Being at a loose end I thought I would apply 3-2-1 to the MVP votes as per the Brownlow.

On the 5-4-3-2-1 format Miers leads from Stewart, Dangerfield, Cameron and Holmes.

Under 3-2-1 see the following.

Round 1 v St Kilda 3 Votes: Dangerfield.....2 Votes: Dempsey.....1 Vote: Bruhn

Round 2 v Crows 3 Votes: Stewart.........2 Votes: Miers...........1 Vote: Blicavs

Round 3 v Hawks 3 Votes: Bruhn...........2 Votes: Duncan........1 Vote Parfitt

Round 4 v Dogs 3 Votes: Miers..............2 Votes: Stengle.........1 Vote Cameron

Round 5 v North 3 Votes: Cameron..........2 Votes: Close...........1 Vote Holmes

So tally to date.....after Round 5.....

5 Miers
4 Bruhn
4 Cameron
3 Dangerfield
3 Stewart
2 Duncan
2 Dempsey
2 Stengle
2 Close
1 Holmes
1 Parfitt
1 Blicavs

Might repeat the exercise after Round 10 if time allows.

Battlepony is not going to be happy about this. Look at Bruhn.

They're all top 5 with Dangerfield, who was very good when he played.

So we are accurate with all players except for Bruhn?
In the past, absolutely.

He was getting votes willy-nilly for 13 possession games last year.

But he is looking good this year for sure... as good as Miers and Stewart? Not for mine.

All you are doing is showing the strength of a 1-5 voting system as opposed to a 1-3, as it addresses the "flaw" you have noted. After the players you mentioned Bruhn would be in the next group.

Last season in the last 10 games Bruhn did improve and outside of a few everyone else sucked. It's not surprising that he popped up here and there.

Remember, these are club votes. People weren't saying he was in the top 5 players on the ground.

I'm happy to give him credit.

Whatever he was doing in the latter half of last year, he seems to have improved plenty on that to my eye.

Time to really take the next step again and give us some really good 4 quarter games.

Agreed. First half of 2023 was poor but I didn't expect much early on. Second half absolutely improved on that a good amount. So far this year there's been another step up, while still leaving plenty to go.

For a guy about to turn 22 that kind of incremental improvement is all you can ask for. I really don't count his sporadic forward flank appearances for GWS as a significant contributor to his development - outside of his body maturing.

Bruhn was not getting votes "will-nilly" last year.

He was getting votes for lacing them up in some games for sure.

I saw him get votes for 6 and 7 effective touch games.

People were being nice with our new young kid... This year he is earning it more imo.
Your statement only has any validity at all if you can cite examples where Bruhn received significant votes, and which players should have received them instead.

We are a very low disposal team and especially were last year (Stewart and Duncan the only two exceptions), Dangerfield was broken for over half the year and Cameron faded badly after round 8, Guthrie was absent and Bruhn broke 18 disposals on 9 occassions. In a disaster year, it is not odd at all that some of these performances were in our best 5 players.

Do you actually post MVP votes, by the way? Very easy to make generic statements about who is unworthy from the sidelines.

I really respect the work you do with the MVP tallying.

I was wondering if you still have the full list of player rankings from season 2023? I see the post was edited to just keep the top 5, I assume for space purposes.

I'm interested in giving it a look.

I kept all voting 2023 data...until last week....:{.....I didnt think it would be relevant any longer and i didnt want a pile of data for others to troll through. Sorry MM...

It's all good.

I was obviously interested in Bruhn, who was poor during the first half of the season and then improved a lot as the year went on.

Given his near-constant availability in an absolute disaster injury year for the team, it wouldn't surprise me if that back half of the year did see his standing increase a bit. After our top 6 or so it probably became "warm body" territory and I imagine these are the types of votes Bridgey is mocking.

There are some voters who give Tom Stewart votes, as an example, when, quite frankly, he has had an uninspiring performance..

These anomalies aren't applicable only to Tanner Bruhn and in the long run, have little impact on the final outcome.

Your contention that voters favour the young kids has some substance, SDK for example got votes early on, but rarely picks up votes these days. No doubt, to a degree, Bruhn was favoured early on but that bias has largely disappeared now...as per the SDK example.

Again..I expect.little impact on the end result at season's end.
