A good deal sanctimonious commentary in the media by former footballers who would have us believed that they never bumped a player.

My initial reaction was that it wasn't too bad but I can see that when you slow the action down the ball had gone and some contact with the head occurred.
In real time De Goey had committed to the bump before the ball was released. There was no raised arm, high contact is the real issue.

The AFL needs to decide - is the bump still allowed or is it out? Putting the onus entirely on the player for what is now a problematic tactic is unfair.

When you run you lift up your foot otherwise you can't run. A raised foot in slow motion looks like a jump. He didn't jump ffs

Correct, in fact running by definition involves a “flight phase” where for a time neither foot is on the ground… otherwise it’s walking.

JDG's action was executed in a matter of seconds and centimetres in a fast moving contest. Maybe he could have adjusted his action slightly but those calling for his head should seek a new calling.
He wasn’t head hunting. Never been a sniper on the field either. Hit head. Made a mistake. A bad one at that. He’ll cop his penance but nowhere near the linch mobbing that most are suggesting.

Agree, it was a mistake that happened in the spur of the moment. Cop the whack and move on. Too much headline grabbing speculation all around. Damien Barret on Access All Areas pretty much said the same.

Jordan will cop his penalty for this, but the media hysteria is out of control. To be saying coward act or bashed etc is simply not on!
He performed a football act that if you don’t get 100%right these days you pay the price, but for the media to carry on like it was a deliberate coward act is simply pathetic.
If this was a lesser name there is no way the media would be witch hunting like this.

This was by far a worse action and yet only received a 2 week ban.

Why? Because Smith wasn't concussed?

Memo to the AFL.

That Smith wasn't concussed had nothing to do with Pickett and everything to do with dumb luck.

You forget the Collingwood tax so it will probably be 4
