Strong QBs and best TE. RB depth is a bit thin, edge probably the only standout performer, others a bit shaky. Your starting WR are both top 10 performers, beyond that you don't have much.

Who else could you have chosen for RB position and WR (after Chambers)?

appreciate any help, im so learning this caper its not funny.

Didn't do to bad.

Based on those available at a particular pick, I would have drafted these guys:

Edgerrin James
Steve Smith
Marvin Harrison
Kevin Jones
Donovan McNabb
Deuce McAllister
Jake Delhomme
Laurence Maroney
Chris Cooley
Deon Branch
Panthers Def
Michael Clayton
Mike Vanderjadt
Aaron Brooks
Antonio Bryant
Dallas Clark

This would have given you:

McNabb, Delhomme, Brooks
(Two top tier QBs, and Brooks is a good reserve to have, he could be a big flop or a big sleeper this season)

Edge, Jones, Deuce, Maroney
(Edge and Jones are star quality, Maroney is a rookie who may do something. Deuce is handy. You may have been able to trade up with a WR)

Smith, Harrison, Branch, Clayton, Bryant
(Smith and Harrison are both top 5 WRs, Branch and Clayton are great pick ups that late)

Cooley, Clark
(Two solid TEs)

Vanderjadt
(Will give you close to top scores for K – all you need)

Panthers Def
(Second only to Chicago in my opinion)

thanks for that, i think i better keep studying.

real draft on sunday night.

8 team league so i think strategy changes a little.
2 RB, 2WR and a flex RB/WR

thinking of going with my first 5 picks.

1-RB-larry johnson
16-RB-best RB on board - hoping lamont, williams, portis, brown slide
17-WR-best available, hoping smith, fitz, owens, holt
32-RB-best available, hoping drougns, chester, jones
33-RB-if no decent RB, will hopefully get chambers.

cheers again:thumbsu:

That's a very good team. People underestimate how big an advantage having Gates is. He is a huge upgrade on the other TE's in the league which means you have an immediate edge going into each matchup.

For a begginer i'd suggest you try to ensure you get 2 v.good RB's. Your rb's all have question marks. Don't draft Edgerrin before Sjax or Rudi.

Re: just completed my first mock draft-did i do any good.... HELP

You definitely waited too long to solidify your backs. And I think you went too early on Def and Kickers.....unless you are trying to get the very elite, it is not worth passing on skill positions.

Not to mention that the correlation of good performance in one year to the next in these areas is lower than you think....just because they were strong one year doesnt mean they will be in the next.

In fact, I'd seriously consider starting to get extra RBs before you fill out your starting WRs, thats how precious they are.

If you get Tomlinson or Alexander, make sure you get their handcuffs, Turner/Morris.

If you go for Johnson, not sure if his backup (Bennett) is going to have the same success....up to you on that one.

But overall, good job for a 1st try.

Side note - Team Silverstein was clearly not there or not trying....Portis followed by D Davis is an absolute tragedy!

if i take LT-SA, take his back up in the later rounds. like very late.

leave defense and kicker to last and second last picks. :thumbsu:

im trying to work out the best strategy with an 8 team league.

all the mocks i have done have been 10 team, which distorts the facts a little as to what is actually gunna happen on sunday night.

this was my second effort.

QB-bledsoe, mcnair
RB-portis, james, lewis, c.taylor, lundy, jones
WR-fitzgerald, walker, evans, stallworth, porter
TE-gates

numbers in red represent what my draft picks will be sunday night in an 8 team league.

Don't draft Edgerrin before Sjax or Rudi.

gunna be interesting to see what is left with my second and thrid picks 16&17.

hopefully people go crazy and leave me a gun running back. although i doubt it seeing as they have all been playing NFL fantasy for years.

thanks again for everyones help, as u can see i need every bit of help i can get.:p

Re: just completed my first mock draft-did i do any good.... HELP

Re: just completed my first mock draft-did i do any good.... HELP

Gathering RBs is a good strategy.
Gathering too many RBs is not.

You'll find you're too deficient in other areas, and just because you have trade bait, doesnt mean you can get value from other owners. In fact, if you go RBx5, they may purposely not trade with you to let you suffer.

