It would be good if the club came out and either confirmed or denied what Brown says.

This is playing out in the media just like every single other one of these ‘go for the brass ring and fail’ over the last ten years.

We will be made to look a fool again if he doesn’t come and this story is what is believed, even if it is not true.
i dunno, if a bunch of dickheads are calling us fools then it doesn't hit that hard

Why would the club do this? The current administration has zero leaks and it’s great.

Why would we look like fools because people believe Tom Browne, Caro, Dildo? I honestly don’t understand why anyone consumes their garbage.

Probably because they were collaboratively involved in shit canning us for the past year (add Cornes to the list). It would be good to throw it in there faces by demanding some accountability.

Because, as you said, people consume and believe their crap.

I understand peoples frustration however, the worst thing we could do is response and thereby giving credence these types of reports.

Between now and trade period we will be linked to many many rumours.

You respond to one and its a slippery slope.

I've heard three versions of this rumour - which one do you respond too?

We don't want to be involved in any way in this public discussion about trades - steer clear. Its lose - lose.

Trade rumours are core AFL business - who cares anyway.

Three players in the AFL average 25 disposals and a goal per game in 2021.

Martin, Danger and Fyfe are not one of the 3.

It is not about the number of disposals or how many goals you get, it is about who has the class to win clutch games, perform in big games. Carey was a prodigious goal scorer, but if he was average, but still turned it on to win games he would still have been one of the greats, his ability to score heavily just elevated him to one of the all time greats.

Richmond basically has 3 flags because of Martin. If they swapped Martin for Kelly they probably would have none. That is what makes them in a different category imo. Kelly is a very good player, but he isn't a marquee grade player imo. That is fine, most players aren't and you don't really need one if your team and game plan doesn't need one. But he shouldn't have the marquee level of billing or hype if he isn't that type of player.

I get what you’re saying. It has logic. However consider the following:

Kelly pretty much got GWS to a draw against us almost singlehandedly. If he wasn’t playing we win that game without any doubt IMO. So it’s not quite true he’s not capable of being the difference. He just does it in more of a Danger style than Dusty style.

Secondly, think what this kind of signing would do to our image, membership and ability to attract other top free agents going forward.

And finally, who is to say 1.1mil is true or not for the entire term of the contract.

Yeah, he is a good player. We are going to win the spoon, we are playing a lot of kids, he should stand out.

The fact they have Kelly, Greene, Taranto, Hopper, Whitfield, Ward, etc and not only should have got done by the wooden spoon team, but they are languishing in 10th spot so that wasn't just an aberration, I think also says something.

Secondly, think what this kind of signing would do to our image, membership and ability to attract other top free agents going forward.

Brisbane was a joke that couldn't hold players let alone attract them, people started to want to go there when they addressed their problems. I think our image was bad for a long time because we didn't look like we were going anywhere. Seeing guys like Thomas, LDU, McKay, etc who are going to be there a long time play to their potential, having a coach play a style of football that looks like it might go somewhere I think is more important than luring someone on massive overs. You don't want to push the expectation you can ask for overs to come to us.

And finally, who is to say 1.1mil is true or not for the entire term of the contract.

Who knows, they might have made that up... although Kelly's manager has history in terms of leaking the money we offered to him last time to the media to build up expectation. He is doing what is in his client's best interest and airing offers made to him seems to have worked to date.

Again, I don't think the value of his contract is a major issue because we have space in our TPP and a lack of mature players to carry contracts forward. The issue will be if he doesn't perform then players on the rise who have break out years will look at what he is getting paid and looking at the offers being made to him. Do we think Brown was motivated at all by the kind of money we were dishing out to Polec and were throwing at others when he was our main goal kicker for quite a bit of time?

He had a legitimate reason to ask for what Polec was being offered, he was playing in the reserves and Brown was carrying our forward line.

I like Kelly and I think as a player he would be a great get. But how it happens and how much we pay could be significant down the road.

Are you saying we should not recruit big name players on big money contracts just in case they dont perform and it up sets other players. How are we suppose to improve if we dont take these type of risks. The draft alone wont do it. Sure it might not pan out but the risk is worth the reward if it does.

So unless it’s the greatest ever big time performer (Dusty) or the greatest player ever (Carey) you ain’t interested!?
Kelly is a freak… if he is over his injury concerns which it looks like he is, than he is a top 5-10 player.
Considering the type of midfield we have & are building, he is the perfect fit IMO.

Does that mean Richmond were wrong to pay up for Lynch or Hawthorn stuffed up poaching Frawley?

I honestly have no idea how anyone could possibly not want Josh. The dude is a freaking star, he oozes class, he is a leader, a hard worker... he plays the game the right way... and immediately makes us way better.
Imagine bringing him and Horne into the squad in one offseason!!! Do what ever it takes, pay the man, make it happen.
