yeo to curb his influence. All easy to say in retrospect of course.

Yeah I miss Finey also, that Jack what’s his name at 7 is bland as..
Bout as vanilla as Jack Madgen....
Finey spoke with a passion, now sadly lacking on SEN.

Yeah, I'm not convinced and I'm certainly not averse to JDG spending more time on-ball. Just doubt it would have been a difference maker.

Treloar relies heavily on his burst power and acceleration whether he's playing midfield or forward. That was clearly lacking from him Saturday night so I doubt he'd have had much impact forward either.

Maybe JDG into the midfield when Adams went off injured for that 7-8 minutes. Might have helped balance the CL's. He appeared from the television coverage to be working into the defence late in the game anyway.

For me the biggest issue on Saturday night was our lack of clean hands and sure footedness. Players largely work on assumptions. They're drilled about "what next". Players fumbling or loosing their feet (eg: Mayne, Varcoe and Phillips scenarios) always throws that out meaning players get caught out of position.

If he has a big three weeks coming up, we can win the flag! He's certainly due.

This, in retrospect is spot on.