Careful with Portis. An injury like that is a concern to a player that is going to have contact 90% of the plays he is involved with.

As for the 8 team strategy, it comes down to scarcity;

8 starting QB's representing 25% of all starting QB's. (8/32)
16-24 (2 or 3 per team) starting RB's representing 50-75% of all starting RB's
16-24 starting WR's representing 25-37.5% of all starting WR's (64 starters)
8 starting TE's representing 25% of all starting TE's.

Clearly, RB is the scarcest resource, so you need to go hard in that area. Wrs are next most important, then QB/TE.

At the end of the day, what you need to remember at each pick is this; if I am deciding between a RB or a WR, if you go RB, what is the drop off to the WR you will get at the next pick, and vice-versa.

Also remember (it seems like you have an early pick) that you will have a long wait between your picks, so if there is a "run" on a particular position, it could go from untouched to ravaged very quickly.

Everyone has an opinion I guess. thats what makes the game...

Someone like Kevin Jones who is the No.1 starter without a doubt and is a proven performer (although hasnt strung a big season together yet... only been around a little while) went at pick 36

I see names like Dillon, Bush, C.Taylor!, L.Jordan, D.Davis and B.Westbrook before him.... not smart picks in my eyes. This guys have so many question marks its not funny... So its hard to knock back the following names...

I think Stephen Jackson, Kevin Jones, Julius Jones... are backs you pick up after the main 5... and before that kind of bunch.

Couldn't agree more. I can't believe how low some fantasy owners let Kevin Jones drop, especially considering the huge focus Martz will put on the run this year.

I may have average QBs, but I am happy bout the RBs i managed to grab in my fantasy league:

- T.Barber
- S.Jackson
- K.Jones
- F.Gore
- D.Williams

(Shame I'll have to bench one)

Re: just completed my first mock draft-did i do any good.... HELP

i always start by picking a couple of RB's... Ended up with Larry Johnson, Frank Gore (who will surpirise his year) & Lawrence Maroney. Always feel that you can always pick decent WR's later down the track. I was lucky to pick Fitzgerald, Coles & Houshmandzedah..

I actually feel QB is one of the most overated spots in fantasy, unless its Peyton,so i am quite happy with Phillip Rivers.

Agreed with the previous people, Defense/special teams are needed further up the list at times..I got the Bears and the mighty Skins, so D is looking strong for me

Questions

1. Cooley has been a massive dissapointment. Actually traded him away last week for Davis from the 49ers and had to get him back after V.Davis injury.
Do i target a GUN TE to improve my team. Maybe Gates-Heap-Crumpler

2. Pennington a real sell high candidate, maybe package him with duece and see what i can get.

3. What players should i be targeting in trade

4. Who are the players that are should be cheap at the moment ???

ANY SUGGESTIONS MUCH APPRECIATED, ITS BACK TO THE EXPERTS FOR A LITTLE HELP.......:thumbsu:

currently working on getting gates.

how much shoudl i pay, he is interested in housh-smith-westbrook from my side.
he already offered : Gates and RUDI 4 LJ and Housh , turned him down.

Re: just completed my first mock draft-did i do any good.... HELP

Nice team!

You have the ammunition to build a perfect team if you play your cards right. Here is who i'd be targetting:

1.Marques Colston-Forget about Gates. He was probably drafted within the first 3 rounds of your draft and thus he will be expensive to get. It won't be worth it since he is unlikely to repeat last yrs numbers since SD are very much limiting Philip Rivers in the passing game. Colston actually plays WR for New Orleans however he is listed as a TE in Yahoo fantasy (since he played TE in college). Thus he is MASSIVE value. The guy that has him probably picked him up off waivers so whilst you would still have to pay quite a bit for him it shouldn't be anywhere near Gates' price. Colston should get something like 900 yards + 6-7TDs this yr. That would put him right with Gates and co.

2. I'd be targetting Peyton Manning heavily. Mcnabb is the other option but you also have Westbrook and I dislike having guys from the same team in my starting lineup. Give up what you have to get Manning. Hopefully the guy that has Peyton is weak at WR or RB and you can help him out by offering him a blockbuster.

3. See if you can get Baltimore defense.

If you get those 2 players + Baltimore, your team would be virtually flawless.
