The 3 weeks mentioned is based on the notion that this is the starting point (for penalty) for any action that gets sent directly to the MRO. The MRO may deem more or less, depending on arguments. One thing's for sure, this will be trial by media at its finest!
If the charge of careless high severe is found, then 3 will be the minimum. Whilst the Tribunal isn't beholden to the matrix in the guidelines, they still go with it. Only way he gets less is if one of the elements gets downgraded. And that is sadly an impossibility.

Based on the hit on Prestia last year, I think 3 would be fair. That was worse and got 4, and I think they got it down to 3 on appeal. I'd be ok with 3 here (well not ok with it - don't want to lose JDG!!), but I think 3 is fair.
I hope he puts in a bit of a preseason and comes back raring to go, no matter how many weeks. Given we have a BYE among it too, it's an extra week without playing.

Careless would be the best possible outcome. Could still get more though than 3 I reckon. Doesn’t matter how anyone tries to spin it he got a player in the head and he went off concussed. They aren’t going to like that at all.

I mean...we assume that and yet Cripps got off

I think 3 is fair but if the AFL is fair dinkum about protecting the head they already missed the boat when Murphy was knocked out off the ball. No one in the media was saying anything about coward shot etc. I really feel that they may try to make an example because of the name.
Who really knows anymore with the tribunal.

He got off on a legal technicality in the report or something. What a snapshot of Carltons existence. Do the wrong thing, whinge until you find the dodgey, morally bankrupt way of beating the system
Then lose on the field anyway.

I'm just going to pretend that he did his hammy and is out for 4 weeks. The media hysteria is out of this world 🌎
Nah. He's suspended. Suspended is better. Zero training restrictions. He'll come back in better shape than he was - and he was in fantastic shape.

Looking very carefully again at the video this morning, I believe the young, inexperienced Eagles player actually contributed inadvertently to the collision.
Hewett had the option of two, perhaps three, available Eagles players to handball to. One was on his right, which was across the trajectory of the incoming JDG, or there was one to his left calling for the ball, which was away from from the incoming JDG and also the close pack of Pies defenders.

JDG would've logically and instinctively be expecting him to handball to the left and away from him. When the Eagles player didn't take the expected option, but instead turned inwards towards JDG to handball across him, he naturally went into self-protection mode by turning his own body side on to the upcoming collision.

Not expecting this to exonerate Jordy at all, but if Collingwood representation has any fibre, they would present this perspective to the tribunal and maybe get his penalty reduced?

At the very least, I hope the Collingwood staff are showing this aspect to Jordy, so that he can take some of the blame off himself for causing injury to an opposition player. This could well be important for Jordy's mind set going forward and playing with confidence when he returns.

I think you’ve summed the events well and put both player’s actions into context. It’s a shame those calling JDG a coward and idiot don’t seem able to see it the same way. He’ll cop his suspension and it’s right that we are trying to protect players from concussions. Hope WC kid is ok and I’m certain the club will support Jordy in dealing with the consequences.
