Rhett's fears confirmed

Fears Adelaide ruckman Rhett Biglands needs a knee reconstruction were confirmed on Wednesday morning by his specialist.

Biglands, who hurt his left knee early in Saturday’s preliminary final loss to West Coast, will tonight have surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He also has some cartilage damage and a sprain of the medial ligament.

It is likely Biglands will require a 12-month rehabilitation and therefore will not play in the 2007 season.

Crows football operations general manager John Reid said: “It is extremely disappointing news for Rhett and the club. However, that’s the reality and we will need to manage our list accordingly.”

Biglands, 29, has played 134 AFL games for Adelaide.

Nice to see the footy gods continuing to smile on the Crows!!!!

That's a shame, I like the big guy.

My all time favourite Tribunial quote came from Biglands after he'd crashed an elbow into Graham Polak trying to spin out a pack -

"I wanted to palm him off and spin out of of the pack ala Andrew McLeod but my ambition far out weighed my ability" :D

Always earnt points from me for that.

I was certain he had wrecked his knee when it happened but had heard it was only a 6-8 medial injury? It's a real shame for the bloke and a blow for the Crows, he's a good quality player.

Ben Hudson has been playing in the SANFL for the last month or so and has had some good performances. He will be back for the Crows next year. Tragic for Biglands though.

Michael Gardiner is only a state away if you want to give him a call...

Funny you say that. Graham Cornes on 5AA has just mentioned that Neil Craig is in Melbourne speaking to Gardiner today.

Ben Hudson #1 ruckman (33 games experience)
Ivan Maric #2 ruckman (only 8 games experience)
John Meesen #3 - young developer (0 games experience)

There is a huge amount of potential in that ruck division, but a lot of inexperience and not much depth - if one of them were to get seriously injured, it would leave the Crows ruck divison struggling big time.

Clarke can't play on another year. His body will give up sooner or later, and although his tapwork was good in '06, he struggled around the ground. Hitout average was down too.

If gardiner was going to be in melbourne shouldn't Pagan have waited. He could have saved the plane ticket to WA to visit him.

They took the hard center thing out of the ground after Rehn was hurt. But they still have a problem in Adelaide with ruckmen hurting their knees. Primus, Hudson, Rhett, Lade.

John Reid just on radio confirming that Craig was not in Melbourne talking to Gardiner, in fact, he'd just walked out of his office.

I imagine the Spider Everitt/Clark Keating/<insert washed up ruckman here> to Adelaide rumours should start as of tomorrow ...

Lade hasn't had a knee injury
